  1. Cubs Insider suggested Kyle might want to change the approach and start swinging first pitch. That was a case where I would agree.
  2. Zo scratched due to a stiff neck but is available Joe says he hasn't heard anything positive in regards to Addi coming back anytime soon
  3. Stanton just ripped his 22nd HR in his last 34 games
  4. My concern is that his wrist injury that hasn't fully recovered is the reason for all of this. Then again, i guess if Joe thought the wrist was an issue he wouldnt keep putting him at cleanup, would he? Yeah I'm the one who created the thread concerning his wrist injury sinking his season, so surely I am right there with you. It's just that, with Joe, unless Zobrist voluntarily shuts himself down, he's gonna play him and rely on his "professional ABs" and such in the middle of the lineup. It sucks and it's annoying. But it's just something that you have to live with, with Joe as the Manager, unfortunately.
  5. Joe kept a hitter with a 280 wOBA in the 1 or 2 spot for 2 solid months so this really shouldn't surprise anybody. He sticks with his guys through the ups and downs.
  6. I feel like he gets out-of-sorts after he pulls a massive dong. He pulled a long HR against the Cards on 7/23. Before that HR, since his recall, he had a 30% K rate and 70% contact. After that HR those numbers have exploded to 47% and 58%. Extremely small samples, granted. His message from the Cubs braintrust was pretty simple: quick to the pitch, stay through it, and stay up the middle or to the left. He's really not doing any of those things lately.
  7. Kyle Long at Bears practice, presumably still steaming over Charlottesville or something
  8. We picked up Aguayo Randle IR'd
  9. The division isn't as bad as the records make it seem, actually. The Reds, Cubs, and Cardinals rank in the top 10 for position player WAR, the Brewers are 16th and the Pirates are 22nd The Cardinals, Pirates, and Brewers have top 10 rotations, we are 16th (though 7th in the 2nd half), and the Reds are dead last The Cardinals, Cubs, and Brewers are just outside of the top 10 for reliever WAR and the Pirates are 18th, while the Reds are awful again So yeah the Reds have awful pitching but these are very talented teams
  10. http://www.chicagonow.com/cubs-den/2017/08/daily-cubs-minors-recap-underwood-records-best-start-of-career-miller-does-likewise-little-with-four-shutout/
  11. Special kind of stupid here
  12. Avila got dirt in his eye from a ball that hit the opposite batters box
  13. Javy stopped twice and beat it by a mile still
  14. Hey Wilson pitched a scoreless outing haha Man he's been terrible. No words.
  15. From his comments on it, he has no plans to slide him down the pecking order
  16. Rich Hill just squared to bunt and took a Clayton Richard fastball to the throat
  17. A month old and with Tennessee but here's video of Maples Stuff looks really good
  18. I mean he's pitched 4 innings. Sure they were not good at all but they are 4 innings. He had a 12 K9 with Detroit. And that was only in 40 innings, which is kinda a small sample size with the fungibility of relief pitchers and his historical performance. The previous 4 years he's been in the 9s for K/9 in 3 of those years and 7s for one of those years (though he is/was upward trending) spanning ~250 innings and he's in the 9s overall for his career. Fair point but as he explained in the recent interview with him he developed his curve this year to help keep hitters off the fastball. It's not a great pitch but if it can disrupt timing then his fastball has a better chance of missing bats and that's what had happened in those 40 innings. So the scales should tip in the other direction soon I hope.
  19. I don't get that, other than he throws fast. He has no command/control of the FB and it doesn't seem to have a lot of movement and none of his secondary stuff seems great that he can get guys off the FB. I'm very disappointed in him with the eye test so far, the results speak for themselves, but just watching him pitch his stuff just doesn't inspire much confidence. I mean he's pitched 4 innings. Sure they were not good at all but they are 4 innings. He had a 12 K9 with Detroit.
