  1. The Hawk doesn't make your list? For me it would be: Dawson Blyleven Smith Alomar Larkin
  2. 2030 hits in a decade is just an amazing accomplishment. I love watching Ichiro play.
  3. Strange code of conduct. No obscene gestures I understand, but no public displays of affection? Apparently a guy can be kicked out for kissing his chick after a homerun.
  4. After the Deadbirds sweep, the season is not totally meaningless for Cub fans. http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z262/jiml60/DeadCardinal.jpg I'm onboard with this. Seeing Holiday get nut-punched with that ball was one of the great moments of my life. It's wonderful to see the team I hate more than anything else in this world get mud-stomped.
  5. Sorry TT. I've been a Husker fan my entire life and loved the outcome, but I imagine you feel about how I felt a couple of weeks ago when we crapped the bed against Virginia Tech. To so dominate a game for 3 quarters and then just douche it away is a feeling hundreds of times worse than just getting demolished. Good luck to your Tigers for the remainder of the season.
  6. I wondered the same thing. i thought Joshua did a pretty solid job, given the excrement he was given to work with.
  7. What is all this nonsense of picking a team to cheer for during the postseason? Once the Cubs were eliminated, my life was over until next season. No other team deserves me cheering for them.
  8. They are likely to win the World Series again to put the exclamation point on this waste of a season. 2 championships in 4 years and we can't even sniff the 2nd round of the playoffs. Life blows.
  9. He's just misunderstood ... Getting rid of Derosa to get Milton was one of the most brilliant moves made by any GM in the history of baseball. Period.
  10. Have never and will never switch allegiances. I've endured too much and see too many ups and too many more downs to consider it. I did in my youth at one point decide I was going to quit being a Cubs fan, but my mother reminded me that I need to be loyal to my team. Looking back, I would have missed a lot of miserable moments had I stayed the course, but I also would have missed ever seeing them in the playoffs again after the magical year of '89 (this would have been when they let Maddux walk.)
  11. Thanks Wrong Sider and Roast. I assumed it was some kind of foundation. I lost my grandmother to leukemia, so any group dedicated to the research and prevention of that horrible disease is one I support wholeheartedly.
  12. Fox's slam was one of the best moments I've ever had at Wrigley, right up there with the Karros homerun off Roger Clemens in the 2003 Wood-Clemens 20/20 game and seeing Sandberg's flag raised during the retirement of his number (thank you Stuy for inviting me along for that momentous occasion!)
  13. I was at Wrigley on Saturday and noticed an entire section of fans in the left-center field bleachers with green shirts. Can anybody tell me what this was all about? Thanks.
  14. The teams you cite have such little payroll flexibility that we would have to pick up at least 90% of the contract. Probably closer to the full 100%. At that point, the albatross is still on our back.
  15. I came into the season bitter about an atrocious off-season, and surprisingly my bitterness is even worse now. I didn't think that would be possible.
  16. The GM makes the roster moves. A manager can 'want' anything, but it's the GM's job to put the right personnel on the field. I know you already know this, just sending a reminder.
  17. I think MLB should realize the misery of being a Cubs fan and schedule the remainder of our games against the Pirates and Nationals at Wrigley field and the remainder of the Cardinals games against the Dodgers and Phillies travelling back and forth every three days. We'd probably still lose the division, but it would make us competitive.
  18. The break definitely helped with getting his velocity back to 93-95. In Florida, he was 89-92. However, if he gets into a predictable count or doesn't locate, he's way too hittable because there is no movement. It's reminiscent of Farnsworth minus 3 or 4 mph. He also isn't a muscle-bound, punch-throwing, testosterone junky who slags random sluts at the bar. With this in mind, his value is diminished because the only jokes I can make about him are baseball-related.
  19. I dunno; a pinup of Ricketts in the clubhouse just wouldn't be the same. On the other hand, Wild Thing would have to be an improvement at closer. We could use a spiritual player on good terms with a deity as well. Think Cerrano is available to sacrifice some goats?
  20. I notice nobody gave Gregg credit for his outstanding contribution in today's game. Where would we be without his ability to hold a 15-run lead?
  21. badnews, I mean this in the kindest way possible. I've read this post seven times now, and still am not clear what the point of it is. If your intention is to say that as fans we are pleased when we beat the piss out of weak opponents and get owned by 'real teams', I think you're wrong. If your intention is to say that as fans we are pleased just sneaking into the postseason to get a taste of it, again I think you're wrong. So, without further ado, what exactly are you trying to say?
  22. Plan for the 2010 Cubs - not win the World Series. That's about the only plan we have been able to pull off successfully and consistently as an organization for the past hundred plus years.
  23. Not the Bears, but I am looking forward to Husker football season. Can't be worse than this bleeping mess.
  24. I hate this bleep-bleep, mother-bleeping, bleepity-bleep-bleep team and can't wait for this season to be over with.
  25. I hate it when I'm right.
