    Iowa up 4-0 in the top of the 3rd. West Tenn and Chattanooga are scoreless in the 2nd. Gallagher: 2 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 3/2. Daytona down 4-2 in the 5th.

    The Dodgers are offering Kemp, Billinsgley and Izturis for Maddux, Williamson and Aramis? Somehow I find that hard to believe, given the Dodgers don't want to give up either in a potential Willis trade.

    Suarez actually got $850,000 for his bonus, not the $350,000 reported by ESPN. In the Pac Rim, Cleveland signed Sung-Wei Tseng (age 21, Taiwan, pitched in the WBC) to a 1-year minor league contract and the Angels signed Young-Il Jung (age 18, South Korea) to a $1 million bonus.

    Good news that he started in CF since there were some concerns about his ability to play there. Rundle had an RBI line drive single to LF in the 8th. Mesa down 5-3 in the 9th with 2 outs, but the go-ahead run is at the plate.

    Vance, no offense, but you come off as a big time homer on this one. Emmit's records based on longetivity are great, but when you look at his YPC, etc. stats, they don't hold up with some of the other greats. And those other greats (Sanders, Payton especially) never played with the linemen that Emmitt got to. And it's really tough to compare guys from different eras because of the size, strength, athletic ability, schemes, etc. that were so different between eras.

    Outshined mentioned most of the hitters of intrigue (Baez, Canzler, Colvin, Joseph and Lewis). The starting pitchers will indeed be Pina and Muldowney tag teaming with Pawelek. Also, if LHP reliever Jeremy Papelbon comes in either day, anything on him would be great. If you could get velocity readings for any of the pitchers, that'd be awesome.

    And given a weak FA class, I doubt it will help the Cubs improve dramatically. Looks like we'll probably have to hope the Cubs are one of the worst 15 teams so their pick is protected again (of course this isn't even an issue right now). If the Cubs are one of the 3 worst does that effect the second round in any way or is it just the first round? In terms of protected picks? Just the first round (and top 15 picks, at that).

    Sean Marshall's IP: 2001: Age 19, VCU: 72 IP 2002: Age 20, VCU: 85 IP 2003: Age 21, VCU: 86.1 IP + Boise: 73 IP + Lansing: 7 IP = 146.1 IP 2004: Age 22, Lansing: 48.2 IP + WT: 29 IP = 77.2 IP 2005: Age 23, Daytona: 69 IP + WT: 25 IP = 94 IP 2006: Age 24, Cubs: 93.2 IP Obivously the 2003 IP is somewhat misleading since he had a break between his time at Virginia Commonwealth and the Cubs system. I'd like to see him not get extended much in his starts right now and really limit his innings to around 150.

    And how many teams passed on Albert Pujols how many times? The MLB draft, moreso than any other draft, is extremely difficult to get right. Yes, I've been disappointed in the Cubs player development, especially at the offensive end. But Harvey was the consensus choice amongst scouts and others at the time of the pick. Hear, hear! He still might be converted to a pitcher. May!? It's going to happen. I have him getting converted before the 08 season, Outshined says it will happen before next season.

    West Tenn ended up winning 13-2. And they did it without a HR. Daytona won 4-3. Boise up 4-1 in the middle of the 8th. Francisco, Clipp and Papelbon have provided strong relief.

    I agree that the Cubs overvalue athleticisim and raw tools. Well, the Cubs weren't the only team to consider Harvey a top-5 pick.

    The Jaxx are now up 8-2 on Chattanooga after 7. Everybody besides Moore and Rojas has a hit. Shaver went 7 and gave up 2 ER (8 Ks to boot). Daytona is up 4-2 after 7. Berg went 5 and just gave up the one run. He had 7 Ks to just 1 BB. Ryan Harvey joined Craig in hitting a HR, his 8th. Phil Norton has pitched a scoreless inning of relief after being promoted from Mesa. Peoria won 6-1. Blackford went 7, K'd 5 and gave up 1 unearned run for the win. Matt Avery struck out the only 4 guys he faced for his 7th save of the season.

    Apparently FiberPipe is trying to charge me to watch Samardizja pitch. :x Screw that, I'll watch the UCLA defense batter him up in a few months instead. Anyways, midway through the 5th, Boise leads Tri-City 2-1. Samardzija went 4 and gave up 1 ER, 5 H, 1 BB, 1 K and 1 HBP. Ruzz Canzler, Alfred Joseph and DJ "Hollywood" Lewis have gotten hits for Boise so far.
