  1. i don't think anyone wants busted ass zach lavine, but it would be nice to unload him
  2. If Lonzo can't come back this year, trade dero trade him now regardless. we're delaying the inevitable here
  3. Yes, but did something new happen on this front? he went from being okay last year to bad this year. it was bad regardless, but now we don't even get a decent player out of it
  4. couldn't offer 3/36, need that money for longoria
  5. seth jones is one of the worst trades/signings in chicago sports history
  6. Tbf since you’re into narrative: neither one of these guys, or any good player, is interested in an actively losing org these days. So a non-Swanson Plan better be more than Noah Syndergaard and worse, otherwise yeah totally will keep (at min Ohtani) them out Devers has had seasons of .7, 1, and .7 fWAR and is being painted as some uber mensch in comparison…What be the rules? those were his age 20-21 seasons plus 2020. the last 3 non-pandemic seasons he was at 6.7, 4.2, and 4.9
  7. let's just get javy back
  8. i basically just checked the box score to see what seiya and hoerner did
  9. - Swanson’s career BB% is league average or better - K rate a little abv league (career, 24% v lg 23%) - Others are covering the BABIP issue Descriptors like ordinary and special are boring and empty noise! The Cubs aren’t even good and we out here talkin’ about being special?! Get good and all that extra stuff opens up (unless/until we run out another coredation for aging and wanting some more money) He was almost 1.5% below league average in BB% this past year and around league average most of his career. His Ks are above and likely continue to trend up with age. He is the definition of boring and not special and not a guy I’d tie up 10-15% of my yearly payroll in because he moves no needles in the position we’re in and when we are good again he’s a sunk cost/liability/declining asset at that point. might as well not even try right i obviously get the pessimism, but if we are even going to pretend to go after guys like ohtani and devers, we need to be improving the team right now
  10. The farm system is most definitely better than average, whatever average even is. I’m the low guy on the mainstream coverage too, but it’s as deep and talented as anyone’s To use Fangraphs' rankings for ease of use, the Cubs are 5th in overall value, 5th in number of 50 FV or greater prospects, and 9th in average value of ranked prospects. nuh uh
  11. it's funny that we did that huge sell off and our farm system is still average. jed has done nothing for this organization
  12. guys sometimes things just don't fall your way. it takes 2 to tango. we're confident we have enough.
  13. it seems much lower than 50/50 that the cubs will even get swanson taillon was our splurge Honestly, the "best" move they can make at this point is just sitting out. next season's free agent position players suck, they need to start adding them immediately
  14. it seems much lower than 50/50 that the cubs will even get swanson taillon was our splurge
  15. Because the GM is obsessed with efficiency and the owner is comfortable with the business model of a losing Cubs team still being profitable. but there are lots of guys who would still have fit into an efficiency plan with more bulk. jed can't be scared of 2 year deals.
  16. he's probably trying to, but nobody wants to come to the cubs for whatever reason They’ve gotten a premier international FA in Suzuki last year, Stroman, Taillon and Bellinger in the last ~14 months. They clearly can get guys. Yes they haven’t gotten the big anchor (Suzuki may still be one) but it’s not like they haven’t gotten decent guys to come. im.talking about this free agent class. I'm not suggesting the cubs are an unattractive destination. I'm just speculating that maybe we are getting unlucky with this particular class wanting to come here.
  17. he's probably trying to, but nobody wants to come to the cubs for whatever reason I know there are bad vibes with what happened to the last core, but there's no reason someone wouldn't come to the Cubs if they were offering the most money unless a guy is really really hung up on being guaranteed to be in contention next season. we have no idea what these FAs really are interested in. maybe they don't like the cold, maybe they don't like playing in wrigley, maybe they have friends/family elsewhere, etc. it could easily be that we're just getting unlucky with this particular free agency class not having a lot of chicago fans. i'm just struggling to find reasons for why we haven't done more so far. if we aren't serious about correa, there are so many other free agents we should have come away with/ nothing makes sense right now unless we're getting correa.

  19. brett has finally turned
