    Spotrac has Cody's market value at 4/97. If he can get that, he'll likely opt out.

    I'd start to look at some young guys as starters. The last game of the year at Wrigley, I'd have Kyle come out of the pen and get the send off that he deserves.

    I said this 5 months ago, that CC kept guys around because he has no idea who his new players are and the guys he kept around do know them. I fully expect him to bring some of his own guys in next season, now that he knows his players, and no longer needs guidance or input.

    I don't understand why Caleb is not on this roster. He's been healthy and pitching for a month now. He's completely stretched out, and he's pitching well. Is Jed this bad??? I mean, if it wasn't for injuries, I'd guess that Hodge would still be in Iowa.

    I'm seeing over 60 million to spend if Cody doesn't opt out. And that's accounting for all arb guys, and 0-3 guys.

    He signed with the Astros which is saving the Cubs 164,000. The new team is only responsible for the prorated minimum salary. The Cubs are on the hook for almost 2 million.

    The Cubs can not just buy him out. If he opts out, the Cubs have to give him 5 million.

    This is all spot on. Also, there's not an elite closer on the market anyway. With the live young power arms in the system right now, I'd be upset if they wasted that kind of money are a "closer."

    I think that if a guy gets removed due to an "injury," he has to miss his next start opposed to the DL.

    I could be wrong, but I would think that it's common sense to allow ramping up starts for this situation. I would think the same goes for the first month of the season. Make it like 85 pitches or whatever they decide on. But I like the idea of keeping a guy in who's on cruise control opposed to just pulling him at 90 pitches. Everything else seem like it will be the same.

    With the proposed new pitching rule, would the opener no longer be used is my question. I would assume that is the case. Of course they need the automated strike zone. It's complete BS that MLB still allows these guys to control at bats and quite often the outcome of games

    I agree. Why challenge it if the automated system already know what the pitch was. That's the exact think that they look at when they challenge. Just skip that process. What about running out of options? Then it's right back to umps controlling every at bat. Umps should be begging for this system. No more grief from fans and players. No more guess work and stress. No more embarrassment. It will make their job behind the plate a walk in the park.

    I like the idea. If a guy gets injured, gives up 4 earned runs, or reaches 100 pitches, he can be removed whenever they choose. I like that it keeps guys in the game that are pitching will, instead of just pulling them. I really don't see much change as far anything goes. If a guy is pitching well in the 6th and his PC is not high, they usually keep them in anyway. Now they have to keep them in. I like it. I would assume that this would be the end of the opener??

    I don't understand this at all. Is Belli getting a 4 million dollar raise in September? I see nothing to indicate that they are over the cap right now. How are they adding to payroll from this day on? I think he's lying because he's tired of hearing the "cheap" talk about spending. Either way, he's near the first level with a .500 caliber team! He's assembled a team with average to maybe a couple of good players. The prospects are projected to be average to above average, and are not very impressive at this moment. I can't believe how bad he is at his job. But I'm also assuming that winning a WS is his job.

    Exactly this!! But the fans I speak to either think he sucks, or he's great. He's neither. He's just a solid player.

    Personally, I wouldn't sign a 31 year old third baseman for 6 years. Especially at that cost. He's just not a 30 million dollar player. Maybe somebody gives it to him. I'm looking forward to Spotrac's market values to come out on FA's. As far as FA signings go, players usually sign for over their MV due to the bidding process. I think that 5/150 sounds about right for Bregman's next deal. EDIT: I just checked for the hell of it, and they have a lot of market values posted. FA signings are typically up to 25% over MV. They have Bregman's market value at 4/90.5, and 22.6 AAV

    It feels like our fan base has one of two opinions on Happ. Fans that think he's better than he is, and fans that think he's worse than he is. The fact is, that's he's a solid starter that just about every team would like to have in their lineup.
