  1. And now Maestri gives up a grand slam, 7-0 Boise down. Of the 6 runs given up by Boise here in the 8th inning, Papelbon gave up 2 and Maestri gave up 4. To the 9th we go...
  2. Boise down 3-0 and Spokane still threatening in the 8th. Mesa lost 4-2. Julio Castillo gave up 3 in relief of Parker. Andersen went 1 for 3 with 2 Ks, Rundle went 2 for 3.
  3. Brackman will be a better major leaguer than an NBA player. Thanks for the link.
  4. The nomination process will close tonight at midnight Pacific time (2 am CT). So far, the nominees: RHP Mitch Atkins, Peoria OF Tyler Colvin, Boise C Jake Fox, Daytona & West Tenn RHP Sean Gallagher, Daytona & West Tenn 3B Scott Moore, West Tenn CF Felix Pie, Iowa LHP Donnie Veal, Peoria & Daytona
  5. Did you get your kicks? I used to live on Route 66. I always got my kicks. :) Gonna swing by LA or just head back east from the Imperial Valley, Fred? Got loaded up last night in San Deigo. Blew through Ontario about 10:30. I did wave to you, tho !! Take the 15 north from SD to the 40, eh? Just wave at the 210 west towards Pasadena in the San Bernardino/Ontario area.
  6. Sean had his best rehab start so far today (6 shutout innings) and should be ready to go in the big leagues the next time he starts. If Sean isn't ready, the Cubs can call up Jerome Williams, Jae-Kuk Ryu or Wade Miller.
  7. Boise down 1-0 after 5. Pawelek: 5 IP, 1 ER, 5 H, 2 BB, 1 HBP, 3 K EDIT: That's Mark's final line. Mesa up 2-1 in the 5th. Andersen and Rundle are 1 for 2 and both have scored a run.
  8. West Tenn is up 2-0 after 1, they touched up Gallardo thanks to a Brandon Sing RBI double and a Richard Lewis RBI groundout. Daytona is up 2-1 after 6. Justin Berg: 5 IP, 1 ER, 7 H, 0 BB, 1 K Ryan Harvey: 0 for 3, 2 strikeouts
  9. My friend filmed that commercial. He got an autograph and a pic with Derrek for his trouble. And he didn't give me anything. :(
  10. Wuertz isn't eligible. Nor is Guzman, Hill, Marmol or Mateo. What's the eligibility requirements? I believe we're going with having enough IP or PA in the minor leagues and not losing rookie eligibility in a previous season. Guzman, Hill, Marmol and Mateo don't have enough innings. But do they all have over 50 IP in the big leagues? Too lazy to look it up. Hill (50.1 IP) and Marmol (71.2 IP) do. Mateo (19 IP) and Guzman (31 IP - but has met the service time requirements for a rookie) are much further away.
  11. I wanted Ronnie Brown but he went 2. Next, I wanted Cadillac. I never warmed to Benson. I still want to see him start, he's the most talented of the 3 the Bears have. I wish this crap would stop, though.

  15. Sean Marshall's fourth inning: Randall Simon singles to RF. Jason Hart pops out to first base. One out. Aarom Baldiris grounds into a FC, 5-4. Baldiris safe at first. Two outs. Baldiris caught stealing/in a run down, but safe at second on an E-6. Tom Gregorio strikes out swinging. Marshall: 4 IP, 0 R, 5 H, 1 BB, 4 K, 64 pitches (41 strikes), 6-2 GO-FO. Iowa is up 1-0 in the bottom of the 4th.

  17. Eric Patterson is one of 10 Futures Game participants who will take place in the AFL. BA lists their 10 prospects to watch (more like 13) in the AFL in today's Daily Dish (no Cubs mentioned).
  18. Sean Marshall's second inning: Jason Hart walks. Aarom Baldris singles to LF, Hart to second. Tim Gregorio grounds into a 5-4-3 DP. Hart to third. Drew Meyer grounds out, 1-3. Sean Marshall's third inning: Anthony Webster grounds out, 3-unassisted. Adam Morrissey strikes out swinging. Joaquin Arias singles to shortstop. Arias steals second base. Adam Hyzdu strikes out looking. Marshall: 3 IP, 0 R, 4 H, 1 BB, 3 K, 50 pitches (30 strikes) Pie: 0 for 2, strikeout Patterson: 1 for 2, single, SB, run, strikeout Soto: 0 for 1, BB, strikeout Iowa leads it 1-0 after 3.
  19. Won't have enough minor league innings when the season is over.
  20. Sean Marshall's first inning: Anthony Webster strikes out swinging. One out. Adam Morrissey singles to RF. Joaquin Arias flies out to RF. Two outs. Adam Hyzdu singles to CF, Morrissey to second base. Randall Simon(!) grounds out to first base. Marshall: 1 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 0 BB, 1 K, 14 pitches (9 strikes) Iowa scores a run in the bottom of the first on an EPatt single, Restovich single, double steal, Soto walk and a McGehee sac fly. Pie: 0 for 1, strikeout Patterson: 1 for 1, single, SB, run Iowa leads 1-0 after 1.
  21. Any ideas when those rosters come out? Here are our players going to instructs: Jesse Estrada, Fabien Jimenez, Mark Reed, Yusuf Carter and Kyle Reynolds. Matt Avery was also on the original list but had already signed up for and paid for classes to finish up at UVA so I believe he is going back to school instead of instructs. Thanks for the heads up on the instructs. The Hawaii Winter League site says rosters will be announced in September but offers no date. I can think of a couple guys at Daytona who might go, not sure about Peoria, though.
  22. I didn't even know OF was an option. Are the Cubs thinking of moving him? He's played a couple of games in the OF recently (partly due to a lack of depth with the Jaxx), but he's listed as a C on the AFL roster. The Indians' Trevor Crowe, who's converting from OF to 2B, is listed as a 2B on the AFL roster.
  23. Last year, NSBB awarded its first ever Minor League Player of the Year award to second baseman Eric Patterson. We will continue that tradition this year by naming one minor leaguer the NSBB 2006 Player of the Year and donating $100 to Cubs Care or the charity of choice for that player (last year, Eric donated his $100 to Hurricane Relief fund). The minor league teams have less than three weeks left in their regular seasons, so we'll be getting started on this right away. The process will be similar to last year. Please make your case for your favorite player in this nomination thread. A poll will then be created, the membership voting will count for 50%. For now, the exact times aren't confirmed for both the nomination and voting process, but will be shortly. The same group that was asked to put together the preseason minor league top 30 will get together as a "panel of experts" to vote. Their votes will also count for 50%. In the case of a split decision, Tim will cast the tiebreaking vote based upon the input from the above processes. Thanks in advance for your participation!
