  1. If Pierre can't steal on Piazza then he doesn't belong in the majors anymore.
  2. So we have Bynum, Theriot, and Perez on the roster. These are true 25th men -- guys who are fortunate just to sit on the back end of any MLB bench. Last May we had Enrique Wilson, Macias, and Perez on the roster. I've never understood how a big payroll team can end up with multiple players of this type. Tim has pointed out that this happens a lot, and not just to the Cubs. Why does it happen? Is the talent pool thin?
  3. Seconded. How about a three way deal where the Yanks get Jones and we get Church from the Nats? O:) I would do a trade of nothing for Jones.
  4. Jacques Jones would look great in a Yankees uniform.
  5. Kerry Wood is one of our best two pitchers? Since when?
  6. Juan Pierre already throws like my mom.
  7. the bullpen is dusty-proof though Am I the only one not excited about the bullpen? Don't get me wrong, Eyre is a nice upgrade and Dempster has been better than I expected. But, Hendry is going on 3 years of making the bullpen an offseason priority and I don't see that much of an appreciable difference to date. That being said, I haven't looked at their stats recently. I bitched about the $$ spent on all those guys from day 1. I wanted offense and starting pitching.
  8. That's a double for anybody with two functional knees.
  9. I expected Riot tonight. Why was he called up?
  10. Beernitz could nail a fly on home plate. That guy really had a cannon. I hated his offense but he's a pretty good defensive corner OF. His range is respectable and he throws quite well.
  11. As a starter Pierre is useless if he's not leading off. He can't drive in or even advance runners and his defense sucks so he's not someone you just stick at #8 like you do with non-hitting but good defensive catchers and shortstops. If you don't let him lead off you may as well bench him.
  12. I had never seen Jones play before this year but I read his throwing was very good. I don't know how he got that reputation. Overall I don't miss Burnie but he could throw.
  13. Gutsiest move I ever saw. Screw Maverick. Iceman was better.
  14. The Cubs scored 13.79% of their total runs for the season on opening day.
  15. I don't know why Pierre would ever bother trying to throw to home.
  16. In all seriousness I'm starting to wonder if Neifi's stock is down because his speed is just average and he doesn't steal bases. First I laughed, then I realized it made a lot of sense, then I laughed again. Then I cried. Dusty cited his ability to "run and bunt" as reasons for bringing Ryan up. He thinks the move will light a fire under the other guys.......... ........ Oooo, I like the "light a fire" remark. Next we'll hear he's a spark plug, scrappy, a catalyst, and a gamer.
  17. In all seriousness I'm starting to wonder if Neifi's stock is down because his speed is just average and he doesn't steal bases.
  18. Pie or Coats should be brought up anyways, just to replace slappy Pierre. We still would need a big bat. Wait, so you want the team to score even fewer runs than it already does? It's a wonderful idea to replace the guy leading the team in Runs scored. Have you thought to consider how many runs a good hitter would have scored in Pierre's place?
  19. Obviously Bynum should go. He's shown he's a butcher in the OF and he's redundant at 2B. He's also a lousy PH option.
  20. But his OBP is a blistering 328. So Theriot is at .282/.328/.309 in AAA? Man, it sucks to be Neifi. Of course Neifi also has 5 million reasons to be happy.
  21. You'd keep Maddux? He'd be the first player I'd shop. He'll be one of our best trading chips, maybe the best, and I'd want to make room for all of Marshall/Hill/Ryu/Guzman to have at least occasional starts.
  22. Wow, amazing how far Neifi's stock has plummetted only 30 games after getting a $5M contract. Last year he was allowed to play through horrific prolonged slumps while staying at the top of the lineup. Not anymore.
  23. Mmm, I see. I'm not familiar with Robinson's work but he looked pretty klutzy on that one play today.
  24. A couple days ago Aram hit a fly ball that he watched all the way into the turf before he actually started running and subsequently he had to slide into 2nd instead of trotting in standing up. It wasn't a routine catch either. In stark contrast, Thome ran hard today on a ball that looked like an easy out. This stuff really bugs me.
