  1. The draft starts at 1pm ET/12 CT. You can follow the picks through MLB.com's draft tracker for the entire draft. I'm not totally sure, but ESPN and CBS sportsline may have updates through the 1st round or so. There should also be a free, live radio feed for the draft as well which will be the quickest way to follow the draft. If you have XM radio, Channel 189 will have the draft.
  2. He was ranked #42 by BA on May 25th, so somehow, he's gone up the draftboard. He had a mediocre senior season and was hampered by leg injuries. He's a five-tool SS, though, comparable to Bobby Crosby or JJ Hardy. He has good bat speed and a good feel for the strike zone, but he needs to make changes to his swing and approach at the plate. Solid runner and solid defensively. Definitely not someone I want to see the Cubs pick, especially with Snyder, Chamberlain, Scherzer and Jeffress still on the board.
  3. I don't get why the Cubs would do that. He's pretty much a lock to stay with football right? I could see a team with lots of picks taking their chances on a guy like this, but when you have only two picks in 5 rounds why waste one on a guy that's not going to play baseball? Hendry does have close ties to the ND program - hopefully he has a good gauge of Smardzja's true interest. I'd be really disappointed if BA is right and Miller and Lincecum fall to the picks right before the Cubs' pick.
  4. It doesn't sound quite as drastic...but does anyone else get a Brownlie-type vibe from this whole situation? I'd hate for the Cubs to draft him and watch his stuff go flying out the window the moment he sets foot in the farm system. Nah. Brownlie actually missed time with injury and it was obvious he was going to fall and fall a lot. If Miller drops below Colorado, then I'd find it strange.
  5. Reno is about 4500' above sea level, I'd imagine that helps the power a bit.
  6. I believe BBB said Nevin didn't have kind words for the Padres when they asked him to catch. Don't think it's going to happen.
  7. Bard is definitely a possiblity, but I think the Cubs would prefer a player with a higher ceiling. I think Drabek's perceived character and attitude problems would make him an unlikely pick for the Cubs. On the other hand, if a Boras guy like Hochevar or Scherzer fell to the Cubs, I think they'd be all over him.
  8. 8 figures is ridiculous. It's weird to see Hochevar being talked about as KC's pick - good to hear the Cubs would be all over Luke (or Scherzer) if he falls.
  9. Thank you Sabathia :D I am worried about my team in the coming weeks though. They just aren't hitting the way they were earlier in the season. I had a nice opportunity with the Sabathia-Lackey matchup. Stupid CC...
  10. Probable Starters: Iowa: LHP Ryan O'Malley (3-3, 3.95 ERA, 43.1 IP, 33/6, 1.13 WHIP) @ RHP Edinson Volquez (3-5, 4.62 ERA) West Tenn: LHP Chris Shaver (2-3, 3.24 ERA, 50 IP, 45/21, 1.34 WHIP) vs. RHP Russ Ohlendorf (3-3, 2.64 ERA) Daytona: RHP Sean Gallagher (4-0, 2.48 ERA, 65.1 IP, 67/16, 1.22 WHIP) @ RHP Jose Garcia (6-2, 1.93 ERA) Peoria: LHP Donnie Veal (4-2, 3.07 ERA, 55.2 IP, 66/35, 1.22 WHIP) vs. RHP Grant Varnell (1-5, 4.21)
  11. Olney said nothing of the sort. Reading helps. Nor did SSR say he said that. But I'm guessing he believes it if he puts that quote in his story.
  12. Not necessarily more competitive, but what Dusty means is that quite a few of the best prospects are promoted from AA to the big leagues, entirely skipping AAA.
  13. He's gonna need to go nuts for that to happen. Wells, Sizemore, GMJ, Granderson, and Damon are all in front of him, production wise. Oh man. Imagine GMJ and Corey making the all-star team.
  14. So Rowell goes to Baltimore. The Giants are up now. I go with RHP Brandon Morrow, Cal.
  15. I wonder what Justin's stuff is like these days - maybe it has deteriorated after all those injuries and he's just not the prospect he was before. Serena's a card shark. 8)
  16. Baltimore: Billy Rowell - 4 votes Jeremy Jeffress- 1 vote 38 minutes to vote...
  17. Depending on when Mateo comes off the DL, Juan could easily replace Carlos in the WT rotation and then Gallagher won't get promoted. I still think Sean will get promoted to AA right after the FSL all-star game.
  18. Not sure why he was demoted from AA New Britain, where he was doing pretty well (2-2, 3.25 ERA, 29/15) to high-A Ft. Myers. I can't pull up the article any longer, but a google news search coughed up this tidbit: To make room for Garza, the Rock Cats sent lefthander Justin Jones (1-2, 2.61 ERA in four starts) to Fort Myers. Matt Garza was promoted from Ft. Myers. Garza is one of Minnesota's top prospects and was well-deserving of his promotion. Still don't understand why Justin was demoted, coulda sent someone else down!!
  19. So with Pujols and Carpenter hurt, will Dusty not get extended if the Cards don't tank a la the Cubs?
