  1. Man, I wish Bynum got to play more. yeah.... somewhere else !! St. Louis? If he went to St. Louis he would instantly become great... Just like Weaver and Ponson and Miles... So far so good this season. :D

  3. But you said a guy like Loretta wouldn't improve the team before. This makes more sense. Sure. But they had a rookie CF. Prior's trade value is at his lowest. For someone like Lackey who probably isn't available except for the right price, you'd have to package Prior with someone like Zambrano, etc. I don't see the Angels trading away Lackey. Adding a couple of FA pitchers definitely will improve the team, but the Cubs do have a limited budget. Where is this Barrett for Wells rumor coming from? Why would the Blue Jays make such a horrible trade?
  4. I'm sure soapy has watched a game. Why would soapy be posting here otherwise? You're right, no contender has ever played a rookie. Heck, the WS runner-up last season played a rookie CF. So adding a better second baseman will make the team worse? He counted him as a 5th starter. If that doesn't suit you, notice how he listed 4 potential starters for 2 spots? You could plug in one of the other two. Schmidt is likely to get a smaller deal than someone like Zito because of his age. Schmidt also doesn't give up as many flyballs as Zito - more of which will likely be HRs when half of his games are played at Wrigley as opposed to Oakland. There certainly is a risk in signing Schmidt. The Cubs work on a limited budget and obviously cannot fill all their many holes with just FA signings. Sometimes one must trade from a strength to improve a weakness. Trading away one reliever shouldn't really make a strength into a weakness - and if it does - then the bullpen is not ready for injuries.
  5. It's Walrond...which I see you have in a later post. Never mind.
  6. Daytona's Sam Fuld is officially out for the rest of the season due to his hip injury.
  7. The I-Cubs and Jaxx are basically done. Boise is starting to build up its lead before the back-to-back series against second-place Tri-City. Standings: PCL American North Nashville 74-64 .536 - Iowa 71-67 .514 3.0 --- 6 games remaining SL North Huntsville 38-25 .603 - Chattanooga* 35-30 .538 4.0 --- 5 games remaining Tennessee 35-30 .538 4.0 If Chattanooga wins the SL North again, the Diamond Jaxx will make the playoffs. FSL East Palm Beach 34-27 .557 - --- 5 games remaining for all 3 teams Daytona 35-28 .556 - --- St. Lucie* 35-30 .528 1.0 Peoria already clinched a playoff spot by winning the MWL North in the first half. NWL East Boise 39-29 .574 - --- 8 games remaining (including 6 against Tri-City) Tri-City 35-33 .515 4.0 *First-half division winner.
  8. Already asked him in the stickied thread. :) And don't forget, the Boise game is at home, so you can watch Ceda on video!
  9. It's just a list to honor the best players. It's also league-wide, so it's not split between divisions or whatever.
  10. Peoria announced a while back that reliever Ed Campusano made the MWL post-season All Star team. Today, Boise announced that Russ Canzler (as a DH) and Jeremy Papelbon (as a reliever) made the NWL team. Also, OF Alfred Joseph was the NWL Offensive Player of the Week last week.
  11. Nathan, Could you please tell us what Marco Carrillo looks like? He had great stats at Mesa, but we didn't know what type of pitches he threw, how hard he threw, what stuff he had, etc. Thanks. Also, is Santo going to miss the playoffs?
  12. Probable Starters: Iowa: RHP Wilton Chavez (2-3, 6.84 ERA) @ LHP John Rheinecker 4-4, 2.62 ERA) Peoria: RHP Marco Carrillo (Mesa: 4-0, 1.73 ERA) vs. LHP David Asher (1-2, 4.03 ERA) Boise: RHP Jose Ceda: (0-0, 9.00 ERA; overall: 2-0. 4.15 ERA) vs. RHP Jeremiah Haar (0-0, 3.00 ERA) Mesa: RHP Chris Huseby (0-1, 5.65 ERA) Chavez (at Iowa & Nashville); 79.1 IP, 62 K/38 BB Carrillo (at Mesa); 41.2 IP, 34/10 Ceda (Boise, Mesa & AZL Peoria): 39 IP, 56/21 Huseby: 14.1 IP, 10/6 Marco Carrillo was called up from Mesa for the start - I guess now we'll get to see what type of stuff this 19-year old has! RHP Joel Santo went on the Peoria DL with a sore shoulder.
  13. Thanks for the update, questionmarkgrace. I went ahead and merged your post with the previous DSL thread.
  14. Boise explodes for 5 in the bottom of the 6th. Darin Downs: 2 IP, 1 ER, 2 H, 0 BB, 4 K Tyler Colvin: 1/3, R, HR, 2 RBI, 2 Ks (including one where he swung at strike 3 at his eyes) Russ Canzler: 3/4, 2 R, 3B, K Alfred Joseph: 0/2, 2 R, 2 BB, K Boise leads it 9-4 after 7.
  15. He had the GIDP to get out of the game unscathed, but Cedeno/Bynum couldn't even get one. I doubt anyone would be throwing regular season games at this point anyways, but there's no proof for that. Why would Cedeno/Bynum/Dempster want to throw games? That makes no sense. It doesn't. I don't think anyone is throwing games. This isn't a good team.
  16. Jaxx lose 3-1. In games of importance to the Jaxx' slim playoff chances, Huntsville is rained out and Chattanooga loses. :( Chattanooga now 4 back of Huntsville.
  17. Why would he stick around minus being paid a lot of money? For the joy of watching this trainwreck? And you know Hendry will have a gut attack at paying him more than Derrek Lee. Hendry knows the consequences of not re-sigining, especially given how weak the offense is and how limited the free agent power hitters are. And Aramis supposedly has said he likes playing for the Cubs.
  18. Iowa loses 5-4. Jeff Deardorff hit a 3-run HR with no outs in the 9th to make it 5-1, but the I-Cubs got nothing else. At least Nashville is still losing. Felix: 0/4 EPatt: 0/2, 2 R, 2 BB, 2 K. West Tenn down 3-1 after 7. Mathes' final line: 5 IP, 2 ER, 6 H, 2 BB, 2 K. Miguel Negron is 3/4 with a double. Peoria lost 3-0. Jiminez: 5 IP, 3 ER, 9 H, 1 BB, 2 K. Boise and Spokane are tied at 4 in the bottom of the 6th. Muldowney: 5 IP, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 1 HBP, 3 K. Darin Downs allowed the tying run to score in the top of the 6th.
  19. Enjoying your first weeks of law school much?
  20. He had the GIDP to get out of the game unscathed, but Cedeno/Bynum couldn't even get one. I doubt anyone would be throwing regular season games at this point anyways, but there's no proof for that.
