He's a FA after this year. The Cubs will let him walk. If Caratini isn't traded, he'll probably get a look this September and could be the backup next year. Or they'll sign a reasonably priced defense-first back up catcher free agent. Don't really think that's a position of concern. I had forgotten where I posted that But anyway I was basically wondering if they should DFA him. But I didn't really expect them to do it.
Much better game for Kyle 2-4 K 2 RBI Caratini continues to mash. Hitting 343 after a 3-4 night with a couple doubles Hannemann... He's been pretty good (or lucky?) so far at Iowa. 2-4 2B SB (9-9 on season). I can see Joe salivating at adding that element to the team and I can also see him included in a trade package. Also Zach Short went 3-3 in his Myrtle debut. That's like, more hits than he had all month at SB.
Montero is a real issue. I don't think he should be behind the dish much anymore. I doubt they'd dump him this year and I value his glove/framing and mentorship of Contreras but he's borderline unplayable at the Catcher position.
I fail to see why the Giants would be interested in trading him. Well, FWIW, their GM named only Bum, Posey, and Crawford as their "true untouchables".
did he almost throw it away? mlb.tv wasn't working, so i was watching on gameday. it said "swinging strike (blocked)" and then took forever to update to final. it was terrifying I think it was a 98 mph sinker at the shoe tops
Speaking of that I joined a league recently and half of my team hasn't played baseball in 15-30 years. It's high-arc and they pile up the Ks. It's pretty brutal to be a part of.
