  1. seriously?
  2. trade slaton for a stud qb
  3. they might not get 80
  4. Theriot plays awful defense. He's not a shortstop. And no, I don't think Boston would love to have Theriot's .720 OPS with terrible defense.
  5. we need a shortstop. we can move theriot to 2b.
  6. i just don't see any similarities between 2008 and 2004. the 2008 cubs were the best/most fun team to watch in our lifetimes, right? the 2004 team was nothing but unlikeable. the 2008 cubs were awesome and ran away with the division, but played 3 bad games in october. the 2004 cubs got in their own way constantly all season long and it ended up costing them a shot at the playoffs. the 2008 cubs were awesome in every way. the 2004 cubs were a bunch of underachieving douchebags
  7. Last season was 2004 - all the talent in the world and nothing to show for it, unless you count the "2008" flag on the roof. This is 2005. Sky-high expectations, perceived (rightly or wrongly) key players gone, in contention until the late summer and utter mediocrity abound. Pray we aren't in for another 2006 next season. i don't remember the expectations being that high in 2005 at all. they won 89 games the year before and had a bad offseason. this season is so 2004 - disappointing season after high expectations - frustrating/disappointing offense - color guy (brenly/stone) ripping team members - controversial/highly paid right fielder who might be working his way out of town - crappy closer blowing games - manager making boneheaded moves non-stop the only thing missing is nomar
  8. this season is so similar to 2004 it's ridiculous. well, except for the fact that the 2004 team was actually good.
  9. Uh he said Soriano has no business playing right now. I'm guessing he hasn't listened to Brenly during a Cubs game this year. Soriano has to be one of Brenly's least favorite players. I applaud Brenly for calling it how it is, although he picked a strange time to pile on Bradley. Lets face it, Bradley isn't the reason the Cubs have been losing all season. Even when he was struggling early on in the year, he was still getting on base pretty regularly. While it is obvious that Bradley is a head case and loves to play up the victim role, he still has two years left on his contract and could be a real asset to the team. The team needs to figure out a way for Bradley to keep his mouth shut and not be overly sensitive. brenly has the guys he likes and doesn't like. yeah but its not like he just picks and chooses who he wants to dislike. he doesn't dislike soriano becuase he sucks. he dislikes him because of his defense, poor discipline, poor fundamentals, blah blah blah. all that dave kaplan type stuff. he dislikes bradley because of the way he's acting (like a baby). soto, miles, and fontenot have sucked, but they haven't really given anybody any reasons to dislike them personally. they just suck.
  10. chris shelton
  11. Bradley had an OPS of about 660 in his first ~800 PAs. Are you saying that skewed his career numbers to look worse than they are? Well if that's true, you also have to consider he had a 1.000 or so OPS for about his last 700 PAs before joining the Cubs..... and considering his track record and the fact that most of those came in Texas, that stretch seems more like an aberration than an accurate portrayal of the hitter he is. Just like that .660 OPS in his first 800 PAs was not an accurate portrayal. I was hoping the 7 or so good months he had before joining the Cubs were some kind of progression for Bradley and he was going to be like a yearly .300/.400/.500 type guy, but I don't think that's the case anymore. I think the numbers he's going to end up with this season are pretty close to the numbers he'll usually put up from here on out (and the numbers he's put up for the majority of his seasons). High on base, low power/slugging. I think he'll fluctate between like an .830-.900 OPS for the rest of his career, depending on what seasons he gets hot. I think usually he'll be around an .840/.850 OPS. A good, not great, hitter.
  12. does anybody know the latest on hossa's injury?
  13. I'd try to package Wayne or Johnson with one of your RBs to get a stud RB. Forte/Smith/McFadden seems really suspect to me.
  14. Hill has done the job even worse, and he got rewarded for it.
  15. No, it validates why Lou is benching him. which is your argument. we're saying he shouldn't be benched, you're saying he should. benching him because hill has been better over the past month would be ridiculously stupid, for all the reason we've already discussed.
  16. lol batting average with risp btw, hill has a .591 ops since the break And not surprisingly, you answer a question with a question. I ask you who's been better over the last month and you respond with a question. Well done. apparently you missed the part where i told you it doesn't matter who has been better over the past month i'm still loling at ba w/ risp Oh, so Hill has been better, hence the benching? You don't say. hill has not been better. you're choosing the last month because it suits your argument. soto has been better for the season soto has been WAY better since mid may
  17. For the year he has a worse average than Hill with RISP. And since the ASB, my goodness are his numbers terrible. We're talking Aaron Miles terrible. lol batting average with risp btw, hill has a .591 ops since the break And not surprisingly, you answer a question with a question. 18. Exactly. However, god forbid a fan favorite get benched for crappy play. My goodness. it would be fine to bench him if a) the season still meant something b) there was a better option to take his place neither of those are true a is still true to many people as we are only 5.5 back in the WC but b still isn't true

  20. Seems like a smart move to keep sending him out there to go 0-4 with 2 k's and GIDP every game.. so you want to send out a guy who has been a little worse Who's been better over the last month? Just answer the question. why does it matter? the cubs aren't making the playoffs. it makes no difference who is the hottest right now. and even if it did, soto is still the better bet to be the better of the 2 for the remainder of the season. and like tt said, soto has been wayyy better since like mid may i still haven't seen a single legit reason to start hill.
  21. Exactly. However, god forbid a fan favorite get benched for crappy play. My goodness. it would be fine to bench him if a) the season still meant something b) there was a better option to take his place neither of those are true

  23. how many times do people need to explain to you that soto has been better? not to mention that he has shown in the past that he can be good. hill has shown for his career that he also will suck. anyways, it doesn't even matter. soto should be starting anyways so he can hopefully get it going a little in the final month so maybe he doesn't feel completely horrible about himself going into the postseason. there is no reason to start hill or soto. none. all you've been able to comeu p with is that soto needs a break. he'll get a break in a month when the season ends.
  24. you know they make rate stats, right? they really work and are far more useful than counting stats i feel like we've been over this yes, sitting on the pine will fix everything. that's what he needs. now that he's at an all time low on the season, let's bench him so he can't turn it around for the rest of the year. that way we can assure his confidence is at an all time low heading into the offseason. seems like a smart move
