  1. [expletive] him. I've had as much patience with Jackson as anyone, but the ability to groove dick-high fastballs is not highly sought after. I think he's ridden that 8 BB no-hitter about as far as he can.
  2. You must have missed his first AB, when he struck out swinging.
  3. Cubs are 4-0 in games in which Baez homers. Good times.
  4. Jesus Christ, who is this bozo doing the stretch?
  5. Jesus. Makes me think of that horrific Cameron/Beltran collision when they were with the Mets.
  6. Equally bad is "[insert name of Iowa Cub], get outta my yard!"
  7. Fair point. Obviously the best thing would be to avoid swinging at bad pitches entirely. But given that he's badly missing junk balls as opposed to hittable pitches, it would appear to call into question his discipline more than his contact skills. The former (to me, at least) seems less a red flag than the latter, especially given his fairly robust walk rate.
  8. I thought the central tenet of the "[expletive] pitchers" movement was to avoid investing draft/development resources in pitching, due to the volatility/injury concern surrounding pitching prospects. I'm fully on board with this. That having been said, I think throwing FA cash at pitching is the finest thing a man can do, IF he's good at it.
  9. Steady contact rate with declining OSwing% seemed like a bad thing to me at first take (would seem to suggest he was missing more in the zone), but ZCon% is pretty stable as well (73.9%, 75.4%, 75.8% for June, July & August, respectively). It would appear he's just missing a larger percent of those pitches outside the zone that he's offering at (OCon%: 17.9%, 11.1%, 7.1%). I would think that that's a good thing (to the extent that swinging and missing can be a good thing); it should translate to less poorly contacted balls.
  10. If you are the GM of a franchise that wins 90+ games, you immediately become suave, debonair and above ridicule. For example, present day Jim Hendry is overweight and unattractive. 2008 Jim Hendry = Sex Bomb.
  11. Dmitri stands a champion of the controversial "barium, cobalt and nitrogen" diet.
  12. Pretty [expletive] thrilled we sac bunted there. Grumble.
  13. I really love the way that the most recent Simpsons thread is permeating throughout the board.
  14. I'm more of a "Super Baseball 2020" guy, but sure, whatever.
  15. Baez's bat speed + advanced pitch recognition skills = pretty [expletive] glorious
  16. It's by no means a ha-ha-no gif-worthy package, but I can only assume that your friend isn't aware of Castro and Rizzo's farcically team friendly contracts. It kind of is, though, isn't it?
  17. I've only ever concerned myself with MiLB box scores, never standings/playoff implications. Anyone interested in educating me? Most leagues have their first half division winner and second half division winner make the playoffs (some have additional wild card playoff berths too). And the D-Cubs are currently a half game out of first in the FSL North in the 2nd half. That's interesting. Thanks!
  18. I liked Vance Law as a kid simply because he wore big dorky glasses like I did. Side note: I went to Cubs convention one time and I got one autograph: Vance Law. This is entirely due to my: a) not being an autograph hound (I've subsequently realized there is little other reason to attend said convention) and b) remembering how strongly I identified with him being bespectacled. I was disappointed to find him wearing contact lenses.
