  1. If the Padres have nothing to trade they could offer to take Pierre. We could do that too.
  2. Hahahahahaha hmmmm, why would a player with more walks have fewer AB's........i'll get back to you when i figure it out I've always thought that one of the weirdest things about baseball discussions is how infrequently plate appearances are used as a measure of playing time. Your hear people quote AB figures about 5 times more often PA figures when talking about playing time. I'll never understand that.
  3. It'll take Hill plus parts to get it done, assuming the Rays are serious and not jive turkeys. Marmol's trade value is a pretty sizeable step down from Hill's or Crawford's but it's still big enough that I wouldn't give up both Marmol and Hill for Crawford.
  4. He'll always have the "I was traded even up for Greg Maddux" though. No, Hendry sent $2M cash in the deal.
  5. If Todd Jones is getting $7M I shudder to think what Cordero will get. If a stinkin relief pitcher is our blockbuster acquisition of the offseason then we're doomed.
  6. Sometimes I think the save stat was invented solely to get big paydays for mediocre pitchers.
  7. I'm hoping getting Infante makes it less likely we get Kaz Matsui.
  8. Well, based on his season, I don't see Infante getting much more than $1.5M in arby. Jones was due $5.5 + signing bonus and we're apparently only paying for the signing bonus. So it seems we're saving $4M to me. Okay $4M savings makes this a worthwhile deal. I agree it would have been better to save the $1.5M that Infante will get in arby and just take some minor league roster fillers instead.
  9. For about $2M the Tigers converted a utility player into a starting OF. IMO this deal helps the Tigers a lot more than the Cubs.
  10. What is the difference between naming an album "[expletive]" and naming it "[expletive]?" Or "[expletive]", or "Yard Ape?" I can't imagine too many people would consider these acceptable names.
  11. Infante is a known quantity now. Hendry's job is at stake. He won't be dabbling in unknowns this year.
  12. Only other way to move him is packaging him with someone like Pie or Patterson.
  13. Ceszuo Iztui? One thing worth considering is that if Jimbo did pick up Izzy's option at $5.45M there wouldn't have been any way to backload it. The whole sum would have gone onto the 2008 payroll. With Kaz he can offer a backloaded 3/13 contract with a very low payment in 2008. I believe Hendry really is cynical and selfish enough to think this way.
  14. So Matsui is getting a 3/13 offer? If Hendry wanted an all-glove no-stick SS why didn't he just hang on to Izturis and pick up his option for $5.45M? It would have been only a one-year committment instead of the three years that Matsui will get. I HATED having Izzy here and certainly didn't want to see his option exercised but 3/13 for Matsui is enough to make me want Izzy back.
  15. Cabrera is under control for 2 years. If it turns out the new owner can't afford to extend him he can be traded for a nice return next offseason. If we get Santana and the new owner can't afford an extension then he'll walk and all we get is a draft pick. I'll take Cabrera. I didn't think this thread was about Cabrera or Cabrera vs. Santana. Of course it is. We don't have enough trade bait to get both Santana and Cabrera. If one of them is a better choice then that's totally relevant to the discussion.
  16. Cabrera is under control for 2 years. If it turns out the new owner can't afford to extend him he can be traded for a nice return next offseason. If we get Santana and the new owner can't afford an extension then he'll walk and all we get is a draft pick. I'll take Cabrera.
  17. Santana could get $150M in free agency. I wouldn't be against trading for him if we had money for an extension, but I really doubt the money is there. I'd rather look at Cabrera.
  18. I'm sure it's the 32 stolen bases that have Hendry excited. Kaz might end up at leadoff with Soriano going to #2.
  19. 120x120 for me. 100X100 is a bit too small to capture facial expressions.
  20. It would be pathetic if the primary target of our offseason is a relief pitcher but it wouldn't surprise me. Hendry has always been a fool for whatever reliever is the hot commodity in any given offseason.
  21. ARod. This is not even close to being a hard choice. The day is not far off when Soriano will be an average or worse LF and the leadoff thing just wastes his power. He also makes $19M over his last 5 years. With ARod you'll get an elite 3B for the whole contract and he'll actually produce RBI's because he doesn't have that absurd leadoff requirement.
  22. No surprises here. Hendry just confirmed the obvious. Too many fat contracts already on the books + pending sale = no ARod.
  23. Freel won't be available. He's a classic Dusty player. Moving Hamilton may actually be about getting Freel more at bats.
  24. Dempster's one good year as a starter was back in 2000. If we're using Hendry's logic then we better sign Darin Erstad since he was also good in 2000.
  25. It's not likely but this could mean Hill is now available for a Carl Crawford deal.
