  1. I've never loved a Cubs player more than I loved Jake Arrieta in the days surrounding the one game playoff against PIttsburgh. Now he's probably not even top 15 of my favorite Cubs. Speaks more to how amazing the rest of this roster is, but still...be a solid number two this year and then enjoy the rest of your career watching the Cubs dominate Octobers from the couch.
  2. I'll go out on a limb and say it was definitely the best NLCS game 6 in Wrigley history.
  3. ooh, this made me remember rizzo's home run that broke kershaw's brain. god, there's like 50 moments this year that would make the top 5 in any other season. Someone should try to make like a...top 20 moments of some year like 2011 just to really appreciate we've got 40 moments left that all took place after the middle of October.
  4. So the Moncada trade was good, the Giolito trade was terrible. Case closed.
  5. In the history of the world, no one has ever been cooler than Baez was from about 0:22 to 0:27 in this video. "Yeah, I know, this is like my 19th appearance on the top 108 plays. Just wait till you see what I do to Kluber in a couple weeks."
  6. i mean you did overlook the losing career-year fowler (in that statement) but i think heyward's bounceback will cover for that. Assuming the Almora/Jay platoon can match Heyward's 2016 output (1.6 WAR), we'd just need Heyward to hit his average WAR over the last three years (4.2 WAR) to come close to matching Fowler's 4.7. I assume a full season of Schwarb dongs can more more than make up any difference.
  7. But I'd have to pay for that right? Have never signed up for it in the past. Just an MLB account needed. I haven't renewed my subscription and I'm watching right now. I'm getting a pop up saying "Watch every out-of-market game LIVE or on demand on MLB.TV". Eh, no big deal....thanks for the help.
  8. But I'd have to pay for that right? Have never signed up for it in the past.
  9. When this is all done, I'd love to have you publish your notes. I would also love for someone who is really good at video editing to try to compile all these into one long video. Maybe put graphics up to introduce each one with the titles bukie made. I'm adding my support for this because I get the feeling that when I come back to this thread in a couple years, I'm going to see a lot of 'video removed'
  10. Any way to watch this online while in the Chicago area? Stuck in the office...
  11. Yeah, I hate how that became a lightning rod for the worst kind of meatballs to harp about; that balls was horsefeathering annihilated and that it only made it into the basket is a completely weird and stupid fluke thanks to the weather that's going to kill us all within the next 50 years. horsefeathers the nonsense about putting your head down and running; when you destroy a ball that thoroughly, you should be fined if you DON'T pimp it. I know I'm in the minority on this, but a well executed bat drop (see Baez here or Schwarber against Pittsburgh) is just as good as a bat flip. Just once, I'd love to see Bryant pimp one.
  12. Just adding on to everyone else here regarding game 4. I, like a loser, spent most of the second half of the year dreading the playoffs because of it's coin flip nature, and I spent most of game 4 just dreading having to get through the next few days and then watch one game to determine whether the dream season was going to continue to be labeled a choke. Once this comeback started...regardless of what happened the rest of the way, there was a huge weight off my shoulders.
  13. Gar/Pax goes all 'hold my beer' on Marc Stein and gets NBA2k13 legend (and terrible actual player) Anthony Morrow while GIVING UP a draft pick, per the latest rumors.
  14. javy basically was the giants series it's true but then it's like wait in the dodgers series he stole home lol And then went oppo off Kluber in game 7 which, given that we actually won, it's so great we ended up winning by one run because depending on how I'm feeling I can point to like 12 different guys to be like 'they won the World Series for the Cubs'
  15. Shout out to Derwood to putting his five weird nicknames into 5 separate posts, like that would maximize his number of likes.
  16. I love how much Javy dominates these highlights. I honestly can't imagine a more likable team.
  17. Lack jawed yokel (debates hitting submit for 6 seconds, horsefeathers it)
  18. Hey bukie I don't mean for this to come out wrong since you've created a thread that I hope to eventually download and return to for the rest of my life, but... it's the middle of February and there is nothing else going on besides the world falling apart and I would really appreciate it if I could disappear into a simpler, happier time (4 months), I don't know, like...10 times a day going forward. Thanks!
  19. http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/18726190/rick-ankiel-drank-games-calm-nerves There's so many places you can go with this.
  20. I've watched this video like 50 times. Given that pitch location and the fact that it seemed like he hit it off the end of the bat, that noise, the exit velocity, the fact that he knew it right away, and the fact that he put it in the LEFT field bleachers is just astounding to me.
  21. I really think focusing on length of the game is missing the point compared to just trying to improve pace of play. There is something genuinely more enjoyable about watching someone like Mark Buehrle (or Kyle Hendricks) pitch compared to that asshat from the Dodgers. The fact that hitters are told to prioritize OBP and lengthy at bats and pitchers are told to go after strikeouts isn't as aesthetically pleasing, but it's a genuine strategy so I don't think you can do anything to avoid that at this point.
  22. I think you start with speeding up time between innings/pitches, not with penalties that affect the actual game but maybe with a fine system put in place (taking too long on the mound or stepping out of the box too long/too often, so it affects everyone). One mound visit per inning...any pitching changes or anything past that have to be called in from the dugout. There is no reason replays should ever take more than 60 seconds. Get a dedicated team at headquarters and have them in charge of everything. Those seems like much more reasonable ideas that have zero impact on the actual game play. If there isn't any noticeable difference in time of game (which I think drives 'interest'), maybe then you consider more drastic measures...limited pitching changes per inning, altering the mound/strike zone, etc.
  23. The roster move for this was waiving David Rollins, who just got his 6th DFA of the offseason. This is the second time the Cubs have waived him.
  24. We started talking about Schwarber last night after seeing those pictures of him looking like the effing hulk, and I went to find some highlights of his dongs, which sadly brought me back to 2015. I realized while watching that it was almost a completely different experience watching highlights of the 2015 team. Still incredibly fun, but just doesn't come with the happiness of knowing where 2016 ends up.
  25. I want to be able to treasure this thread forever. Let's please keep this to the highlights and how amazing this team was.
