  1. We're on an 88 win pace with multiple hitters unsustainably underperforming. We might not have the dominant pitching we had all of last year, but 2017 is the year of the dong. We're going to be just fine.
  2. I think I'm good without his 5.20 ERA, and this is his good half too.
  3. Had a really dumb drunk idea while sitting at the game last Sunday. For games on the road, put yesterday's starting pitcher in the lineup. If he comes up in the top of the first, you can use a pinch hitter. If not, just sub in the correct starter when you get to the bottom of the first.
  4. Regarding earlier comments...I was being extremely generous with the word 'peripherals'...just looked at walk and K rates. Had no idea they were all intentional walks and just saw his K rate was in line with last year. TLDR I'm an idiot.
  5. Small sample size, but Baez' peripherals actually looked pretty good going into today's game, especially if you figure the one thing you don't have to worry about with him is hitting for power. Hopefully this is just a bad game.
  6. The Deadspin article doesn't explain it very well, but from how I read it, it sounds like his past conviction is now void because he hadn't used up all his appeals. Therefore, any evidence used in the criminal case can't be used in any potential civil case going after his estate. Obviously they can just reintroduce everything, most likely coming to the same conclusion, but the article almost cited that as a potential reason for what happened last night. Not a lawyer, just how I read it. http://deadspin.com/aaron-hernandez-commits-suicide-in-prison-cell-1794445345
  7. Eh, whatever. I'm going on Sunday, so now I'm guaranteed to see a win.

  9. I know how line-ups are constructed now, and I know Zobrist is getting the day off, but there's still some dissonance in the best team in baseball with by far the best offense in baseball putting out a career below-average hitter in the clean-up spot.
  10. I wonder if part of the reason for all his starts early on is that, while he needs to improve a ton to get there, his ceiling is still right up there Russell/Schwarber, if not Rizzo/Bryant, and given our projected cushion in the division, Theo/Joe know they can afford to put out a suboptimal lineup (one that is still far and away better than any other team in our division) and not have it impact our chances of making the playoffs (while giving Javy the best chance to reach his peak). Or basically what Cubswin said.
  11. schwarber is out Hendricks pinch hit, obviously. (Still rounding into regular season form)
  12. I honestly can't decide, I just love them all so much - lying parents, or me talking about a bunch of grown men I will never meet
  13. I'm guessing they are bounced pitches? I would be able to tell you, but somehow this game says blacked out on CSN's website, my phone's data plan in Chicago, and my brother's MLB account that he set up in Champaign. Which is nice.
  14. I'm watching this game on my laptop. Six inches to the left of my laptop screen is my bobblehead of Kyle Schwarber holding the World Series trophy. It is not hard at all.
  15. I know Barstool/Pardon My Take doesn't have the best reputation around here, but they had Theo on this morning and it was a pretty solid interview in terms of getting actual answers from Theo on building the team. Theo comes off about as exactly as you'd expect in terms of being incredibly cocky and self-assured, but he actually answers some of the questions I thought he would deflect. http://www.podcastone.com/pg/jsp/program/episode.jsp?programID=865&pid=1723712 Starts at the 27 minute mark.
  16. you might be right...i had forgotten about the jake/montero thing in that case, my best guess is russell, heyward, montero for 5, 6, 7 Is there a world where Miggy catches Jake every 5th day (I'd prefer Kyle, but whatever), Schwarber catches Anderson/Monty every 5th day, and Willson gets the other three? Or is Schwarber catching only in late game situations? Does Miggy get more than 20% of the starts?
  17. Eh. Brother and Dad are both big Cardinal fans. Before now, every Cardinal win over the Cubs was just a reminder of their superiority. Now, it's just 'wow, that's cute, good for them'. The rest of their rotation is a tire fire and we just saw what Matheny thinks of the rest of his bullpen.
  18. Feels like a bit of step back, but probably just something to get used to.
  19. Had no problem with Lester coming in when he did. Kyle's line looked good, but I seem to remember him getting hit harder than usual. Chapman for the 9th was pretty questionable (especially after Chapman pitching as much as he did in game 6). Might have preferred Jake there, but it all worked out in the end.
  20. Hit definitely gets overlooked, but the part where he turns towards the bench to say a few words and nod back at them is ingrained in my memory. It's so amazing that he came out of nowhere to be this stud catcher who's personality fits in perfectly with the rest of the team.
  21. Eh, for the 2017 version of our bullpen, he's our 6th inning guy. Not going to worry too much about it given how 80% of our starters are going to go 6+ regularly. Strop, Edwards, Koji, Monty, Davis....we'll be fine.
  22. i had essentially the exact same experience at cortland's garage I had that experience at my house Parlor Bar. Actually was in a cab for the Dodger's comeback (had to switch, was not a happy stretch)...made it just in time.
