  1. Derwood stays on the periphery and then pops in on the insiders like hes breaking news lol
  2. It feels like we have really good prospects ready to fill any spot as the contracts run out. Let's just say Triantos is not going anywhere. Happ - Caissie Seiya - Alcantara Nico - Triantos Amaya - Mo (If Amaya turns out to be middling) That's beautifully set up to extend Tucker and see how well the rest of your guys compliment him. Your entire offense would cost like 70-80M. Those players should bring comp picks or high trade return if it comes down to it. I really don't think the position player side should be much of any kind of issue. They will probably just draft a bunch of seniors then. For the pitching, they need to go hard over these next couple drafts on HS arms and they love the seniors and Friday Night pitchers, we know they will take those. I would be like 65/35 pitching to offense and then just keep pushing hard for IFAs.
  3. She might have changed her mind, maybe Jim said he was gonna call the shots, and maybe Poles is lying but I've read leaks that he has said Jim came to him wanting to interview for the job and Warren summarily shot it down.
  4. I also feel like we can trade like a Pedro Ramirez type prospect to a builder and get a pre-arb bench guy too. Jed just picked up 2 probable bench players in the last 5 months. Those were deliberate moves. I don't think he wants to allocate resources there. We'll see. We know Jed likes to leave some for the TDL. I just hope he makes the absolute most impactful moves for the roster that he can make. We can take the division by the throat again. There are several elite pitchers available right now, many without compensation attached, that he can add to supplement the last roster that he might build in Chicago. Get creative to add to the bench. Add as much premium pitching as you can. I've heard us lightly linked to Flaherty. I hope Jed gets involved with a performance-based complex deal. I think he has the most upside if we don't count Burnes, who he probably won't even sniff.
  5. Definitely agree and I understand the volatility of bullpens, have argued the same point for years. But the things is, we have the money, and each time we don't want to pay for it, we kind of pay for it in the end. Whether it's having to watch September meltdowns over and over, or having to send Gleyber Torres out for a guy they could have signed for free in the previous winter to finally roast the goat. Jed should horsefeathers pay for some RP who have several seasons of absolute dominance under their belt. They have a ton of position players making peanuts to round out the roster. The pitching is several steps behind. The Cubs are also aware that their pitching staff had a road ERA of 4.3 last season and Wrigley hadn't ever been so offensive-suppressive. They need to turn up the gas! They're still out here dicking around with funky, low velo guys. I'm sure the staff will be really effective. But give me the LH who chucks 99 and the grizzled vet with a decade of excellence that just posted a 1.17 ERA. Don't skimp on the rotation either. Push the chart down, get a (sorry) guy with a big freaking arm for once.
  6. One hedge I wouldn't mind taking is throwing 2-3M at Madrigal when his market proves elusive. One of the worst players to have ever watched as a Cubs fan esthetically still put up 1.7 with his surprising versatility.
  7. The pen lacking legit lethal weapons has kind of been the bugaboo for the last 5 years, more than the bench. I can spend 20 easy on 2 RP and I'm not sacrificing the quality of the SP I get so I can go from Mastrobuoni to like Chris Coghlan. Spend that horsefeathers on Scott and Yates, build a powerful bullpen. They're way more lethal and instrumental to team success these days to the guys getting 150 PA. Ideally for me: Blow it all on Burnes and hope you can squeeze a guy like Minter in with a backloaded 2 year deal. Get Flaherty (who's market has skepticism due to 5 years of suckage and bad postseason numbers, but who offers the most upside not attached to a QO - may end up signing for 20 AAV reading the tea leaves) and Scott. Trade for Castillo/Lopez/et al and add Minter and Yates Sign Hoffman to convert and add Scott and Yates I'll spoon Jed after that.
  8. Cubs have enough George Clinton. They need some Bruce Dickinson.
  9. We would be balling if we had Harbaugh. Warren needs to go. Letting personal differences get in the way of what is best for the team is inexcusable. He does not deserve to make this hire. I want Lex Luthor from Amazon to make this call more than him.
  10. Damn we won in Boston with their whole squad healthy? Was that Ayo on Holiday all night? Jrue's line was brutal. Zach had a killer game. Vuc is almost shooting 50% from 3. Those 2 have elite efficiency this year and damn near every team should be on them. You really care if your C plays defense if he's putting up a 70% TS? How about an explosive guard who can shoot the lights out but gets lazy and clumsy at times? Y'all can take those salaries. Let's get some good offers, we need 1s.
  11. Good thing they only need to be bench players then. We have plenty of offense, we don't need to spend precious dollars on the bench, especially when we have 5 more top 100 prospects in Iowa and big needs in the pen and rotation. They have a backup C, a lefty masher that can cover all 3 OF spots if needed, and 2 guys who can spell all over the IF. Those guys aren't spring chickens and they've been productive prospects that project to be around 85 wRC+. I'd be fine if they traded for one but not at a 7M price tag.
  12. We had 4 unproven players carry us to the NLCS once
  13. Again I hope they don't spend big on the bench. I hate the idea. There's so many prospects that we need to start integrating this year. Buy 2 of the best pen arms you can get for 20, give 20 to a SP and call it a winter.
  14. That's actually pretty amazing. We don't need to think so rigidly. You can find amazing value this way.
  15. I didn't realize Pablo is so young. I'd far prefer him to Castillo.
  16. Never gave a horsefeathers. That man was the only reason to watch after Kerry lost it until 2003. 292 HR in a 5-year span will never be topped. Let's not forget that he was 30-30 twice and 20-20 twice before the steroids. 2004 was ugly but that season broke all of us and closed the chapter on one of the most exciting times we had as fans. Gonna watch a reel now. And those bombs he hit off the Marlins were insane. I can't imagine what it was like living in the neighborhood at that time.
  17. The thing that has always jumped out to me with Shaw is the oppo% and I believe he will have to adjust. KB was an oppo monster in MiLB and almost completely removed it from his game in 2016 and intermittently found success thereafter. He likely found it more difficult to let the pitch travel against big leaguers, but Wrigley's preposterously deep RF and inviting LCF surely had something to do with it. I'm sure teams are gonna challenge the hell out of him to pull fly balls. Javy and Sammy hit a lot of oppo homers but there weren't many that had consistent success doing so. The Cubs are gonna hammer him with the league success of pull/oppo and we will see if his rates normalize a little more in MLB. The MLB hitter he reminds me of is Matt McClain. He obviously had a lot of success in his one year, so we will see.
  18. I agree and feel like they will all take 1 or 2 year deals. Right up Jed's alley. I think Minter and Yates would be absolutely insane and give us the best pen we've ever had.
  19. I shouted this pretty much all year but his floor is that high. Just hope his reckless abandon doesn't send him on lengthy IL stints.
  20. I don't really know their roster but there's not a bench player worth talking about?
  21. Had an article pop up on my feed saying the Yankees should trade for Tristan McKenzie and I'm low-key hoping Carter beats em to the punch, but maybe there won't be room for him.
  22. They probably insisted on Caissie or Alcantara and he's not worth that coming off of the season he had and the questions of his health.
  23. If PCA goes down do they use Tucker in CF or just call up Alcantara?
  24. Wow feels a bit like 16-17 again. If PCA hits, look out.
