  1. All good points. He'll get the shot on off days for Veras (if we have many). It's frustrating to talk about choices made to get the most trade value out of guys but long term it's better for us for all the reasons you state.
  2. I think it may come down to SD and the Cubs. However, I would not be surprised to the Sox and Twins in the running. The only thing helping them is they play each other a lot. Arizona,LA and Cincy will be better. Houston + Miami maybe I kind think they have taken a step up(baby step) but I think they both win 70. They will benefit a little from their division's teams dealing with big injuries (A's,Rangers, Braves, Mets)- Not to say they catch them, just a bit easier to get a few wins. Of course they still have to be in the discussion. One of our problems is that we play in a good division, we actually should be better than both but our record could be worse, same with the Padres. The Giants, Dodgers should be very good, Diamondbacks pretty good also, with the Rockies similar to the Brewers were they are decent, but just not up to the level of the rest of the division.
  3. Deep breath…. I have to remember that most of these guys won't be here soon, just need to be happy that Castro and Rizzo looked better. Shark was great again, Grimm did well, and Lake was at least Lake. Have to think in the future- if we have the top 3-4 hitters on 10-11 times in game, with Baez and Bryant hitting behind them, we will score…. the only real downside was Olt still struggling
  4. Good news is the Papelbon is worthy of the Cubs bullpen so far this year!

  6. At least spent money for something new on the major league field...
  7. I just love that Lake shows the ability to bunt...
  8. I am not sure how we do this but (1st)Bonifacio is 2-4, (2nd)Castro 3-4 and (4th)Rizzo is 2-3 in 7 innings, and we still haven't scored a run.
  9. I thought he looked pretty turdly outside of his first hit. you get no extra points for looking good…3 hits=3 hits. It all evens out when 3 line drives are right at someone but I know we are looking for signs of a turnaround.
  10. *Just a little side note -if Justin Ruggiano is your #3 hitter, you are not a very good team...
  11. Wow, that's different! we should do that more often
  12. The other thing that kills me about "Farmio" is that there is nothing that can happen in a game that didn't happen one time when he played. A cessna could touch down on the infield, the pilot hop out and steal 2nd base, and take off over the bull pen. Ed would tell you about how that happened to him in some 3rd world country "winter" league or now defunct dirt road farm league(or when he was playing with Frank Robinson)
  13. Farmers a weird dude. Hey, did you know he played with and against Frank Robinson? Just listen to a broadcast and you'll hear all about it!
  14. Slow day here, so I have to throw this out there. Listening to the Sox while Johnson is throwing terribly. Ed Farmer said "we fully expect Eric Johnson to be a top 5 pitcher in of all baseball".
  15. unbeknownst to most, Utley posted an OPS of .823 last season...
  16. the cubs lost game 5 of that series. the last playoff win was game 4. the playoff losing streak is nine games. Well look at the bright side, the Cubs have only lost 9 playoffs games in the last 10+ seasons…not bad, Im guessing the Red Sox, Cardinals and Yankees have probably lost dozens!

  18. I think you need to develop whatever top talent you can get(obviously) but then you have to be ready to trade your strength to fill your weaknesses. I think Hendry failed at this terribly, seemingly overvaluing his guys. It is such a crap shoot to sign the top guys, whether it be a middle of the order bat or top of the rotation arm. They are usually older, very possibly heading for diminishing outcomes and signing for huge dollars for huge years. I think the FO is working at getting the best players that will be ready during the same 2-3 year window allowing them flexibility to get what they are missing. I would fully expect we grab the best College pitcher available at our slot. Thinking he should be ready in the 1-3 seasons, about the time when most of our hitters will arrive- obviously a couple will arrive before that.
  19. Not exactly the start we were hoping for, it's a long season (very long for us) and by July those 17/18 at bats will be a drop in the bucket.
  20. Why would you think we were better than the Phillies? They are pretty much better at every position on the field, have better starters, better bullpen, better offense…I guess we can hope Rentria out manages Ryno.
  21. Barney walks for the 3rd time. He's about halfway to his season total...
