  1. NC tied with EC in the battle of directional Carolina.
  2. 49-0 after the first quarter (!!!) How is that possible?!
  3. If LSU stomps Va. Tech, would that change your mind? I agree though, Oklahoma is scary good. That'd make it close, but I'd still probably put OK on top. Washington State/BSU sure was weird. 24-10 at the end of one quarter...24-10 final score.
  4. If I were voting this week, I'd have Oklahoma #1, no question. I don't think there's anything USC or LSU could do to change my mind.
  5. How many catchers are above avg. hitters? If you wait for that, you'll be spending a ton in FA, trading a large % of your farm, or still waiting. If he does well defensively, can hit in the .260-.280 range with some pop with a good eye at the plate, he'll be fine there and better than what they've had since the 93' season w/Wilkins and before that Davis. He's had a nice year this year indeed. Has it been that much of a spike over the rest of his career? Is it possible he's had help and that's why the Cubs didn't call him up before Hill? Are you talking about the type of "help" Rick Ankiel may have had? I'd like to think not, but these days I don't think you can rule out that possibility for anyone. Yes. His possible thinking could be "Hey, I've been here for 2 years, what have I got to lose in my third year?" I hope not but since baseball has such a crappy testing system you can't help but to wonder. I wouldn't count anybody out of that possibility in this day and age, but Soto also staretd a diet and exercise regimen in the offseason and lost 20-30 pounds. Whether that was assisted or not is anybody's guess, but a third time around + entering prime + being in much better physical shape could very reasonably contribute to a significant improvement in performance. In any case, I want him as #1 next year.
  6. umm..I second the "I dont get this" post enlightenment, plz...... Basically, it's like this. soto has been a beast all season long. His numbers are ridiculous, and he's been just pretty much killing the ball night in and night out. After a while, after enough posts of "soto 2-4 with a homer" and "I sure am glad Soto's in the minors while Bowen/Hill/Kendall tear it up in the bigs" type posts, somebody (can't remember who) started just posting "Geovany Soto," and since it was the same thing pretty much every day in the minor league daily threads, the rest was just implicit. I'm a big fan of Soto, but he's never been an above average hitter before this year.... No idea what that has to do with what I just said.

  8. GEO! No matter what. (will anybody get that?)
  9. Brennan is 34/40 for 416 and 6 TDs. at halftime.
  10. I think there may have been one.
  11. Arkansas has some pretty good running backs.
  12. Arkansas has a couple of Dicks at QB.
  13. The schedule is definitely in our favor, but last year we had Auburn, Florida, Arkansas, and Tennessee on the road. it really doesn't matter though. if you assume that in a perfect world the tigers have a 75% chance of beating each of those teams, the probability that they go undefeated is just 32%. Throw in the title game and the probability is down to 24%. thats the problem with the sec. its a gauntlet like no other. les miles was right. Really. You think if Florida, Arkansas and Auburn were replaced by Michigan, Penn St and Wisconsin it would be easier. Dont forget Wisconsin beat Arkansas last year in a bowl game and has most of their team back. Again I am saying that the supposed SEC guantlet isnt remarkably tougher than other BCS conferences. Mostly just more ESPN hype. Championship game
  14. Why don't you either add some actual substance to your posts or quit criticizing every post? Do I need to add anything to this? It should be fairly obvious that my point was that it's a limited sample using a bad statistic. So it really is worthless. I didn't think I needed to point that out. That and I was in a hurry and didn't feel like posting anything else before class. Also, isn't it a little hypocritical for someone to tell someone to stop criticizing when in fact they're also just criticizing? I know you're a moderator, but I'm just saying... There was obviously substance to my post. The number of words do not define the substance of the post. This is one case where being bluntly honest achieves the effect of pointing something out statistically. My point was that a four game win loss sample for a pitcher is worthless. So, the topic "Zambrano 0-4 since signing" is worthless. Here's a nice little guideline: if your flippant, condescending comment requires a subsequent paragraph long clarification, it probably wasn't as substantive as you believe it to be. Also, being derisive doesn't make you any smarter or more correct.
  15. Well, in case anybody cares ;) a bunch of Cubs execs are in Peoria tonight watching the Chiefs play, and our boys gave them a good show, winning 6-0 and four pitchers combining to throw a no-hitter.
  16. Whoa, talk about putting on a show for all the execs in Peoria. And it's over! 6-0 Chiefs! Russell, Siegfried, Maradeo, and Ceda combined for a no-hitter!
  17. Why the hell are you breaking out splits? Murton was productive last year. Floyd was not. It's freaking simple. There's no need for clarification......................... So you'd agree that Jacque Jones was productive last year and there's no need to break out splits? WHAT DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH ANYTHING Good Lord. We should either be mindful of splits or we shouldn't. But you can't have it both ways. What in the bright orange squeaky hell are you talking about? The statement you're calling into question is that Murton has been productive recently and is more likely to perform productively in the futire, and that Floyd isn't. That has absolutely nothing to do with splits. Floyd is 1.8 bajilion years old. his power is gone, he's injury prone, and he's not very valuable. Murton has struggled, but he put up a .800+ OPS in close to a full season last year, and he's in his prime years. That's the point. Splits have jack to do with that, yet for some reason you keep bringing up splits. Have you even read anything you're responding to? And then you bring up Jacque Jones. Why did I even ask? Of course you're not actually reading what people are saying. I think it's you that's not reading what's being posted. Please see my enumerate point No. 1 above. I'm calling into question how anyone can say with a straight face that Murton has been productive over the last two years against RHP but Floyd has not. NOBODY SAID THAT. THAT'S MY POINT. Holy crap.
