  1. the next 5 years? it's asking a lot for a center to be good until he's 36. not to mention it's not even guaranteed he signs here. obviously the trade was made for beyond this year, but they obviously were expecting much different results THIS year, and it's troubling just HOW bad they look. the downside is that the zach/vuc combo could not work at all, and we end up giving away 2 firsts for nothing, while also not getting any top picks. His game should easily translate for the next 5 years, but I was more meaning putting together a competitive team to surround Zach though his prime (hopefully with someone eventually better than Zach). Yes, they will be competitive next year. The downside you speak of can easily be recuperated by trading Zach and/or Vuc if this really isn’t coming together a year from now. We also were very unlikely to get a top pick even before the trade, unless you consider the 10th overall pick a top pick. Just curious, what would you have done instead? i still would have done it, but the early returns are pretty miserable. i know it's for the future, but it was supposed to lead them solidifying their spot this year. we need to establish that this is a good competitive team before any star would consider coming here, and it looks like the turnaround won't start until next season now. it's just frustrating because even though this is an extremely flawed roster, there is still plenty of talent to be making a push in the weak east.
  2. pwill is making me sad
  3. They’re unlikely to get an all-star player with pick 7 or whatever those two picks would be if they didn’t make the trade, the picks are still top-4 protected and they needed to do something to help ensure Lavine re-signs. I’m sure they tried to get a PG (that’s where all the rumors were) but it takes two to tango. Hopefully they can address it in the offseason. This. The trade for Vuc was NOT for this year. It was for the next 5 years.... and particularly for the next year+ to help keep Zach. And the team is good enough where the pick is going to be a late lottery/non lottery or they are going to get really lucky, but then get to keep their pick. So there’s really no downside, other than trading a 2023 pick in what may be a double draft. But we can worry about that later. the next 5 years? it's asking a lot for a center to be good until he's 36. not to mention it's not even guaranteed he signs here. obviously the trade was made for beyond this year, but they obviously were expecting much different results THIS year, and it's troubling just HOW bad they look. the downside is that the zach/vuc combo could not work at all, and we end up giving away 2 firsts for nothing, while also not getting any top picks.
  4. boog sounds so used to this already
  5. they haven't really done anything in terms of buying. the panthers trade was mostly about getting borgstrom
  6. i'm trying to still like the trade but it's really really hard. i don't see how we fix the defense in one offseason, and vuc and zach keep going cold down the stretches of games. assuming we don't move up in the lottery, we're already going to be giving up a pretty high 1st for vuc, and who knows what the 2023 pick will look like. trading for vuc/theis/brown and then leaving the pg position alone is probably the biggest mistake so far this season. i'm sure they knew it was a half measure, but probably figured the roster would be good enough to get in the playoffs, and then we'd be able to fix the position in the offseason. and honestly, this roster IS good enough to be a playoff team in the east. they certainly shouldn't be playing like this.
  7. i like to call it fake patience. brute forcing their way to walks instead of doing it by actually having good at-bats. the result is hideous.
  8. how do you trade for an all-star and then get worse
  9. i can't believe bd let trae young pick white apart that entire the game. we lose so many games with terrible lineups being left in way too long. lauri is such a slug. we'll improve so much with him replaced.
  10. hey billy you should put in our other all-star
  11. games swing so quickly when coby comes in
  12. stan is basically West Side Rooter. it's going to work one of these times
  13. cubs are going to get gleyber for kimbrel at the deadline
  14. its weirdly satisfying seeing this franchise implode. I guess it's because we all know they deserve it.
  15. no sabonis or brogdon tonight, gotta win
  16. that baez hr is one of the weirdest looking i've ever seen
  17. that was classic joe maddon right there
  18. a big double play to get out of an inning is one of the most satisfying things in sports
  19. Weird take when they just traded 2 FRPs for an all star to try to win. Turning over 1/3 of your rotation at once while facing the toughest part of your schedule with no practice time and a hobbled Lavine is going to cause things to take a little longer to turn around than we’d all like. I'm happy with the trade and 45-50 wins will be relatively fun, but they're still in nba purgatory unless they lure a superstar.
  20. love to have 2 all-stars and see how long we can go without playing them
  21. the bulls/cubs/blackhawks/bears are all in this weird purgatory. it's so frustrating. either win or tank. stop being boring idiots.
  22. i hope one day our coach figures out how to play our good players when the game is up for grabs in the second half. i don't understand why we went all in on winning and our coach is still dicking around with wacky rotations and giving big minutes to known awful players in key stretches.
  23. kb's ragers are sick
  24. season* We will be the only team whose players actually suck more in their walk years. the frustrating part is that it's exactly what the ricketts want
  25. we've been saying this for like 3 years. I'll never understand how they just let the team rot for multiple seasons. blow it up, go for it, or change things up by trading some guys for other major league guys. they've just done nothing for so long.
