  1. That would take more of the ammo cache from Jed I'm sure
  2. I don't think a single person has intimated that he is a ready-made All-Star the way we did with Bryant. I only posted on PSD back then but there was definitely a large contingent of fans there that didn't believe the bust talk and thought we had a potential ROY, possible 5 war player. Again, the narrative around Shaw here has been, he's probably ready, needs a little protection, has some flaws that the MLB will expose, and will have some lumps. Nobody is screaming that this guy has nothing left to prove aside from the other guy getting chided in this thread today. The hype has been nothing like KBs.
  3. Those loses to the Redskins were horsefeathers brutal. Definitely still had a SB defense but they just had no offense left.
  4. Was thinking the same. They struggle sv LH, especially the funky slot ones.
  5. I feel like the amount of available impact players on Tucker's level is very small, and the target needs to be at that level for Jed to consider Shaw. The amount of good 3B in the league is very small also. So if I were trading Paredes, then I would hold onto Shaw tightly as well, because the alternative options are not attractive and Smith probably needs a year at least and there's not enough pro data on him yet. So yeah, to me, if he didn't move him for Crochet he probably doesn't want to trade for Tucker or anybody. Paredes is an arb-eligible starter controlled for 3 years and not 1 and who will make less than half of that guy that they have no expectation apparently of resigning. That makes sense to me. If I say, it looks like the Cubs are ready to run with Shaw, to noone in particular, just throwing an opinion out there, that is condescending? Condescending to me is when someone quotes my post and in the last couple lines basically says "sheesh Cubs fans". Like talking down to someone as if they don't know what they are talking about. I don't believe there would be many posters here who feel like I do that.
  6. Nobody has really KB'd Shaw, first off. He has received nowhere near the hype KB had and the posts around him have not annointed him a can't-miss star prospect either; in fact I would argue that his visible warts have been brought up and I think the expectation for him if he were to start with the club are fairly lukewarm. At least from my perspective. I believe he can start right away and be about a 2 win player with plenty of room to grow. I'm very interested in seeing what kind of value he provides outside of the bat as well. I do believe that Jed would love to run with Paredes cheap production for a few years but I also believe 2 things: 1) He realizes that HOU was #2 on him and he wants Tucker badly, 2) He saw the dip in production and the xstats and feels like the fit might not be there. Stop being so condescending.
  7. God I hope it isn't the Polar Bear
  8. Well, it sure seems like they are ready to run with Shaw. They will have $ for a significant pitching upgrade. If PCA keeps playing at a 4-5 WAR pace, and the Catcher position isn't a black hole, then that should be a substantial increase. I feel like Paredes has a high probability to underperform projections as well because of Wrigley. Plus this opens some room for the kids to get integrated. I think it's possible Brown is holding out for Smith while Jed is trying to get him to take Alcantara or Caissie. It sure seems like Shaw is untouchable in Jed's eyes.
  9. Maybe, just maybe, Tom doesn't actually care about the contract lengths. He has a budget he expects his FO to operate by and he knows the team is a cash cow. If it comes down to it, he trusts that the FO can move a contract if needed. Tom seems very much a hands-off owner now. Jed can do practically whetever he wants with that budget, and both parties have repeatedly said the money is there.
  10. Shoot more 3s than ever, hit em at 15% better than career with 32/13/10 LOL
  11. Man that is a hard trigger to pull. I really don't like that package for 1 year, it's insane.
  12. If Boston gets Burnes that rotation is disgusting.
  13. Most guys at this talent level just won't make it to FA anymore so you have to take your shot when you have it. Like cuzi said, they already missed the boat on Betts (one of the biggest robberies of all-time and could have really kept us in the upper echeleon if we made that trade instead), Harper, Seager, Ohtani, Soto, etc.. These shots are drying up, teams are really good at extending early. He's young, dynamic, and has a skillset that doesn't need any protection. Make it happen, Jed.
  14. Well FWIW maybe it gives the team the boost needed to swing the division. And if they suck he can recoup a lot at the deadline. We just saw it happen with Cease didnt we?
  15. I'm prepared for this to hurt a lot but this is Jed's last shot at a real impact franchise player and he's gotta get it done. Paredes Caissie Smith Whoever Biggest haul in MLB trades in quite a while. Mostly because Paredes is hard to gauge. His profile doesn't sit well with me in Wrigley though.
  16. They very well might get Smith. The Cubs can't protect everyone.
  17. I said it before if the Yanks win this race they will likely do it with a surprising package. They have some other intriguing ML talent they could offer and just dip back into FA to backfill.
  18. Now, there's really no other way to interpret the Seiya and Paredes part there, other than they want both. You would think by now there would be a OR delineation. What the horsefeathers Astros?
  19. He needs to get uncomfortable
  20. They rarely make a R5 pickn so that's sort of interesting
  21. If the Astros say they won't do it without him then Happy Gilmore's caddy can start looking for houses in Houston
  22. Man I make that trade all day.
  23. Hard not to be enthralled right now. If Jed turned Morel and Bigge into the lead piece for Tucker that's a nice feather in the cap.
  24. It's crazy how little we got for an expiring 3-time 7 WAR player who had bounced back from a disastrous pandemic campaign
  25. Giants and Phillies in the mix too. That would be quite impressive if the Giants landed him and Adames in the same offseason.
