  1. One thing about Eyre that is encouraging though (assuming we do sign him now)...his WHIP has gotten better each of the last 4 years, with it being around 1.1 last year, he's proven he can handle being overworked, like Dusty likes to do with his favorite relievers (over 80 appearances each of the last two years, and 70 or more each of the last 4). He has been solid the last two Septembers despite the heavy work load, and his ERA in the second half last year was actually better than the first. We need someone that Dusty can run out there over and over and over and over without wearing out, because if he's any good, that's exactly what Dusty will do. Now that I've taken a good look at him, I hope JH does go out and sign him (for two years, not three).
  2. We don't know how much the contract is for yet, so that's not really a fair statement (yet). 3 yrs at less than 1 mil wouldn't be a bad deal for this guy (although I doubt it will be for that). I'm not too keen on any 3 year deals for relievers. I'm surprised that JH isn't nervous about signing Scott "LaTroy Remlinger" Eyre.
  3. Angel Hernandez has no business umping professional baseball. Not in the indy league, much less in the major leagues. He's called so many bad games that I've seen, it's ridiculous. I can think of at least a dozen off of the top of my head from the last two years alone.
  4. See, I'd be fine with this justification normally and all, but the fact that A-Rod won the MVP while with the Rangers in 2003 despite the Rangers doing squat kind of blows the irrelevancy argument up. Dawson in '87 anyone?
  5. Rotoworld's reports are all based off Newspaper articles and other published reports. This particular rumor was from the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, as seen quoted in the original post. I've never found them to be too useful for rumors, either way. In this case, sounds like Florida is trying to create interest in Gonzalez, maybe to get a pick out of him, I don't know. I certainly doubt that there's been any interest on our part. It's just inconceivable that we're interested in him at all. Even as a backup, we don't need him, as we already have two SS capable guys. If we get Furcal, that would be three. edit: unless there's a trade in the works involving Cedeno, and Hendry wants another backup. I doubt Gonzalez would sign on as a third string SS though.
  6. True. What was his batting average this season? Wasn't it something like .263? Weren't a lot of his dings with bases empty? Andruw Jones isn't in the top 10 in the NL in OPS. And he finished a very close second. That about sums up my feelings. Jones finishing ahead of DLee was so ridiculous, I didn't even bother commenting on that part of it.
  7. Looking back, maybe in '04 he was. In '03, Bonds missed 32 games. Pujols had a wide margin in Runs and RBIs and took the batting title, without the juice. (okay, they didn't know yet in '03 he was on the juice...er...the clear, or the cream...whatever...). Pujols should have won it in '03.
  8. One word Jerry Hairston Jr. He filled in nicely on the DL for Sosa IMO. Injuries to key players did play a factor as much as you'd like to bury you head in the sand on this fact. The injuries and the thin bench expose was the Cubs undoing. Simple and also in the past. We move on. I think a third of the problem was injuries, a third was mismanagement (i.e. Corey and Neifi hitting 1 and 2, LaTroy beginning the year as closer, Holla not being used as our primary PH), and a third was a couple of key players not performing even close to what was expected (i.e. CPatt). The thin bench magnified these other shortcomings.
  9. Sounds like a makeup vote to me. Pujols deserved it over Bonds the last couple years, but got ripped off. Lee had a better year than Pujols this year, but not enough better to overcome the success that Pujols team had.
  10. Rotoworld bases their rumors more on "who is a FA at what position, and what teams are pursuing someone to fill that position" than anything factual. Rotoworlds rumor mill is one of the worst ones out there. No way on earth Hendry goes after Gonzales with Cedeno already on the team.
  11. Why don't you see a trade with Cincy? They need cheap, good pitching. We have cheap, good pitching. We can give them quality or quantity. Because Cincy is too stupid to realize that we match up pretty well as trading partners. That's why...
  12. I have a feeling one of either Murton or Cedeno will be moved in this trade. Beinfest is a very good GM. They will want someone who is ML ready. I will listen to updates on the local sports radio down here in S. FL. I'll let you know if I here anything different. It'd better not be Murton, Cedeno, or Pie. I'm game for just about anyone else to be traded for Pierre. I don't think Murton and Cedeno are considered minor leaguers at this point, as they finished the season on the 25 man roster, and are projected to start next season on it as well.
  13. I'd ask for Sisco back. Otherwise, I get their hopes up, make them think it's a done deal, just to yank it out from under them, then go out of my way to deal him to one of KCs division contenders. Of course, I'm a spiteful SOB...
  14. I would disagree. Considering Hill's lack of ability to consistantly throw his curve for a strike when he is behind in the count, his lack of a third pitch puts him at a great disadvantage against major league hitters. If he gets behind in the count, a good hitter can sit back on the fastball or look for the walk. His curve isn't quite as consistant as, say, KRod, to where he can rely on it when he's down 3-1 in the count. That's why he needs a third pitch, and a change would be more than adequate to keep hitters from sitting back to much when they're ahead in the count. What are you disagreeing with? His K/9 has been consistently high ever since he entered the organization. All I said was that up to the big league level (i used the past tense "has") his two pitch repertoire has been enough to get him by. I never said he'd get away with it at the major league level. I do completely agree with what you posted other than that though. :D It sounded to me in your last post that you were saying that because his K/9 has been good enough in the past that he wouldn't need a third pitch to succeed in the majors. I misinterpreted, sorry... Back to Hill though, I think he'll be a great setup man someday, maybe even a closer, but I don't see him succeeding as a starter.
  15. CIN will move Dunn and Kearns seperately. It's the best way to maximize their trade value. I agree. Let them keep Kearns in the above proposal, and we'll keep Murton. I like Kearns, but I like Murton more...
  16. Hmmmmmm.... Could we FINALLY be producing some decent position players from OUR farm? We'll see...
  17. Even if that was the case, he could have gotten considerably more than Vic Zambrano in return if he would have just tried. We could have given more than that ourselves.
  18. 19. That was just the starting point. I doubt Hendry himself expecteded them to accept the offer. His next offer, if Washington's rebuttal wasn't too far from reality, may very well be something like CPatt, Mitre, and Hill for him, maybe some cash. If you're expecting Hendry to give his best, most realistic offers as a beginning point, then I would have to wonder if you understand the bargaining process that goes on here. He could also just be soliciting a response from them to help him judge the market for CFers before making a decision to pull the string on a deal for Pierre or someone else.
  20. Am I the only one who thinks Hill at best will pan out to be a setup man? He has a knee-buckling curve, a mediocre fastball, and not much else. A good reliever can get by on those, but not a starter. A starter would have to have a good 3rd pitch to go to with his underwhelming fastball to have sustained success, but Hill doesn't.
  21. What if Hendry signs Furcal and Giles, and trades for Wilkerson? Furcal Wilkerson Lee Giles Aram Murton Barrett Cedeno I think I like it...Hendry could be on to something...
  22. Keep in mind, that it does mean Hendry is interested in him. Of course he's not going to offer too much right off of the bat...he's going to see what Washington counters with, and then decide if somewhere in the middle is acceptable to him. I wouldn't expect a realistic offer to be the first offer from either side.
  23. No. He still has 2 options left. Since KC claimed him off of rule 5, they still have the same number of waivers, just not during the first year? Rule 5 sucks...
  24. Can they send him down? I would have thought he would have to clear waivers, I'm not sure...
  25. Dusty for Milton Bradley, anybody? Grady Little is still in the organization, isn't he? I thought I heard Little signed with someone to be a bench coach. I saw that on some messageboard or something similarly unsubstantiated, but have not heard whether or not that actually happened. Can anyone confirm?
