  1. Maybe 1/4, or 2/7?
  2. When winning isn't prioritized, this is what we get.
  3. Of course I know that, teach!!!
  4. You're smarter than that.
  5. I did a detailed breakdown on current contracts, the 4 arb guys I think the tender, 0-3 guys, 0-3 bonus pool money, 40 man guys, and player benefits.
  6. I have them tendering 4 guys in arbitration. My numbers show that if Belli opts out, it's going to be over 90 million to spend. It's mid 60's if he doesn't opt out. I'm using Cot's arb numbers and only bringing back 4 guys in arb.
  7. Aggressive is subjective. His aggressive may be passive to another team president. This is crazy, but aggressive is signing, Soto, Burnes, Flaherty, and Scott. You asked!!! Hahaha...
  8. I get it. I'm just one that has little faith in Jed doing something aggressive to make us a WS contender.
  9. In short, I'd be shocked if they don't sign Flaherty. In my little mind, I feel like it's a forgone conclusion.
  10. Did they not get Stl pick for Willy that season? I could be wrong, but I thought they didn't lose a pick that season.
  11. No big deal. But this hasn't been something that Jed has ever done. He feel the picks and IFA money are more important than paying for a great player for some reason.
  12. For the Cubs, it's a 2nd, 5th and 1 million in IFA money.
  13. I look at it a little different, because 97% of it is differed to years 11-20. I see it more as a contract of 20/700. The first 10 years he'll be playing, and the 2nd ten years, he'll be retired. In reality, if they're paying him for 20 years, isn't it a 20 year contract? To me he's getting 35 million AAV for 20 years. Even though he's only playing baseball for 10 years.
  14. I agree with all but one thing. The made one last ditch offer to get under by putting Smyly on waivers. Nobody bit, so they are on the hook for his salary. Unless they can get to the WS in 2025, I don't see them going over.
  15. Spotrac has his market value at 14/514 based on a lot of factors. If there's 2 or more teams in on him, it will likely be higher than that.
  16. I'm taking Tom at his word with this one. He said, "We like to operate under the CBT threshold." "The penalties on CBT grow over time, so you want to be careful when you do it." "You don't want to have too many long-term contracts when you have a lot of young guys that are coming up through the minors." Until I see them pay in consecutive seasons, I'm going to assume the status quo. Believe me, I hope I'm very wrong.
  17. It has nothing to do with the 56 k in penalties. They can carry a 300 million dollar payroll and it won't matter. They have their self imposed budget at the CBT. They don't like to go over that amount. This was a big blunder on Jeds part to go over. They have never gone over in consecutive if we don't count 2020 as the league suspended the tax penalties that season. As far as the Jed is concerned, losing draft picks and IFA money is a big deal if they sign a guy with a QO. Because he went over, the penalty is even steeper this season. In the end, they don't have a history of paying in consecutive seasons.
  18. I feel very confident that they won't go over next year because they don't want to go over in consecutive seasons. But now they will lose their 5 pick and an additional 500 k because they went over.
  19. Because they went over, they won't be going over in 2025. Because they went over, if they sign a FA with a QO, they lose their 2nd pick, their 5 pick, and 1 million in IFA money.
  20. I could agree with this for sure. I personally don't know what the business goal is. Tom shouldn't be happy at all if winning was important to him. I also don't think winning is important to him. Of course he would prefer to win, but I don't think it means the world to him. This is Jed's last year of his contract, or he's getting extended. Neither would surprise me. I just don't have any indication that winning is important to Tom. Every single thing he's done to the field, and around the field is to generate more revenue. It's a pretty long list of investments. He just hasn't chose to invest in the actual team. Maybe this off season?
  21. As far as the fans go, it's a make or break season. But we don't know how Tom feels about him. On the surface, it appears that he's content to happy with the job Jed has done.
  22. I still can't believe that we were able to dump a bench player, and 2 minor league players for a 25 year old 3.5-4 win player. He's an enormous upgrade!!
  23. Not a big deal. This does however sound like a Jed signing. A player that won't have a lot of interest, while being on a short deal.
  24. I know opinion articles mean nothing, but here's something. Talking 2/30 deal. https://www.si.com/mlb/cubs/news/tomoyuki-sugano-predicted-to-sign-with-chicago-cubs-in-free-agency
  25. If they actually are favorites, it's because he's not a top pitcher, and can be had for less money. It's the intelligent spending way.
