    whether you like the sport or not, you at least have to respect the fact that hockey is pretty much the only sport left that is not full of greedy, arrogant, primadonnas and the players actually care more about the sport than the money. hockey players are generally legit bullVeterans Committee. explain. yes they get paid a lot and some of them are dbags, but they all care about the sport before anything else.

    I don't really think Furcal backed out of anything with the Cubs though. I think they just weren't willing to match LA. It just kind of sucked that LA swopped in at the last second

    What am I dismissing? I'm not guessing what Pie's ceiling, I'm telling you that as of right now, Baldleli hasn't proven that he's the guy that Meph claims he definitely is. I never said that Baldelli can't be that guy or even that it's unreasonable to expect him to be that guy this season. I'm just saying that you can't say he is that guy right now, as if he's already reached and that and proven that he'll be that guy over the course of a full season.

    how do you know he's that player when he's healthy? you're guessing. because the last time he was healthy he was that player and the two years before that when he was healthy he was on the path to becoming that player and was just 22. not to mention he was pretty much that player in limited action this year. he also has more raw talent than pie. his tools better pies across the board. you may want to call it a guess, but it's an educated guess that's more likely than PECOTA, DEXTERMORGAN or ZiPS. You mean in 2006 for like 350 at-bats? So that means he's that player now? You know perfectly well that 350 at-bats proves nothing other than the fact that you can go on anextended hot streak. Mike Fontenot OPSd over .900 in a similar sample size this year. you think baldelli is going to be that guy. fine, i'm not even arguing that. but to say he already is that player is kind of dumb when he clearly is not. nobody is denying that he has the potential to be. but as of right now, he's not. it's all speculation. isn't that what a ceiling is anyways? so basically you're saying that baleddli's ceiling is the same as pie's ceiling, but that baldelli is more likely to reach it. good job but you're meph, so you must be right

    ridiculous. Not really... If Rocco could ever stay healthy (which is a longshot, obviously) he's probably a .290/.330/.490 player with plus defense and plus base running. That's Pie's ceiling. umm you just said he "already is" that player, which he clearly is not.

Those are convinced Olney is wrong because a few days ago one of there "insiders" who claims the Orioles won't be outbid said a few days ago to expect some false media info in the next couple of days. As soon as the Olney article came out they were all "lol Buster...you're going to feel stupid when you found out you were lied to!".

    It's really not difficult to craft a reasonable response that's not "cmon, Joey Gathright?". Not everything needs to be black and white. i dont understand what you're saying i've researched defensive metrics with an open mind in the past and i simply don't buy the accuracy that many people here are acting as though they give. That doesn't mean you throw out the data point altogether. Even if you halve the defensive impact from each(and in most of the cases here we're talking about players on complete opposite ends of defensive ability(Gathright/Pie/Fukudome v. Dunn/Ibanez/Abreu)), then it's still worth pointing out that those defensive differences make them closer in value than Rotoworld might lead someone to believe. I agree with all that. I'm not saying they're worthless, I'm just saying that some people are going overboard When Colin essentially said he'd take Gathright at 10-15 million over Abreu at 800k I just couldn't read anymore

    what's with all the threads breaking down defense lately? it's like the new nsbb craze. look i'm all about stats, but im sorry.. i think people are going wayyyy overboard with the defensive metrics. when people are arguing that joey gathright (joey gathright) is better than abreu/ibanez/hermida/dunn, etc.... it's probably time to step away from the computer.

    I'm not a big fan of trading Vitters for anything short of a perennial allstar. Vitters is probably the most overrated Cub prospect since Bobby Hill. It's comments like these that lead me to believe that the Cubs prospects stand at best half the chance of other team's prospects to succeed. If they don't immediately perform they're "garbage" and people want to chase them away. Nowhere did I say he was garbage. you compared him to bobby hill and bobby hill was garbage No I didn't. then what is this?
