  1. He's only been caught stealing 36 times in 8 seasons(139 steals), so it doesn't seem like it's a normal occurrence…but if he keeps this up he may double that in April. In 2012 he had 30 steals and was caught 3 times. Pickoffs don't count as Caught Stealings pretty sure they do
  2. If they did that on purpose, it's either really stupid baseball or they have absolutely no respect for the Cubs lineup.
  3. Alvarez had some good power stats last year, but why exactly would you ever pitch to McCutcheon unless you absolutely had to?
  4. I'd be pretty happy if was just normal Edwin Jackson this year...

  6. We could use a few wins here, we have a brutal April schedule...
  7. He's starting the home opener That and some said they see Philadelphia as a better use of a lefty. ok, that sounds good. I just hate to see "bad edwin" show up in game 2, hopefully he'll be hidden in the clubhouse
  8. First, I understand full well why we are paying the salary. If we pay the entire salary we assuredly get more value in return. No one knows how much someone might have paid of his salary because we weren't in the negotiations. I understand with the no trade clause it narrows our options. I am simply saying that watching us pay Soriano's salary to play for someone is frustrating when we then play "poor" for this season. I know we are trying to maximize our assets and build our farm system, and I can see how that is working. The thread was leaning to the "dual fronts" complaints, and although I get what they are doing, when it comes to 2014, and our lack of money, it's frustrating to watch.
  9. Serious help from Soriano? No, from the 17.7 mil we are paying Soriano to play for someone else.
  10. Any one think of a reason why Wood isn't starting game 2?

  12. Yeah they totally should've seen this coming months ago wtf!? No, it's just dumb to schedule an off day the 2nd day of the season instead of playing the 3 games and then scheduling the day off. It gives you more options to get all 3 games in. Way too much sense...
  13. For me it's difficult to watch them seemingly cut the payroll and not be able to spend to get players but then pay huge amounts of money to have Soriano and Zambrano play for someone else. I know we got a lower level-high upside prospect from the Yankees, but at 17 mil a year we're paying Soriano, we could have gotten some serious help for this season. I also know we need pitching prospects, and they may work out, or may have value as trade chips but it's still frustrating to act poor on one hand, and spend big money to get rid of players on the other. I still have faith in the FO and think that we are heading the right way, that we will get there and stay there. There is no reason we should not be a contender every year, like the Cardinals, without having to spend like the Yankees. The kids are close, and you can see so many upgrades to the way the organization does things, that it helps but it's still pretty tough to head into opening day knowing you don't have a chance to compete.
  14. Everyone knows it is a concern. However 1 game good or bad proves nothing either way. It was a tough match up for everyone especially lefties. Sure it would have been great if he went 4 for 4, but that would mean just as little as 0 for 4 did. I suppose we should give up on Castro rebounding, and surely this mean Olt is a bust. On the other hand it looks like Liriano and Samardzija will be 1-2 in the Cy Young race....
  15. me too. I'll go 86. that would be down right "Joe Hardyish"...
  16. I in no way think we can contend, not even if we have career years from many guys. I do feel better about the start of this season. Maybe it's because we can see how close Baez and Bryant are, or maybe its because we have a few more guys on the team that may actually be there long term. I am interested to see how Wood and Castillo follow up last year. I am hoping for a turn around from Shark, Rizzo, and Castro..none of those things are out of the question. I have hoped for Lake and Olt. Hopefully at least one proves to be a player. Then of course how soon the other guys get the call. I predicted 70 wins, which is just a bit more than I predicted last season but unlike last year, as disappointing as the record may be, at least we have a few more entities to watch.
  17. I going with 70. I think we will play slightly better than that but we will have one more season of a few sell offs to drop us off at the end. I am looking to Castro to be our MVP/MIP this season maybe not back to 2010-2011 but make a run at 200 hits and .300 again.
  18. I was thinking it was about the time the ink was dry on the deal...The only thing (other than his own health) that could have derailed Olt was if Bryant was 100% ready offensively and defensibly this spring. I think the FO would be more happy if Olt claimed third, and they could move Bryant to a corner OF spot. That also would free up Villanueva for a trade chip.
  19. Hope we have plenty of cash available when Trout becomes a FA. After this how do you even consider signing an extension for anything less than 300m?
  20. I'm sure he will also, but maybe working more at third early to make sure the shoulder stays solid. It also sounds like Bonifacio will play almost everyday but all over the place. So he may take the left handed at bats at 2b.
  21. I'd think we'd need once in a career years similar to 1984!
  22. It may be overly optimistic but I think Castro comes back big time. I'm putting a lot of the blame on Sveum. In 2011, Castro had an OB% of .371 in the lead off spot..I think he had 72 games there. So of course in 2012, Sveum put him at lead-off 1 time. Even in his god awful least season, He had an OB% of around .310 in the 1 and 2 holes. Not great but when you look and see he was around .200 for ob% (not average) hitting down in the order, it's clear he's more comfortable there. Looking back exactly why did we need to change the approach of guy who had a .340+ ob% over nearly 2 seasons? I'm just hoping he gets off to a good start just to keep him relaxed.
