  1. He'll be a starter at nickel. Comparing this pick to McClellin is just not understanding football. I am not against the player,I am not comparing the players, I was simply saying I get a similar feeling that I got when we took Shea. He is not big, he is the 2nd smallest DB on our roster. The NFL combine report says BOTTOM LINE Narrow-framed, confident, competitive off-man/zone corner who should contribute readily on special teams while pushing for a role in sub packages. It may be a good pick for down the road, I just don't think we are in a spot to draft for down the road. We lack starting safeties. We lack starting interior lineman. We even lack starting linebackers but we drafted a potential nickel back and special teams player with an eye on replacing peanut someday. I just think we could have done better just like when we wasted a pick to try to make Shea a DE, when there were actual DE's that were rated higher available. If we are moving him to safety, then why not draft an actual safety. While you all blow kisses to Emory and his drafting, think about how poorly his defensive picks have been. Offensives moves have been great, but not so much on D. Also think about the fact that the people he learned from all have been fired, and after having failed miserably in KC. I hope it works out, but I have my doubts.
  2. The Bears may be Ok long term but its hard to stomach a pick that high that likely won't be a starter on a defense that had/has a lot of holes. Unless they are moving peanut to safety (which has been talked about before) I worry that we have a small window to build a defense while the offense is in place. The saving grace is that it looks like one of the D-lineman that we considered at #1 should be there in the second round but safety has a huge drop off after the top 2. So unless there is a move, we will still trot out 2 safeties that most experts consider back up quality. Beyond that you have huge questions at LB, and even still on the interior line. Hard to say we are good enough to draft a "nickel" in the first round or for our future need at CB. Nice player but we need help now at so many positions. I have a similar feeling to the McClellin pick where we watch better players for our needs being drafted by far better teams.
  3. I should have known better but after winning 2 of 3 from the cards...playing and pitching well. Having the Sox lose 5 of 6 and struggle. Then having the Braves on a long losing streak, I really thought we were heading for a god run. Then we decide we can't hit pitchers with double digit eras.
  4. Especially against the Sox. I can not stand listening to Sox fans who actually believe they are a contender. That and they really think Don Cooper is magic. They can't comprehend that they have finished in the bottom 3rd in staff ERA the last 3 years, but he's magic.
  5. The Sox made deals but to me it was window dressing for the fans. Right now things are ok, they are hovering around .500 but it simply can't last. They have 3 guys hitting .300, Ramirez, Flowers and Viciedo- they barely have .300 career ob% Abreau and Dunn may keep ops numbers that are good to very good, beyond that Ramirez is at .826. and Viciedo is at .846.Ramirez has been sub .700 the last 2 seasons, and Viciedo is a career .740 guy. When they revert to norm, they will have a bunch of guys in the .600's with Dunn, and Abreau. When their offense stalls, then their pitching problems will really be magnified.
  6. Sums up the Cubs-Sox series Gordon Beckham(pre-series stats .167 .231 ob%,.453 ops, 0 hrs) 3 game stats= 6 hits,3 runs,4 rbi, 2 hrs Cubs 3 game stats=12 hits,5 runs,5 rbi, 1 hr just an awesome display vs pretty sad pitching
  7. If Beckham and Semien can do it, so can Barney! Every blind dog finds a bone once in a while
  8. I don't see adding Abreau as proving the sox are building at both levels. Last year the subtracted Rios, Santiago,Floyd,Peavy, Reed, Crane, and Thornton to add Eaton, Abreau and a talented but unproven Garcia. Now that's building! Soon Dunn and Konerko will be gone. Abreau might continue to pound the ball, but he was actually supposed to be more of average and OB% guy, with some power. 30-35 hrs Right now several sox players are playing better than ever. If Abreau,Eaton, Ramirez,Flowers, Gillespie,Dunn, and Viceido all continue at their current pace they are still a below .500 team. To me there is no doubt they fall off, and they are still looking at close to 90 losses. There are so many problem areas that even if Eaton, Abreau and Garcia are all stars, they aren't any closer to contending right now than we are, and we at least have hope on the Horizon…they have Semien.
  9. My bad, I was actually responding to the original post, but I just grabbed your quote You just got caught in the crossfire!
  10. That's not why this happened. Why are you so freaking good at saying dumb [expletive]? So what situation did you want to save Rondon for? It's the 9th inning of a tied game, you are home team…when is the save situation going to happen? So either you are saying we simply can't use him in this game because he's the closer or you have to use him in a non-save situation. He has been one of our best relievers, why wouldn't you use him then? If you bring in someone else and he blows it, you'd be bitching because he didn't use Rondon.
  11. I don't know how long Bonifacio will last but God, it's nice having Rizzo, Castro and Castillo doing what we hoped for offensively. Now if we can just get Olt going, it could be bearable to be this bad this season.
  12. I don't think it will matter but do you call it 2- 2 game series' or 1- 4 game series? As far as winning a series goes, we would have to win both at either location to win a 4 game series, it helps to not then have to split at the other spot.
  13. I think they did expect Baker to get at least a half of a season in, probably more but he had a set back in spring as I remember. I think they knew he might not be back to "normal", but I do think they thought they would be able to find out if he was.
  14. Another bright spot to my season. I got tickets to the washington series in june with the idea I would get to see Harper. Last year, I saw the Angels and Trout. So of course, Harper out until July. Maybe I can see a Shark-Strasberg match up instead.
  15. Thanks…that makes it even worse.
  16. I don't know how we look away from any major league level talent. If he actually scouts out to that type of player, We need to be in. If everyone pans out we can find places for them and we will still need to trade for pitching. This could be a way to add free agent help without losing picks or paying the huge price of proven american players. I would imagine David Wright on the free market would go for double what he'll get. -(judging by what Abreau got) Unfortunately, it would seem that the Yankees, and Dodgers could be in the market for a 3b also
  17. We have the Padres in May, but it is a 4 gamer also. We might have a better shot at St Lou then Milwaukee because they are struggling a bit. Milwaukee is rolling right now. Anything can happen in baseball but the upcoming schedule doesn't look good. Even the Sox continue to play over their head.
  18. Depressing month. I thought we wouldn't get to 10 wins. Worse yet is looking at May, I don't see how we win 10 there either. There is a chance we could actually get to 40 losses (probably only 36-38) I knew we wouldn't be good but I didn't think we be this bad. To seriously be looking at 40 losses in our first 60 games is tragic, certainly didn't see that coming. This may turn out to be the longest season yet of the Theo regime. What happens when/if we deal Shark and/or Hammel? The only possible bright spot is how do you not bring guys up if we have 50 losses by mid-June?
  19. What the heck happened, I switched to check on the bulls, turned back and we're in a delay. Did it just cut loose?
  20. Could also mean he's found something and fixed it. Not saying we should have gotten him just saying he has posted at least some of those stats. I'd actually be kind of pissed if we spent 10 mil on a player the caliber of Haren-he's remarkably Jackson-like and you could project Hammel, Mcdonald and/or Arrieta to post stats equal to Haren at a much lower cost
  21. Castro continuing to warm…nearing the .300 ba, ,330ob% and .770ops
  22. Good to see Tangled made it out of the tavern in time to start this one!
  23. well believe it or not, he is 9-5 with a save, and does have a 2.96 era in those last 21 games-
  24. Right now it seems like "oblique strain" in baseball correlates to "upper-body injury" in Hockey.
  25. God, its really depressing to look back at 2009 and 2010. Then remember how bad we ended up (71 wins), but look at the talent we had. You start to realize how far we have to go to put that kind of talent on the field again.
