  1. How gassed was he? If AGon makes that play Prior completes 8 innings of 1-run ball. If anything I think the Marlins just had enough looks at him but the dam didn't break until the chaos and the ensuing error.
  2. It's a tie game though, the pen is going to get ground into dust tonight
  3. Really solid outing. Just lost it for a few batters but really good overall.
  4. He still abused a 21 year old kid for the sake of getting to the World Series. It's what every Manager did back then. AGon screwed the pooch.
  5. His swing looks like horsefeathers. Seems like he's too far out in front frequently.
  6. Umps are so bad Brown dotted that corner and shouldn't have needed a second opinion. Nice pitch for the K
  7. Maybe I have him mixed up with someone else? What a cherry that would be for Jawkins.
  8. Just a monster run. Too bad we can't get a pick because ROY seems plausible with his skill set.
  9. Hmm, no mention of 21 year old Josh Beckett throwing 115 higher-stress pitches in do-or-die mode game 5?
  10. Again with the oblique?
  11. So true and it's frustrating.
  12. The top 30 in xwoba is hilarious. Somehow Jonathan India sits in 23rd with a 410. Yet his wRC+ is 89. That's some horsefeathers.
  13. I think he could be a 130+ bat over a full season. In a couple years he's gonna be one of the best hitters in the game. It's looking like a really good gamble by Jed.
  14. I alluded to it in the game thread but I think when you make these approach changes, it can be difficult to still actually hit. Your whole sense of timing needs recalibration because you are consciously trying to make those better decisions and not be so impulsive. I think in due time, probably a short period, he will see this adjustment pay off in a major way. I don't see any reason he cant be more of a 110-120 guy if he cuts out those swings on "pitchers strikes" that often lead to easy outs, and focuses more on getting a pitch he can do damage against and putting it on a line. He should almost never hit a ball with a high launch angle because they almost always turn into cans of corn. i'm hoping he finds a comfortable place to cut the GB and up the LD%.
  15. That pitch was gonna go over the backstop lol
  16. Non-Cubs related, William Contreras currently has a 418 xwoba with a 3.6 (!) Launch Angle. This is insane. His hard-hit rate is just a shade under 75%. He has a 99.8 EV in 29 events. Bobby Witt Jr is at 99.5 in 33 events and has a 528 xwoba.
  17. The Cubs have only attempted 4 steals and were successful just twice. The defense is 6th worst in MLB, which - early SS - but, that has been surprising, even if Morel is largely the culprit. None of the regulars have been particularly good, even Nico and Swanson are middle-of-the-pack at their respective positions. Nico is 10th in walk rate, tied with Happ. He needs just 41 walks in the last 150 games to set a new career-high. His approach is not really paying off yet, but I'd like to see him stick to it, draw 75+ walks. That would be great and likely set a new career-high in OBP and wRC+, because he wont hit 150 all year. Morel still has a 10% K rate and his improvement in plate discipline has been loud and clear. Pitch Info has him with a 15% chase rate - WHAT?!?!?!?! This is too early to go overboard on but this is Ronald Acuna 2023 type of improvement - a 60% Zswing-Oswing, gotdamn. And still hitting the piss out of the ball with a 91 EV.
  18. 50 walks would set a career high and he's on pace for like 130. I think he's in an in-between phase of his approach right now, still trying to figure things out. His timing is likely off because he's trying to be more discerning and not just hacking away, he's letting the pitches get deeper.
  19. Way to bounce back with a dominant win
