  1. Yeah that's not what I said though. Maybe I'm not reading the situation correctly but isn't xFIP basically saying, wait a minute, his HRs should be higher given all the flyballs he's allowed? I'm basically saying his HR/FB% is getting back into vintage Jake range (7% in 2nd half and 2% in August) so that's not some random fluke or anomaly. His HR suppression was one of his signatures during his peak. Yeah, xFIP is a pretty bad stat. And it is even worse in this era, when the ball is flying out of the park, since the ability to suppress home runs is even more important. Just because a stat is better than ERA, on the whole, doesn't mean it's actually a good stat. And we have a ton of data showing that certain pitchers are able to limit exit velocity, and that limiting exit velocity limits home runs. So for Dave Cameron to randomly throw that and only that out when he horsefeathering writes at Fangraphs is pretty dumb. How did he actually do with xwoba this month? Interesting to note that by strictly batted ball data for this season he induced his lowest amount of soft contact this month, but line drives (nebulous stat) were way down, and he did not allow hitters to pull him much. I was surprised to see his GB% hasn't increased much in the 2nd half.
  2. If Russell hadn't gotten hurt I believe we would have had 6 under 25 with 20 and that's a record that would be nearly impossible to break. As more teams try to replicate the Cubs Way and if the HR keep exploding league wide something tells me within the next few years there will be another team with 5.
  3. The Score reports an unknown team tried to claim Cozart and the Reds pulled him back Gotta be us or the Cards. Although I don't know what his compensation would look like if they let him walk. I just can't see why they wouldn't trade him.

  5. His HR/FB% might seem out of whack, xFIP, but that's vintage Jake, so suck it
  6. He horsefeathering told the world this was coming and he just flipped the switch almost immediately. I really feel like he's gonna throw a 3rd no hitter before the year is up. Probably in the World Series. How many teams do you guys think would offer him 6+ years?
  7. Amazingly, Koji's 2nd half FIP is only a small bit worse than Wade Davis'
  8. Well, that's great news about Floyd. I saw some freak-out speculation that he could have sustained a broken bone in his foot. But I hate seeing that about Eddie.
  9. Random note but it's a goody KB has a 13% K rate in 25 August games while slashing 330/440/560 His K rate is something that I figured would drop significantly once he had more exposure to the pitchers and experience in the league, but he's looking like he could actually get into Rizzo territory, which is nucking futs. For the 2nd half he's at 15 and Rizz is at 17. *cue the low leverage talks
  10. I'd also like to see Carasiti and Hancock maybe. Koji and Rondon have been total horsefeathers lately and we might as well give Joe options aplenty. I expect Hannemann to be the late-inning PR or CF for sure.
  11. Really wanted to keep the 100 win/year pace of the Maddon era but I'll take 91 wins just fine Just do not let 04 reoccur
  12. you better turn out better than we got the whole 9 did with justin wilson on this [emoji28] He's coming around. I'm gonna have to wear that one though.
  13. I find it odd that anyone would think getting worked up over a team not scoring at all for just shy of FIVE COMPLETE GAMES would be "meatballery." I mean, there's meatballin', and then there's recognizing that that would be a flat out horrendous stretch of offense, especially for a team like the Cubs. This is what the Royals are doing. They haven't scored since the 2nd inning on Thursday. I suppose no take would be too hot, short of a Bryzzo demotion or something, if we ever experienced that.
  14. So, would everybody here be able to withhold the meatballery if we went 43 innings without scoring?
  15. What a horsefeathering gangster Monty has been filling in for Lestah
  16. This is basically the crusade that he's on
  17. On PSD we have a poster advocating for Tommy to get some run at RF to keep his bat in the lineup. I'm dead serious.
  18. Love how he made sure that the camera would catch it first
  19. Uh, alright then. I don't know how my post was meatball-y or trolling. Again, the general consensus outside of Bears fans seems to be the Bears didn't need to trade up. That doesn't somehow negate things if Trubisky pans out; good for them if he does. But it just seems silly that people are trying to force this narrative that Pace was working some kind of multi-dimensional chess strategy while everyone else was playing checkers; the guy was likely only competing against himself. It can just turn out to be a good pick that he made some goofy, unnecessary moves to pull off; it's not like any success Trubsiky has is tainted by that. We probably weren't the only team vying for the 2 and the actual price we paid to get the universally accepted best QB in the draft was a lot lower than teams in recent past had to spend. Right now it looks like a game changer, if you will.
