  1. Someone should try to make like a...top 20 moments of some year like 2011 just to really appreciate we've got 40 moments left that all took place after the middle of October. I cannot think of one moment that I can definitively say is from the 2011 season. I'm sure that if I looked up the season on B-R there would be a number of games I'd say 'oh i remember that' but 2010 thru the first 2 months of 2014 is one giant blur to me. Once the Cubs started going on that winning streak in late June 2014, Shark was traded and there started to be rumors of Javy coming up, everything comes back into focus. Here are 3: June 2011: Jim Hendry drafts Javier Baez with 1st round pick. Theo Epstein notices and realizes that the Cubs finally "get it" August 2011: Jim Hendry is fired October 2011: Theo Epstein is named President of Baseball Operations and he names Jed Hoyer as GM I will never forget Starlin's debut, even though that was 2010. His ascent was so rapid - crushing the AFL, then AA, and suddenly he's rushed to the Majors and hits a 3 run bomb and a bases clearing double... in his first 2 AB, IIRC. Also memorable was the Rizzo-Chapman standoff.
  2. Keith Law. Definitely way in the know. Isn't he a pretty notorious Cubs hater or am I confusing him with someone else? I don't claim to know anything about a baseball swing but didn't Derrek Lee make the same adjustment that Heyward is trying to make now? He's not a hater but he doesn't mind telling overzealous Cub fans that they're wishing on the highest star in regards to their hopes for certain prospects... and he usually does it in the most abrasive way he can.
  3. Keith Law. Definitely way in the know.
  4. Might be able to snag something decent after TC cuts
  5. Really, really worried about Long. That shoulder clearly affected him and he's not getting surgery on it as he rehabs his ankle. If we get the same or a worse version then we got last year that horsefeathering sucks. The line, as far as our team is concerned, is a strength. But the tackles are clear weaknesses and we need to build depth there sorely. I expect Pace to add a few players there and create competition. Letting Alshon go is fine. The team needs more quick, shifty guys, IMO, that can create separation. Alshon with a guy like Cutler makes sense because Jay can (and loves to try to) throw him open. But I don't think we're going in that direction. On top of this, he'll be 28, doesn't inspire confidence that he can be relied on every week, and, which is a small concern but real nonetheless, is a suspension away from losing 10 games IIRC. He's just not a guy I think you invest in into his 30's. I get that we have very little at that position behind him but it is one of the easiest positions to fill and find players. I mean I know it's the extreme outlier of all but look at who Brady throws to. Get more dynamic players that cause havoc underneath.
  6. Absolutely crazy how Baez caught that tailing throw
  7. Unbelievable transfer and throw from Ross. Seriously it can't be done any quicker.
  8. Didn't KATOH love Taylor Davis last year or am I thinking of another system?
  9. Maddon gushed about Hannemann, saying he's dripping in talent. My biggest gripe with him has always been his age (and experience prior to the draft) but there have been plenty of late bloomers over the years so I'm not going to write him off yet. Hopefully he takes off at Iowa and becomes a coveted trade piece.
  10. Probably shouldn't have read that in public...
  11. I call them - Devastator
  12. I see him getting about 100 at 2B and more of the Heyward in CF, Zo in RF, than people are expecting. His defensive value is just astronomical at 2B.
  13. I like Dewees, I'll be interested in seeing what he becomes. Can anyone tell me a little about Mills? From Stat scouting he definitely controls the strikezone but I don't know much about his stuff.
  14. Just thinking about what Baez did to the MWL at 20 y/o
  15. They expect us to allow 120 more runs than last year. I get that we should expect regression given how much distance was between our advanced stats and actual results but I think the FO has done a great job of pairing gb and weak contact guys with the most efficient defense ever fielded. Sure we downgrade a little in the OF but not enough to regress that harshly. Then take into account that we get Schwarber, Willy, and almost certainly an improved Heyward, I think their projection is a pile of horsefeathers.
  16. Law said he was at least a 2. That's ridiculous praise.
  17. Statistically speaking this dude has only had a tiny flash of very good in his pro career but if anybody can wring some quality out of him it will be Bos.
  18. Great job by the Cards to sign Fowler, I guess.
  19. I didn't get to go to the ASG @ Wrigley in '90 but I did get the souvenir bat that was given to the first 500 in attendance. Despite living about an hour from Chicago at the time, I found one on the side of the road in my city a couple days after the game. Walking home from school, it was just laying there in the dirt. Really weird. Hopefully when Wrigley does host, the HRD has more dongs than there was in '90 (5 total)
  20. If you told me in 85 that the Pats would make 8 more Super Bowls in the next 30 years and the Bears would make 1...
  21. KB says he's gonna start incorporating his usual flair for oppo blasts into his game this year. I'll take some 300/400/600 seasons
  22. Double post
