  1. They are already under the CBT by a little over 4 million.
  2. Also, keep Neris away from 60 appearances. He will opt in to his 9 million dollar deal next season. Less than 60 appearances, it's the Cubs option.
  3. This has certainly not been a rebuild. Rebuilding teams don't spend money on long term deals. They make one year signings. The intention may have been to rebuild when the salary dump happened. But it was quickly aborted after one year, and signings and extensions started to happen.
  4. His hard hit rate and exit velo is falling fast though.
  5. But they are in that same group of teams. It's not like they are a good team playing bad teams. They are a bad team playing other bad teams.
  6. It's no wonder Tom doesn't let Jed spend more that 237 million. I know that I wouldn't.

    PCA

About 1 1/2 weeks ago, he was dead last of ALL defensive players in baseball with a -9 OAA. Today he's still dead last and ranks 263/263 at -10 OAA. His last couple of weeks have not been awful, but it's still not good. Much more playable lately for sure. He has made a couple of nice play for sure. But we have to ask ourselves. Do those plays look like nice plays because he doesn't normally make those? Are those plays that the average third baseman makes anyway?

    PCA

Bud, I said that I'm not suggesting that Shaw's better, or that he should be up. He's up when he's up. But when that time does come, I think he takes over 3B.

    PCA

I agree. But Morel is the least of the evils at 3B. He's just keeping the spot warm for Shaw. Whenever that is. I'm not suggesting that Shaw is better right now, or should be up. But what we have right now as optionss are not the answer.

    PCA

Yeah, I guess you're right. It just looks like 3B is going to be a black hole until Shaw is ready to take the spot.

    PCA

This is exactly what's likely going to happen. Throw Morel in that group also.

    PCA

If PCA has the same playing time opportunity that the guys ahead of him have here, He leads the team in WAR by far. These are projections as a part time player. Make him a full time player and it's a different story.

    PCA

Four good productive OF's? Who are these guys? I'd take PCA over any of them right now. Belli can play a corner OF, 1B, DH.

    PCA

Since PCA is not projected to be a big stick, there's no reason to wait or expect him to be a big stick. He has so much more value than hitting. If he ends up hitting .260 with 15 Hr's he's a 6 win player. Hell, over 600 PA's he was projected to have a 4.8 fWAR this season. That would lead the team by far. What he doesn't bring to the table with his stick, he makes up for in every asspect of the game. And if we're being honest, none of these guys are hitting.

    PCA

With the Cubs now officially gaining that extra year, is there any reason not to get PCA up against the Reds? As of tomorrow, he eligible for a recall. He's got nothing to prove in AAA, and this big league team needs help. There won't be any playing time issues either, as there's several options between the corner OF spots, 1B, 3B, and DH to mix and match without costing PCA any playing time.
  16. Jed hasn't shown the ability to do anything big. He's much more comfortable doing nothing and losing, than doing something big and MAYBE regretting it. Hell, PCA was on a 600 plate appearance pace for 4.75 WAR. He's afraid to keep him on the team. Service time games? Jed's not putting the best 26 guys on the roster, that's for sure.
  17. Sometimes teams are wrong. Sometimes something just clicks in a player. Vazquez is a very good SS with a very strong arm. Yes we can assume that he's a nothing player. But personally, I'd like to get confirmation before committing to him not being at the very least, an option at 3B. What harm can be done. I mean, look at the futility at 3B right now.
  18. Probably is the key word here. We already know that Madrigal can't hit. We can assume that Luis probably won't hit. But we don't know for sure. Instead of trying the same thing that's failed, why not try something different? Plus Luis is almost certainly better with the glove at 3B
  19. He was -3 very early. Then he went to -1. So he's actually getting worse as he goes along.
  20. So Morel is -9 in Outs Above Average. Not only is that the worst at 3B, but it's dead last for every player in the league at every position. How much longer does he play there? Why not give Vazquez a shot and move Morel to DH?
  21. I don't disagree. But if we're looking to put the best overall players on the field, he most certainly is one of them.
  22. Sadly, I think that you're right. This team is not about winning, or putting the best players on the field. That's extremely obvious.
  23. If we extrapolate his WAR to 600 PA's, he a 4.75 win player. He should be in CF every day right now.
