    Darvish kinda makes sense, especially given that he threw all of 40 innings last year, but it would be tough timing as we'd have to figure out a starter for Friday (or go bullpen game, which I guess could be Chatwood for 3-5 innings). Hoping it's just a fake Chatwood injury.

    Unless they're gonna make up a pitcher injury, I have a feeling it might be a certain third baseman. Hopefully Chatwood. I wouldn't put it past them, but going with three bench players (2 really, given that the third is Taylor Davis) would be impressive self-sabotage even for them.

    The A's are 16 games over 500 and are 8 1/2 out. We need to figure out the road nonsense and get ourselves back to 500. Need to win at least a couple in this series to keep things going at home. They're a half game out of the wild card, so his statement is correct. Not sure what the rest of that means in this context.

    I know Heyward has been running hot, but him and Contreras need to switch spots here.

    I was under the impression Bennetti was really good and pretty widely respected across baseball? I’d have to be pretty desperate to actually turn on a Sox game, especially with how much fun the cubs have been for the last couple months, so not speaking from too much personal experience.

    I mean, it's a 6 game sample size. In those 6 games we have a .206 BABIP, which is the lowest by 28 points. But we're also striking out at the second highest rate in baseball, and generally being ass at most things involving baseball. That's why they play 162 of them.

    It's almost the opposite of last year, where the team looked pretty terrible for long stretches and had some pretty serious injuries and still somehow ended up with the most wins in the NL. This year we've been pretty healthy, KB and Contreras are having significantly better years, etc...and it just seems like Maddon is consistenly pressing the wrong buttons, and it's going to take a really strong finish to get to 90 wins. I'm intrigued by the Cubs having the most wins in the NL last year. :P Eh, to me the Brewers tiebreaker is a playoff game more than a regular season game. But...sure, substitute "95 wins" instead.

    Man, real disappointed I missed this one. Honestly, if Russell actually was a good baseball player (he's not), banishing him to Iowa would make me like the Cubs even more. Not as much as cutting him, obviously, but here we are.

    Maddon was gone the second the FO decided not to add on another year to his deal. He's a lame duck manager. If they win the WS, he can use the "I'm going out on top" excuse. If they flame out and either miss the playoffs or get bounced quickly, they'll say they're looking for a new voice in the clubhouse or some other [expletive] line. Don't know what excuse they'd use if the Cubs make the NLCS or WS and lose but I'm sure they'd have something.     Why wouldn't they just turn him into a bullpen guy for the rest of the year? He's never going to be efficient on the mound, especially now with a WHIP of 1.45.

    We traded some minor league outfielder I've never heard of for pool money...assuming that evens out.

    Carl wasn't always a good pitcher (but sometimes he was...really good even) but he seemed like a great person. I will always remember taking my then 6 year old daughter to a game in the bleachers in 2017 (I know, great place for a 6 year old, they were free tix) and during the game we walked down to the area you can see the bullpen guys. I assumed it was a 1 way window but Justin Grimm actually waved at my daughter and made funny faces. Then when we turned and walked away, some clubhouse person came chasing after us with a baseball, telling me that Carl wanted my daughter to have this. I was so caught off guard I forgot to tell the girl to thank him. This isn't necessarily the reason I think he's a good person, he probably does that 10 times a game, but obviously a positive personal recollection of mine. Really hated to see him struggle because I really wanted him to succeed. Happened to my 3 year old nephew last year too, who was too young to even realize what was going on. Seems like a great guy.

    6.57 ERA this year in 24 IP with the Padres 6.11 ERA in 17 IP with AAA El Paso this year Last year his numbers looked a lot better in the majors and minors so hopefully its a mental thing and the Cubs can get him on track. The Cubs used to have a good track record of finding these guys and fixing them into something useful. LOL so basically the Cubs traded for Carl Edwards in the hopes they could get him on track?

    Assuming we keep 13 pitchers... 1. Willy 2. Vic 3. Rizzo 4. Baez 5. Bryant 6. Heyward 7. Schwarber 8. Castellanos That leaves four spots for 1. Garcia 2. Bote 3. Almora 4. Kemp 5. Happ My guess is Garcia goes back down given Kemp's ability to play second. Zobrist doesn't see Wrigley until the rosters expand. We've see the last of DeScalso (and hopefully Russell).

    Does Castellanos not move into a platoon with Schwarbs? Or does he play right and move Heyward to Center? Ideally it's a platoon, but that relies on some combination of Bote, Garcia, Happ, Almora, and eventually Zobrist being able to fill an outfield spot/3B, second, and center. So I can see him getting more starts than just the soft side of a platoon.

    It's significant to the extent that Dubon is ranked as the 4th best prospect in the Brewers system, and it's significant that we avoided trading for another bad pitcher.

    he's a CF? Last year 23 innings at second, 393 innings in left, 226 innings in center. Obviously graded out as a slightly negative defender, so probably a defensive downgrade over Almora...who knows about second base.

    Kind of? Above average hitter last year when his BABIP was .296...this year it's gone down to .233, which seems like it needs to go up. We know longer have to hear laughter when our big pinch running move late game is David Bote. Yeah, it's not going to change much, but he belongs on a 25 man roster, which is more than you can say for at least a couple of the guys that have been on it all year.

    The Cubs potentially going 14-15 and then 11-13, and the having it be the first time they've done something like that in over 5 years, isn't exactly what I call depressing.

    I'm only like halfway through Season 3, so I'm a little concerned about getting spoiled something. But then again, it's not really that kind of show. Schitt's Creek to rescue the season, let's go.
