  1. Just try to stay in touch with us when you find yourself in exile.
  2. 2 RBIs. I know he wasn't brought in to drive in runs, but that is a part of your offensive game. His 20 runs scored is lousy, but not humorous. No extension please.
  3. The truth is , with Hendry getting an extension, the damage is already done.
  4. Unfortunately you don't know when the regression will play out. The 2005 White Sox proved that a baseball season may be too short a time. Either way I figured the Cubs for mid to upper 80s in wins this year. Lee's injury is costing us about a game a month. So now we are looking at low to mid 80s. I think Wood will be great this year and Marshall or Miller could be great surprises. I haven't thrown in the towel yet.
  5. Most of us know that he was once a hot prospect. Even so, here are his up to the minute Major League stats against left-handed pitchers. .286/.338/.471 in 140 ABs. He has struck out 31 times and grounded into 8 DPs. So he does have a high "frustration factor." But obviously these numbers are way better than Jones has done in his career. It's such a natural platoon that it must have escaped the Cubs' braintrust (oxymoron alert).
  6. What is the Cubs' e-mail address? I'd like to add my name to the list.
  7. I believe that was 11. I will short the market and head to the gym. Good night everybody.
  8. Over/under on Duke pitches this inning: 11.
  9. This might be too big a deficit for us.
  10. You're too kind. Jones shouldn't come to the ballpark when we face a lefty until the 7th inning. That HR he hit off Rich Hill in the first intra-squad game? One of the worst things that happened to us this year. Baker is like a child.
  11. The sad fact is that Jones has done about what should have been expected of him. One more hit and his AVG would be where it's been the last two years, one of his HRs being a 2B and his SLG would be there.
  12. Pierre's not valuable. Let him go. PLEASE!!
  13. Yankees beat us to Pena and Red Sox beat us to Choi.
  14. I do think the Cubs will end up trading Jones, but not in a deal for Abreu. I'm sure the Phillies would want all young prospects for rebuilding purposes. Taking Jones and his $5 million contract would run counter to rebuilding and dumping salary. My deal has cash going to Philly in the trade. If they get Pie and Hill or Guzman, with Jones and the money to pay him, they wouldn't be getting what they need? It all depends on the Phils being bad enough to figure that a 32 year-old OFer is not going to be around when they next contend.
  15. We need a bat. Jones in RF is an embarassment.
  16. I thought of this last night. I was gonna start a new thread. I think we'll extend Pierre and make Pie the centerpiece of a trade that includes Jaque Jones, a pitching prospect or two, and some cash for Abreu. I am on record on this board as having the Cubs winning the division, so if the Phillies fall apart, Abreu will be available and we will be looking. I just hope the Red Sox don't covet him.
  17. You beat me to it! The 5-second delay on MLB.TV is hurting me. And wrong.
  18. This is all ridiculous. Wood will be entrenched in our starting rotation while we will be in serious contention on July 31st. Talk of trade and Wood as a setup man is Mariotti-Bayless-esque. Give it a rest.
  19. But speed is reflected quite well in the traditional stats. It's what gives Jaun Pierre a a higher batting average than a pitcher. It allows Jaun Pierre to play CF and thus stay in the major leagues. It gives Jaun Pierre an ISO above .10 because he can leg out XBHs. Baseball is uniquely able to be measured (as opposed to an offensive lineman's contribution). If you have no statistical basis for something in baseball, it's the Loch Ness Monster.
  20. After just one game? Tribune is too easy.
  21. Why do I feel like we are going to lose 13-12?
