  1. or they think newton is going to sell tickets, or they're not an organization that should be respected b/c they're [expletive] terrible at this. how much carolina football did you watch (note: I watched very little, but I watched every snap of Clausen's cfb career and thought he was best served going somewhere that would give him a chance to develop for a few years behind a decent QB - he definitely needed to get bigger and stronger to handle the NFL). come on, in this world of fantasy football and sunday ticket and drinking heavily on sundays at sports bars, everyone watches everyone nowadays. i saw plenty of clausen, although i wish i hadn't. it was an honest question. It wasn't a Joe Morgan "i watch the games" statement. I just wanted some frame of reference b/c I couldn't think of any reason anyone but andy would have watched any Panther games (unless the opponent was your favorite team). I think you're just blowing smoke, but whatever. there's no reason to ruin this thread for everyone else. i can't give you a number of exact panther games i watched last year.
  2. that fairley pick scares the hell out of me.
  3. The Panthers also thought Jake Delhomme was a starting QB for a number of years that he wasn't. They have a history of misevaluating QBs. Making a concrete decision on a rookie after one year in which he had no talent around him is overreacting. You may end up being right, but you're still jumping the gun on your evaluation. One year shouldn't make or break any player who has displayed the tools to be successful. if he had shown ANYTHING, ANYTHING, i would agree with you. but you start to look for a sign that a kid is a football player at some point, and when it doesn't come, you have to draw some conclusions. like i said, when you play amidst people with no talent and you show nothing, who can you really blame for having no talent?

  5. i just had a dr. hibbert laugh.
  6. oh, i'm not saying that they should have panicked and went with newton over a more talented player on the defensive side of the ball. i'm just saying that they will never be good as long as clausen is starting for them.
  7. and i had no feelings whatever about clausen beforehand, i'm simply telling you that he showed nothing, nothing, last year that would lead me to believe that he will do anything in professional football. obviously, the panthers feel similarly after getting a year of him up close and personal.
  8. He did have a career pre-2010 keep in mind. He's got all the physical tools and my opinion of what he could be was formed before his one poor NFL season with terrible talent around him. It's overreacting to ignore an entire college career and draft workouts over that one season - unless you felt that way about Clausen beforehand and then I'd have to ask why you felt that way. lots of guys are great in college and then can't tie their shoes in the NFL. clausen is one of those guys, he just isn't an NFL football player. you keep mentioning a lack of talent around him and i keep telling you that a lack of talent around you is no excuse to be a part of that lack of talent.
  9. for the record, i hate JJ Watt to Houston and then changed it.
  10. on a related note, have any of you jerks gotten one pick right so far in the mock draft thread?
  11. good quarterbacks can make at least a few plays with substandard NFL players. It's harder for pocket passers to make plays with substandard talent than more mobile QBs. That can be a defense of Clausen and a reason to favor Newton. There's also room between what Clausen is now (not very good) and what he can become (solid to very good). Giving up on a QB after one year when you invested a high pick just isn't a good idea. what on earth leads you to believe that he can be "solid to very good"? what did he show? this is like the science vs faith argument. if you think he can be good based on faith, i respect that, but there is certainly no scientific fact or empirical data whatsoever to support your belief. you better send out a vatican priest to investigate this matter.
  12. good quarterbacks can make at least a few plays with substandard NFL players. carolina is a far cry from "substandard" jimmy clausen is a no talent puke who never ever looked like an nfl quarterback last year. i don't know how anyone can defend his performance, he just ran out there and pissed his pants and ran back to the bench a bunch of times per game.

  14. and for a wide receiver. that's a gamble and a half.
  15. i don't like julio jones that much, jeez.
  16. i think it was obvious last season that clausen is not an NFL caliber football player. get what you can for him while you can. I don't think you can make that call until he has some NFL talent around him. i disagree, you can tell when someone is just bad. he showed nothing last season, nothing. he was bad from beginning to end. if he were a football player, he would have had a moment or two.
  17. i really hope either carimi or liuget is on the board at 29. i have no faith that we will pick either of them.

  19. kopecky is a big nasty loudmouth weirdo that can sometimes pull out a magical move and score a crazy goal. nobody really enjoys playing against a guy like him and it would be nice to have him on a 3rd or 4th line.
  20. you're a filthy pirate hooker
  21. No the coach announced Lu was his starter and insisted that he was serious. But who really knows for sure. Most media people believe him though and are talking as if Lu is in the net. if they're lying it just goes to show how panic-stricken and unconfident they are.
  22. It's true, they do have an insane amount of junkies in that city. Beautiful and fun town, but absolutely littered with junkies. runaways and street kids flock to that part of the continent.
