  1. He did indeed say that other word for "poop" in the postgame interview lol. Great job Heyward. He looks completely different this year.
  2. [tweet] [/tweet][tweet] [/tweet]Seems like a mixture of boos and light applause -- it should be all boos and cursewords out there.
  3. I read something about him on a random site just a few days ago. I guess he was playing in Italy until recently. During Spring Training, MLB prospects played some sort of expo game vs. Team Italy. They liked what they saw from him with the bat and the glove, and inked him. Cool. Thanks for sharing that. I wonder why he was playing in Italy? Much better leagues that pay more with a chance to be seen by scouts. No one scouts baseball players playing in Italy lol.
  4. Michael Busch's swing (slo-mo): [bbvideo=853,480]https://www.instagram.com/p/BwAHFyAgyzp/[/bbvideo] Braden Shewmake's swing (slo-mo): [bbvideo=853,480]https://www.instagram.com/p/Bwrf7cOALp9/[/bbvideo] This is from Fangraphs' official Instagram account. Lots of good video of prospects on there. So definitely different swings for these two players, but they're both productive hitters. Shewmake looks a little bit goofy in his swing, but the dude hits for a good average and rarely strikes out. Busch has the superior swing (and way more power) and you can see the difference.
  5. [tweet]https://twitter.com/keithlaw/status/1125864652997627904[/tweet] [tweet]https://twitter.com/keithlaw/status/1125865538918453248[/tweet] I agree with all that, but I'd place automated ball/strike calls (and more oversight and accountability on umps) higher on the list. Allow for the full trading of draft picks like other sports and get rid of service time manipulation of young players/prospects. Maybe institute penalties for teams that are clearly tanking and suck consecutive years in a row. Also, I'd probably shorten the season to 154 games to allow more off days and make the NLDS a best-of-seven game series.
  6. [tweet] [/tweet][tweet] [/tweet]Pretty nasty curveball from LHP Mason Feole. That delivery makes me think he'll probably end up being a reliever, but potentially a very good one.
  7. [tweet] [/tweet]Found this on Nico's twitter account. It's cool, but it also raises a lot of questions...
  8. [tweet] [/tweet] Great hire by the Marlins lol. This douchebag seems perfectly suited to work with Jeter. I hope the Marlins suck for a long time.
  9. Huh, I know nothing about Robel Garcia. Is he a real prospect? I went on baseball-reference.com to look up his stats and there's this weird gap from 2013 to the present season. Seems too old to be considered a serious prospect, but he's raking at AA.
  10. From Keith Law's first 2019 MLB mock draft: This is a solid choice and a really good bat. I don't believe he'll fall this far in the first round. Some scouts think he has a small chance to play LF (probably will be below-average defensively there). Keith Law was wrong about Schwarber and his chances of playing LF so I wouldn't take his word as definitive. He's ranked 28th on MLB.com's list and 19th on Fangraphs' draft board. From MLB.com's draft list:
  11. [tweet] [/tweet]Pepiot is ranked #86 on Fangraphs' draft board and is ranked somewhere in Keith Law's Top 50 MLB draft prospects list. He's ranked 46th on MLB.com's list. Might be an interesting target in the 2nd/3rd round area if he's still available. There is a writeup on Ryan Pepiot over at Fangraphs for people interested in him. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/prospect-dispatch-a-queens-doubleheader/
  12. Great company to be with. That time he got the first 18 right was so wild. I noticed there was no Jack Leiter in the first round. With his signability, Arizona is probably the only team that has a chance with him. In my mock draft I have Atlanta taking Jack Leiter since they have two picks in the first round. If they take someone underslot or sign them to an underslot deal with the other pick they might have enough to sign Leiter. I agree -- it's going to be either Atlanta or Arizona. I really hope the Cubs take Braden Shewmake if he's available. I have faith in the Cubs' player development staff to improve advanced hitters. I think his defensive abilities are underrated and that he can stick at SS also.
  13. [tweet] [/tweet][tweet] [/tweet][tweet] [/tweet][tweet] [/tweet][tweet] [/tweet]Great job today from The Professor.
  14. [tweet] [/tweet]I like how Jim Callis and I think alike sometimes...
  15. [tweet] [/tweet] [bbvideo=853,480] [/bbvideo]Interesting pitcher with a good clean delivery. Great build and physicality with maybe some slight room to fill out and get stronger. Listed as 6'4" and 200 lbs. Already has a good fastball and an improving breaking ball. His situation is unique and I remember reading about him in last year's draft. He's a senior now so he has less leverage and should be signable at a reasonable amount. Seniors usually have to sign for less than slot because they're older and can't go back to school. He might make a good target in the later rounds. On talent, he should go somewhere in the 2nd/3rd round area. His situation kinda sucks, but pitchers lose development time to injury and suffer setbacks often so getting a late start to his career doesn't seem too bad in my mind. I like him and I hope our scouts do too.
  16. Seriously? We're talking about Dewees? If KC thought anything of him they wouldn't have traded him back to us for basically a non-prospect (Stephen Ridings) that I had to lookup just now lol. KC is rebuilding right now and wouldn't make this trade if they thought he was any good. He's nothing special and just part of our effort to bolster our depth at AA/AAA.
  17. [tweet] [/tweet] Great video and I feel for Willson. Pretty painful watching him cry in the clip. It's amazing that he's playing so well with everything happening in his home country. I really hope the situation improves in Venezuela and that Maduro steps down. 18. Okay, I know Hendry gets credit for "drafting" Javy under his watch just before he got fired, but I seriously doubt he did anything special or got highly involved. Hendry tries to brush off the Hayden Simpson debacle in the 2010 draft by saying he let his scouting director choose who he wanted. Christian Yelich was selected seven picks later at #23 by the Marlins. There was lots of good talent available. If Hendry tries to deflect criticism for the Hayden selection then he also doesn't deserve credit for drafting Javy. I'm trying to find the article or the quote, but I remember Hendry saying he basically let his scouting director do whatever he wanted (within the draft budget) under his tenure. I think all the credit (or most of the credit) goes to the previous scouting director Tim Wilken. He liked Javy Baez over Francisco Lindor and was super high on Baez. Hendry just went along with the selection and doesn't deserve that much credit IMO.
  19. He might end up being the best pitcher selected by the Cubs in the 2016 draft. Tyson Miller, Dakota Mekkes or maybe Matt Swarmer. I'm not that high on Hatch. Real shame they didn't sign their 14th round pick (RHP Parker Dunshee) that year. He's a solid prospect in the A's system.
  20. [tweet] [/tweet]Super impressive throw, but he also almost took his pitcher's head off. The pitcher is suppose to go into a proper crouch when the catcher rises to make the throw towards 2B. Not sure what the pitcher was thinking there...
