  1. i still think this lineup becomes much better with cedeno in it.
  2. You see the 14 inning extravaganza? Lee had one that would have made it to the third row of the bleachers if it weren't for the fact that the wind was blowing in quite strongly. He'll be fine. i trust your baseball knowledge, but i'm still going to worry until he starts hitting them with regularity.
  3. You mean like the power he didn't have last September when he had 4 HR's in 44 AB's? no, i mean the 0 HR's he has in his last 76 plate appearances. it's time to worry. I see no more reason to worry about Lee than Soriano. Lee showed a lot of power when he came back last year, and if not for the wind blowing in earlier in the month, he would have had 2-3 homers already this season. i haven't seen him come close yet. one to the shallow warning track. not going to get it done. You must have missed the series against SD. no, that was the series that he hit his one warning track ball.
  4. i wouldn't say that. if he doesn't have his power, the lineup becomes less formidable. that's a huge worry.

Ryan Howard has hit 1 this year. I guess we should worry about him too. Lee will be fine. I don't think he is going to hit 40, but he will hit enough. ryan howard isn't coming back from a major wrist injury that impairs it's flexibility.

  8. when he starts hitting home runs will you finally zip it? what? of course. the whole reason behind my harping on his lack of power is his lack of power.
  9. maybe lee can get one out today if he gets one up in the wind. or maybe he doen't even have enough power left to do that.
  10. yep, but oit's long gone now, instead he throws a great "nothing ball".
  11. edmonds with his 30th home run in like 50 plate appearances at wrigley.
  12. we have to understand that wood and prior became very successful with their mechanics as they developed into major league pitchers. changing their mechanics would be starting their careers all over again, it would take too much time, and we have no idea if they'd even be effective.
  13. Yah, he has Phd in Kinesioloygy (the physics/mechanics of human motion) from Marshall as well as being a former major league pitcher, Cy Young Winner, and All Star. Truly an "idiot." He'd have every pitcher in the majors throwing in the 80s at most, if he had his way. Degree or not, doesn't mean anything. I've met plenty of idiots with degrees. Former Cy Young? Doesn't mean anything. Ever see an HOF hitter suck as a hitting coach? Marshall didn't win the Cy Young because of his mechanics. He got it because he knew how to change speeds and keep hitters off balance. It's not like there's alot of teams beating down his door for his services as a pitching coach, which would certainly make him more money than selling those videos he's peddling. mike marshall is a quack. he reminds me of Dr. Nick Riviera. i've heard horro stories of promising young pitchers going to work with marshall and then instantly becoming worthless soft-tossers. his methods worked for him, but, to my knowledge, they haven't worked for anyone else.
  14. you have kind of answered your first paragraph with your second. i think philly led the league in runners LOB last season, as usually a team that gets so many people on base does. they'll score way more runs than we do this season, no doubt. we WANT to be atop the league in LOB, that's a good thing. timely hitting means something now, but it won't at the end of the year, as you've hinted. i don't think we need to lead the league in OBP, either, i'd settle for leading the league in ERA, that would assure us of a division title. or else, it would assure a non-cub team. this team might find a way to have a series of never-before-seen phenomena happen to them on their way to missing the playoffs.
  15. I'm pretty sure we make the same amount of outs as everybody else! (I understand what you are saying) it's the rate at which you make outs. sorry. :)
  16. i don't get what you're trying to say. not making outs is very good for scoring opportunities. we still make a lot of them. I edited it, and still I think i'm quite clear. Hitting + Walking = OBP, and SLG + OBP = Runs. okay, right on.
  17. we always hit for a decent average under dusty baker, too. and this is generally how it worked out for us: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/stats/aggregate?statType=batting&group=8&seasonType=2&type=reg&sort=runs&split=0&season=2007

  19. philosophy? yes. results, not really. but they should be faring better than they are now. that is if lou is really committed to improving the amount of non-outs this team makes. the cubs simply will not win without taking a few more walks.
  20. ....same as the old boss. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/stats/aggregate?statType=batting&group=8&seasonType=2&type=exp1&sort=walks&split=0&season=2007
  21. he was asking too much. the truth is, despite jones' numbers last season, there aren't a lot of modern GM's in the market for an undisciplined hitter.
  22. he earned his spot in spring training. it's stupid to just give up on the kid after you put him on the 25-man.
  23. i used to think that ronny had no place on this team, especially when hendry all but said it would be a cold day in hell before ronny made the team out of sproing training. i figured cedeno had seen his last days with the cubs. that all changed in spring training, he made adjustments and played very well. i'm excited about cedeno, he has a lot of talent, he just needs to continue to work on his plate dicipline and pitch recognition.
