  1. I think its more so the timing of the injury and the money demands. How much is Baez going to cost? Baez is committed to a JUCO - I can't see him not signing, but who knows what the price will be. I wonder with how quickly Cashner has advanced and the TCU connection might help. I'd love Purke at #68. I mean, a bat like Baez w/ his upside, and Purke in the second round. Can't ask for much more than that. He missed out on what? $10M from Texas a few years ago. It's going to be hard to see him taking a ton less than that even with his injury concerns all things considered. Purke accepted a deal for $6M with the Rangers, but MLB didn't accept that cuz Rangers were bankrupt and came back with an offer of $4M... Purke went to TCU instead. I've heard something like $7.5M now for Purke, but all of these guys are asking INSANE amount of money anyway so it's not surprising.
  2. Wow... I hate the Red Sox. Matt Barnes and Blake Swihart??? I wish Cubs could pull off something like that...
  3. What about Matt Purke being the "shock the world" pick? It would be shocking to see him picked this high with his injury and all...
  4. If I was Rickett, I would ask Greg Maddux if he would seriously consider being a GM for the Cubs instead of "special assistant" or whatever the title is right now.
  5. You write off Vitters when he turns 25 and he's not in the majors yet... Which means he got another 3 year after his bday this August. The dude is "only" 21 and is in AA. He's been pretty bad? Outside of his lack of walks and probably defense, what else has he been "pretty bad" at? Not every or even most prospects are going to make it to the Majors at age 20-22. Say he makes it to the majors at age 24... That's still pretty young. Actually what is the average age of a player making their MLB debut? Just curious if anybody knows this. You're really going to talk about Hayden already when he got drafted not even a year ago? Let just wait to see the final numbers in his first year before saying anything. I would post here a lot more if there wasn't guys like you just spitting out negative crap like this post above. I'm not drinking the blue koolaid as I have say some negative stuff before (mainly Colvin and guys who really do deserve the negative comments- as I don't think Colvin is all that, but I think he would end up as a solid 4th OF/power bat on the bench type). I really wasn't expecting Colvin to do this bad, but I wasn't expecting what he did last year either. LOL at the minor league forums comment... you talk about the delusions of grandeur and drinking the blue koolaid, yet the minor league forum is what's good for these days??? They hype up pretty much everyone in the minors in that forum.
  6. I would put Rocco Baldelli in that group. He contributed in his first 3 years, but his health is what ended him eventually. Carl Crawford was a 2nd round pick, but I would consider him as well.
  7. I think his lack of mobility is also affecting him too. True... He makes Drew Bledsoe look like Michael Vick in terms of mobility. It's pretty bad. Then again, Mallett got an arm like Bledsoe's as well...
  8. jesus. Jimmy Clausen is God. prove me wrong. he looks more like an ostrich, i'd say. Emu is better.... http://www.outfandish.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/emu.jpg
  9. Hahaaha I picked Solder in the mock draft for the Patriots... LOL
  10. Honestly . . . I'm about to leave work and am going to the Arcade Fire/National concert tonight, so you might as well go ahead and make the pick. Sorry. Dude... you suck. I wanted to go to that concert. A bunch of my friends are going to it.
  11. This was the only time in Martz's coaching career where he did not raise his team's offensive ranking in his first year as coordinator. I think the Bears went from like 25th to 30th last year. Hahaha yeah... it's not like the Bears offense went from good to bad. It went from really bad to horrible.
  12. Bucs select Sam Acho, DE, Texas... With Clayborn and Acho at both DE spot and McCoy in between them, Bucs should have a good young foundation for their DL in their 4-3 defense for the next few years...
  13. Pit Beef??? LOL I wouldn't know as I'm from Indiana, but I've been to Baltimore twice and both times all I heard was their crabcakes and pit beef...
  14. The Pariots select Curtis Brown, CB, Texas. They need a little more depth/help at the CB on the other side of McCourty and is a insurance/replacement guy in case if Bodden gets hurt/leaves...
  15. Give me a few minutes here and I'll be making the pick for the Pats. Just want to make sure I didn't overlook anyone here.
  16. Welp... I'm not sure. My buddy that was helping me with the Pats is on vacation for 2 weeks. While I know the Pats well, but I'm not sure who to pick or which direction to go? So if anybody wanna help me out here, I appreciate it...
  17. I would say Castro more like Vlad/Tony Gwynn in the "hit bad pitches hard". I've never heard Pujols like that before or being a "bad ball hitter".
  18. full NTC Plus 10% stake in the Cubs ownership after retirement...
  19. Nice... I wish I can see STP again. I saw them 11 years ago and it was AMAZING!!! One of the best concerts I've been to (I've probably been to 30-40 concerts so far and I'm 26). Halfway through the show, Scott Weiland just got naked and wrapped himself with an American flag. Then he went on and finished the concert like that. Dude was messed up, but it was an amazing show.
  20. Or Mark Prior Really??? REALLY??? Not even close IMO. Before 2003, Patterson had 765 ABs and an OPS+ of 72. Cubs basically knew the potential is there, but he hasn't done SQUAT to warrant an extension or even the thought of one... Prior... well... There's a reason why there hasn't been a pitcher signed that early yet (not that I can think of- Strasburg and Prior both were getting their money anyway with their rookie deals).
  21. Hahaha... just give him what Tulo's first extension which was something like 6/31 or close to it? Add a couple option years on top of that deal. Also I would wait til after this year to see what his final numbers were and give him a deal then... Braun: 8/45 Tulo: 6/31 Longoria: 6/17 Wright: 6/55 Reyes: 4/23.25 Not sure who else had deals like those... Just something to compare.
  22. Soriano LF Jackson CF Byrd RF Let Fukudome back up all 3 position and let him start 3 games a week (one for each position) or something like that... Fukudome would still get a lot of ABs this way and everyone would be well rested throughout the season. Plus it let Colvin start everyday at AAA to work on his swing and whatnot. If they were to bring him up, I think this would be the smartest way to go, but he's only had 47 ABs. I agree he is absolutely, lights-out raking right now, but let the guy have 100 ABs at least before promoting him. That's about what Castro had last year in AA before being brought up. Yeah, I said instead of a Sept. callup, it'll be more like June 1st if hes still raking. Jackson will have quite a bit of ABs (not sure how many exactly) by then. I didn't say promote him now or even very soon. BUT if he's hitting like .340/.460/.570 (could be better than that possibly) at the end of May, then I would have to think you would call him up in June. This would also give enough time for Colvin to "bounce back" if he can... If not, send him to AAA. If he does start hitting again, then Byrd or Fukudome probably would have to be traded or Reed Johnson is gone and Colvin is the 5th OF/backup 1B...
  24. to play where? the cubs already have soriano, byrd, colvin, fukudome. obviously reed johnson can go away, but they can't just call up jackson and have him sit around. i wouldn't be opposed to byrd going away. Can't you just send Colvin down to AAA if he's still not hitting well? Doesn't he still have options? I mean are you really just gonna let Jackson stay down at AA/AAA all year if he's raking??
