  1. Still 1-1 as we go to the top of the 19th inning in Jacksonville. The Suns are out of relievers and will have to use position players on the mound the rest of the way (unless they dip in to their starters). Starting catcher AJ Ellis will be pitching now (he already threw once earlier this year, giving up 1 ER in 2.1 innings).
  2. I crack up every time I hear that the Jaxx' trainer is Matt Johnson...I have a close friend with the same name and could never picture him as a trainer. To the 15th we go...this is a great way to start a doubleheader...
  3. Crap, Ed Campusano hurt himself and has to leave the Jaxx game with 2 outs in the 14th inning. Carlos Vasquez is coming in. Ron suggested it might be a back injury but no details as of yet...
  4. Senior WR Joe Cowan, UCLA's leading returning receiver will probably miss the season with a torn ligament in his knee which he suffered in practice last week. :(
  5. It's good to hear Ron again...
  6. Williams isn't pitching like someone who wants to earn his way back to the majors. I'm not sure he even warrants a callup when the rosters expand in September. He had been doing much better until his last couple of starts.
  7. My only guess is Dusty looks at numbers and doesn't recognize sample size. Barrett 1-7 against Kim coming into taday's game. Mabry 1-1 against Kim coming into today's game. Dusty said he moved Barrett down in the order because it was a day game after a night game. :-k
  8. Who cares how he does in spring training? Lots of pitchers struggle there and come out gangbusters during the regular season. The Cubs are probably not going to win next season without a good, healthy Prior (I don't have faith in Hendry having the ability to improve the team enough that Prior would be a 4-5 starter). Four good (including one great) seasons out of five deserves leeway in the form of quite a few regular season starts before. Of course, I think the point is moot if he's healthy next season - it sure seemed like he's been pitching hurt this season, hence the struggles (a la Prior in July & August of '04).
  9. Iowa down 8-1 in the 5th. Jerome: 3 IP, 6 ER, 10 H, 3 BB, 3 K. Peoria down 7-2 after 4.
  10. Fabian Jiminez is struggling in his return to the MWL and Peoria is down 7-2 in the middle of the 2nd. Jesse Estrada is in for the third inning, so Jiminez's final line is: 2 IP, 7 ER, 6 H, BB, HBP, K. Jerome Williams gives up a solo HR to Junior Spivey, and then works around a 2-out single and walk. Iowa is down 5-1 after 2. Jerome: 2 IP, 5 ER, 7 H, 3 BB, 2 K.
  11. Felix Pie leads off the Iowa game with a solo HR on the first pitch! It was to right center and is his 11th of the year. But Memphis lights up Jerome Williams in the first: Leadoff single. RBI double, game tied at 1. BB, runners at first and second. RBI single, runners at the corners. Memphis up 2-1. RBI double, runners at second and third. Memphis up 3-1. RBI IF single, runners at the corners. Memphis up 4-1. K looking, 1 out. BB. Pitcher Ks swinging, 2 outs. FO-9. Jerome: 1 IP, 5 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 35 pitches (23 strikes)
  12. Bruce, you're really turning into one of us. I don't know if that's a good thing. :P
  13. I don't necessarily that's too concerning right now...I'm more interested in seeing his development of an offspeed pitch.
  14. This couldn't be any further from the truth. Getting on the QFT bandwagon here.
  15. This will be Fabian Jiminez's first start for Peoria after being promoted from Boise and this will be 2006 10th rounder Jake Renshaw's first start for Boise after being promoted from Mesa. In Jose Ceda's last 24 IP (he has 29 IP on the season), he has an ERA of 1.50.
  16. Sam Fuld is expected off the DL on Monday. Billy Petrick was placed on the Daytona DL.
  17. Bah, Billy Petrick was placed on the DL Saturday. He's on Mesa's roster but hasn't played. Apparently Darin was supposed to start the season in Peoria but had a "freaky" rib cage injury that forced him to miss a chunk of the season. He was sent to Boise once healthy, but got hurt again. He's on rehab right now in Mesa and should finish the year with Boise...for the third straight season.
  18. Probable Starters: Iowa: RHP Jerome Williams (3-5, 4.45 ERA) WT (game 2): LHP JR Mathes (8-7, 3.39 ERA) vs. RHP TJ Nall (9-5, 3.12 ERA) Peoria: LHP Fabian Jiminez (Boise: 1-0, 1.56 ERA; overall: 6-7, 3.96 ERA) vs. RHP Erik Cordier (2-1, 2.03 ERA) Boise: RHP Jake Renshaw (Mesa: 0-1, 5.57 ERA) vs. RHP Ricky Orta (2-3, 6.41 ERA) Mesa: RHP Jose Ceda: (0-0, 0.00 ERA; overall: 2-0, 4.03 ERA) & RHP Robert Hernandez (3-1, 2.42 ERA) *Take Mesa's probable starter with a grain of salt as they shuffle their pitchers around with frequency. Williams: 87 IP, 41/28 Mathes: 127.1 IP, 84/26, 1.24 WHIP Jiminez (at Boise & Ft. Wayne): 104.2 IP, 64/58, 1.46 WHIP Renshaw (at Mesa): 21 IP, 17/6, 1.53 WHIP Ceda (at Mesa): 6 IP, 9/1, 0.67 WHIP Ceda (at Mesa & AZL Peoria): 29 IP, 40/14, 1.28 WHIP Hernandez: 26 IP, 11/12, 1.27 WHIP
  19. Ugh, Sean Marshall is struggling with his control: Bottom of the 1st- BB Wild Pitch BB Sac bunt, runners to 2nd and 3rd. BB, bases loaded. BB, run scores. GO, 6-4. Run scores. Another run scores on an error on the relay throw by Coats to first base. 2 outs K looking. 1 IP, 0 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 4 BBs, 1 K, 29 pitches (11 strikes) Iowa down 3-0.
  20. Different sporting events, different atmospheres. I'm going to go nuts at the Bruin Den at Pauley or the Rose Bowl, but that's to be expected (and I'll still watch the game). But this sort of going nuts has nothing to do with the wave, which is stupid. Leave the wave to Dodger fans. People show emotion at the Rose Bowl? It seems like they are always sitting on their hands to me. The students show emotion! Now that I believe! I think you need more of you guys though because that's one big stadium. The problem is Pasadena is 25 miles from campus. I never had a problems since my mom lived 10 minutes away, but it can be a pain to get on the shuttle buses or drive that far to a game.
  21. Stock is awesome. :D Most of you have probably seen this already, but oh well:
  22. With some rotator cuff problems this summer (to go along with the theme of the thread right now), BA says Robert Stock has been primarily working as a catcher. He's definitely looked good hitting and shows potential defensively. He'll be back on the mound soon enough, Team USA thinks of him as a two-way player.

  24. Quoting someone who said it better than me. "The problem with the wave is that once it gets started, it's divorced from what is happening on the field. You have a bunch of people doing the wave, and the opposing team scores a run, and they're still doing it." I watched Luis Gonzalez hit a HR for the DBacks hit at Dodger Stadium and when he came home, you could see the wave passing him by in the stands.
