  1. [tweet] [/tweet]It seems like Mekkes is throwing harder and hitting 95 more consistently now. Great news if he can reach back and throw that hard. He's a big dude (6'7") and it always seemed like he should be able to reach mid-90s with the fastball. Hopefully the FB command has improved too. Throwing harder usually makes it more difficult to spot/locate and sometimes makes the FB straighter and easier to hit as well.
  2. [tweet] [/tweet]I would like the velocity on the FB to tick up a little higher and the the command of his pitches to improve before calling him up. Also, curious to see how he does after pitching two days in a row. There's no rush and I think the Cubs will take their time with him. We don't want a Greg Holland-type situation happening...
  3. A really crappy soft-tossing LHP the Cubs called up at the end of the season (2006). I barely remember him, but he pitched one gutsy game against the Astros. There's no shame in not remembering this guy lol.

  6. I think this is more or less a way to either try to extort Tampa for a new stadium or testing the waters for a potential move to Montreal. It's just a silly and ridiculous proposal that it can't be meant to be real. Yeah, I had the same thought. It's basically letting Tampa Bay/Ybor City officials know that if they don't fund or partially fund the construction of a new stadium they're bouncing for Montreal ASAP. I'd be happy with this move too. Florida sucks and Montreal deserves an MLB team. It's a great city.
  7. Makes sense, but seems like a risk worth taking at this point in the draft. I definitely agree. It's a gamble, but I'd do it. He's also super skinny and has a weird body type. Needs to add some good weight/muscle. Not a fan of Bol Bol. I don't really like the C the Bulls took in the 2nd round either, but hey, at least we didn't trade it for cash considerations this time.
  8. You guys can argue over how valuable Eloy will become and how much value he loses on defense and all that... I'll always like Eloy now because of this goofy gif that reminds me of Forrest Gump:
  9. I actually do not like the way this draft is setting up for the Bulls because GarPax suck at their jobs.
  10. [tweet] [/tweet] Someone finally mentioned Robel Garcia!
  11. [tweet] [/tweet]So if Matt Allan signs for $2.5 mil that's about 500K over what Ryan Jensen got from the Cubs. Jensen took an underslot deal so I'm guessing the Cubs offered Allan slot or slightly overslot at #27. So basically R. Jensen + DJ Herz ($500K bonus) vs. M. Allan... Honestly, there's a bunch of permutations for how to spend the pool money, like if the Cubs didn't take Ethan Hearn and pay him overslot they'd still be able to afford DJ Herz along with Matt Allan. I wouldn't have taken a pitcher period with the 1st round pick, but I do prefer the combo of Jensen + Herz over just taking (and paying) Allan that much. It'll be fascinating to see how this all plays out in a few years. ---- Last thing, someone whose name rhymes with "Mom" here please don't horsefeathering respond to my post (directly or indirectly) on why Matt Allan is a boss and why you like him over Jensen and blah blah blah.
  12. I don't think Hearns is getting $1 mil... I'm thinking $750K or a little bit more than that. Still disappointed with the pick, but even more so if he's truly getting that much. I think McAvene might get slightly more than $550K also.
  13. [tweet] [/tweet][tweet] [/tweet]Raisin already mentioned Nico and Amaya, but this pic shows all the prospects and how much they've risen/fallen. Pretty cool. Austin Riley will graduate off the list pretty soon. Brent Honeywell should be lower after suffering another bad injury unfortunately. Justus Sheffield is just awful right now and should be off the list completely IMO (really bad trade by SEA).
  14. This is the first Cubs-Sox game for me. I never realized how horsefeathering annoying Sox fans are until now. Score some damn runs. They wasted another good Hamels start.
  15. Damn, I'm at the game but I just got seated and missed the Schwarber bomb. Big ovation for Hamels just now. Pretty cool
  16. The Top 3 are always FL, TX and CA in producing baseball talent. That Illinois is sixth and only 7 picks behind Georgia is really impressive. It was a good draft year for Illinois.
  17. David Bote v2.0 is heating up...
  18. I get a bit confused with the wording in these things. Are they saying Miller is the best pitching prospect the Cubs have according to them? Or that he's just having the best season? I'm pretty sure they still regard Adbert Alzolay as the best pitching prospect in the Cubs system. It's definitely weird wording for sure. Usually, when a site or someone uses 'breakout' it's similar to like 'Most Improved'; it is possible for the player/pitcher to improve so much that they become the system's best player/pitcher. I don't think that's usually the case though. Anyway, I'd take Adbert Alzolay over Tyson Miller all day.
  19. He makes so many plays look easy at SS. Now we just need to get rid of the guy who keeps losing his damn bat whenever he swings.
  20. Yeah, what the horsefeathers, Tom. I don't know why you guys engage Tom... I'm pretty sure he's not racist, but that was terrible wording. I'm just going to ignore him and his posts going forward. I didn't even read the original post with the weird "ape" usage lol.
  21. I wish we had a prospect like this in our system. Another good two-way prospect.
