  1. If Wood, Prior and (half the time) Zambrano hadn't pitched some of the best baseball of their careers simultaneously, it would have been true. But at the time they got Ramirez/Lofton they had already established that the top of their rotation was dominant.
  2. i was reading this just as utah was getting another wide open dunk
  3. They really need this game. No Deron, no Booer, etc.
  4. These Utah announcers are annoying as hell I don't need to hear "BANG!!! HE DRILLED IT!!!!@!%$^%$%#" everytime somebody makes a shot in the 4th quarter
  5. who here wrote off obp? nobody. p.s. leadoff is still not a position. obp is equally important throughout the lineup. highest scoring offense in the league or not, god knows that the main thing we were missing last year was more guys in front of dlee, right?
  6. For 2/18, assuming the guy on WFAN knows what he's talking about http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/
  7. Lilly, DeRosa, Ramirez, Dempster, Reed, Edmonds. You really shouldn't be counting Dempster in there yet He's been a Cub for 5 years. I think he's referring to the coptract he just signed. either way, it still has yet to be determined if he handled dempster well. he's had one good season as a reliever and one good season as a starter. if that one good season as a starter leads to a 4 year contract and he bombs during those 4 years, then he willed have handled it poorly.
  8. but those characteristics are not exclusive or even required i still don't get what this has to do with soriano though.

  10. isn't a hitter's prime like 25-29?
  11. it's impressive because it shows excellent consistency. you know what you're getting every year with aramis
  12. Is there somewhere I can watch the game live online for free?
  13. i know it's poor logic, but that would have never happened if hughes wasnt such a [expletive]
  14. i love watching golden state games when they're at home. their crowds are always electric
  15. Everything that's been written this offseason has said that the Marlins would have to be "blown away" to trde Hermida. They wouldn't do that trade.
  16. So we're trading Zambrano, Lee, and Derosa for salary relief to get Peavy and then we're going to sign Tex for $200 million. #-o #-o #-o Once again, nobody said we should trade all those guys so we could get Peavy. DeRosa and Lee were single ideas and the only person who mentioned Zambrano was pretty much saying it tongue in cheek I'm not so sure that you can speak for other posters. After reading the unbridled passion that some posters have for Peavy, I'm not sure some people wouldn't trade a few of these guys. My point is that this trade is very similar to the Roberts talk last year: we would love to have him, but we don't absolutely need him. That's especially true if you are going to impact the starting lineup or gut the farm system to get him. When posters talk about trading Lee or DeRosa with no clue as to who would replace them, that's irrational. This is a team that won 97 games last year. Show me who is saying that we should trade all those guys. No clue who owuld replace them? Actually it has been discussed pretty openly who would replace those guys. Yet again though, noboy is saying we should trade all those guys. They were individual ideas on trading indivudal players. You're being irrational by saying that people want to trade all of them when in reality nobody is saying that. And yeah, this team won 97 games. That was last year. We're building a team for this year. A lot of things will change. We aren't going to get Edmonds freakish summer production. It's highly unlikely Dempster will have an ERA under 3 again. It's unlikely that DeRosa will put up an .857 OPS, Fontenot will put up a .900+ OPS, etc, etc. A lot can change. Really I'm just worried about the rotation. That might sound ridiculous, but think about it. Harden is pretty much a lock to miss significant time, and what is Dempster goes back to being Dempster? It's very possible. Then where are we? Zambano and a bunch of 4-4.50 ERA starters. That worries me.

  18. Well this thread will always get sidetracked since there's rarely anything new to discuss on the subject.
  19. don't make me talk about monsters and the tooth fairy
  20. Are the Brewers trying tot rade Cameron? If so, why? He had a pretty good year for you guys and from everything I've heard/read he's been great to the city.
  21. That's like saying Daniel Cabrera will be fine as soon as he stops walking guys, or saying that Corey Patterson will be fine as soon as he stops sucking at baseball. I don't know if there's much Fukudome can do about the Fukucopter unless he completely remakes his swing and stops doing what he's been doing his whole career.
  22. lawl so we'd lead the league in unearned runs just from losing Lee? The truth is that if he hits like last season it doesn't matter how good his defense is. not really actually...i think both of you are walking along the edge just a little here Not really what? When you have an .825 OPS (.790 after May 1) at first base you better be a supernatural defender to be earning 13 mil a year. Besides, Lee's defense wasn't even all that great last season. It was good but not what we're used to seeing. That's not really the point though, the point is his offense. If you're a 13 million dollar first baseman you better damn well better exceed an .825 OPS. You can argue that he'll bounce back.... I'm just saying that if he performs like he did in 2008, that's not hard to replace.

  24. You can never have too much starting pithcing. That rotation is dependent On Harden and Dempster pitching like number 2-3 starters, and that kind of worries me. Harden is pretty much a lock to miss significant time and if Dempster turns back to normal the rotation could be a mess.
