  1. I probably missed this elsewhere, but Soler is having quite the season. Tied for 3rd in the MLB in homers (20), .919 OPS, 148 OPS+, and looks to be on pace to come close to his 2019 stat line. He's built up quite the resume - 2 world series, a world series MVP, and a home run title with a chance for the second. At this rate, I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up with more career home runs than Bryant.
  2. Moved to the Des Moines area earlier this year and took advantage and decided to take a long lunch to watch Hendricks. Didn’t need to make it as long as I thought though as he couldn’t make it through 2. A lot of hard contact. He was sitting 85-87 though, which is for him, is encouraging maybe?
  3. Mastrobuoni is definitely going to be a guy I won't be able to remember when taking the Cubs opening day lineup Sporcle quiz in five years. If I do remember, will probably take me 3-5 tries to spell it right
  4. Please add me to the Old-Timey group as well. Thanks!
  5. I am wondering if some of the money left to be spent will be acquired via trade over free agency, especially with the extra draft capital that has been built up. Not sure who would be available (Buckner? Tunsil?) but might be the route they need to go if they want to get some more high impact players on the team.
  6. As feared, the Commanders have tagged Payne. Not all that surprising, but I know he was a favorite of many mock off-season posts I have seen.

    NFL Week 16

It's crazy how stacked that 2011 draft class was. Watt was probably the most dominant defensive player in football for a good 4 year stretch before the injuries, but there's a good chance he may have the fifth most sacks in that draft class if he retires early and Quinn plays few more years. Watt would probably be top 10 all time if he wasn't injured for a good portion of his prime. 1. Von Miller (drafted 2nd overall) - 123.5 sacks 2. Cameron Jordan (24th overall) - 112.5 sacks 3. J.J. Watt (11th overall) - 111.5 sacks 4. Justin Houston (70th overall) - 111.0 sacks 5. Robert Quinn (14th overall) - 102.0 sacks Also up there on the leaderboards is Chandler Jones at 112 sacks drafted a year later. Still can't believe McClellin was drafted over Jones. Possibly could have changed that 2012 season.
  8. Hah, looking at his stats last year, he split time at short with our old friend Addison Russell. As comparison: Kim: .304/.396/.521/.917 27 HR in 554 PA, 11 errors in 84 games Russell: .262/.329/.340/.669 1 HR in 231 PA, 8 errors in 11 games Not sure how Korean League typically translates to MLB, but by that, looks like he'd be an upgrade over the piece of horsefeathers Russell.
  9. Holy horsefeathers Ross Ohlendorf is still around?
  10. I'm just going to stop watching games. The only games this trip I was able to watch was this one and the loss against the Padres. The six game winning streak was while I was on vacation. Really can't remember the last time I sat down and watched a win.
  11. I grew up playing baseball with their left fielder Ryan Nagle so that's pretty cool. This is the first time I've tried following a college baseball team somewhat closely.
  12. Drop Springer, add JD Martinez
  13. The good news is that the Cardinals offense has been slumping too, scoring 7 runs in 35 innings against the Pirates, so under 2 runs per nine innings. That being said I fully expect them to BABIP luck their way into a bunch of runs this series. Cubs are also averaging about a run and a half better during night games. I remember somebody mentioning we seem to hit better during the night.
  14. I thought this game couldn't get any worse, then I realized Denorfia has a Nickleback song for his walk-up.
  15. Didn't Soler like not swing at any balls out of the zone for over half the Spring? I want that guy back. Nice start. Bryant needs an extra base hit soon to get him going again.
  16. The bats better come alive by the time the Cardinals come around.
  17. Coors Field does help him, he has a career OPS about 200 points lower away from home (though he's pretty balanced so far this year), but I always thought he could turn into a solid player.
  18. Probably costs less than going out and aggressively pursuing quality relievers via trade in April. When your bullpen gives up several runs every game for nearly a week straight, then it's probably ok to pay a little extra. Shouldn't Wada be up soon? He'd be an upgrade over half the pen.
  19. Schlitter back above Jackson on the crappy middle reliever totem pole
  20. Soler is 1-10 with 6 strikeouts and a walk with that mask if I'm not mistaking. It looks like he can't see a damn thing with that on.
  21. I thought that was a bloop single off the bat
  22. Don't like Ross or Herrera right here..our bench kinda blows outside of Castillo/Denorfia
  23. yep Anyone think Soler might be headed for a slump? I'm blaming it on the mask. I wonder what his statline is with that thing on
  24. Besides Russell, Rizzo has the lowest slugging in that lineup, including Hammel lol. But when you're getting on 50% of the time that doesn't matter as much.
  25. With the next 20 games against the NL Central, it's gonna be important to win as much as we can these next few weeks. Russell is a HUGE upgrade. This is so much fun.
