  1. 10/4: Koerber pitched a shutout 8th inning: 1 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 2 K/2 BB, 32 pitches (17 strikes). Koerber vs. West Oahu in the 8th inning: J. Ford walks. J. Mayberry walks, Ford to second base. M. Stodolka strikes out looking. One out. J. Whittleman grounds a single to LF, bases loaded. E. Frostad strikes out looking. Two outs. S. Kazmar grounds out, 5-3. Koerber so far in Hawaii: 3 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 3 K/2 BB.
  2. The Kent Mercker page has no sponsor? Wow.
  3. The Padres try to fight off elimination in St. Louis and find an offense. RHP Chris Young (11-5, 3.46 ERA, 164 K/69 BB) @ RHP Jeff Suppan (12-7, 4.12 ERA, 104/69). The Padres might also look into not pitching to Albert Pujols.
  4. The Tigers look to wrap up the upset in Detroit, they lead the series 2-1. RHP Jaret Wright (11-7, 4.49 ERA, 84 K/57 BB) @ RHP Jeremy Bonderman (14-8, 4.08 ERA, 202/64).
  5. It's a battle of the ex-Cubs today in Los Angeles, RHP Steve Tracshel (15-8, 4.97 ERA, 79 K/78 BB) vs. RHP Greg Maddux (15-14, 4.20 ERA, 117/37). Mets lead the series 2-0. Game is at 4:30 pm PT, 6:30 CT.
  6. SCHWARZ: Of course, Joel throws harder in his first 20 pitches, while Justin, you'd throw harder after 100 pitches. So here's the question--on pitch No. 50, who's the harder thrower? VERLANDER: We were about even as starters. ZUMAYA: Definitely. As a starter me and Verlander were practically the same. We would throw 96, 97, and next thing you know, seventh inning comes around we'll pop one or two in there that says 100 or 99. VERLANDER: I wouldn't mind coming in as a reliever to see if I could do it.
  7. Wow, I didn't realize Guillen had such a good season.
  8. Wow, Derek Jeter gets the walk on strike 4. Great game for Kenny.
  9. Yeah, my friend got home game #2 too.
  10. I got home game #3 - which isn't guaranteed. it would be game 5 against the yankees or game 6 against the tigers. terrible managing by gardenhire in my opinion. you have to get nathan into the game there with the bases loaded instead of crain. Agreed. The season is on the line, put your best pitcher in there. Agreed. This is the guy who made Nathan pitch 2+ (~50 pitches) against the Yanks in '04. I don't like Gardenhire's in-game decision-making much. He just makes you scratch your head.
  11. My old roommate got tix for the ALCS today too. He's so pumped.
  12. Freaking BA. Who give a crap about the Black Eyed Peas, answer one of my questions instead. I sent a similar question as yours, kc, about Moore-EPatt.
  13. He supposedly will be available this offseason. CR, or anyone, what is the reasoning behind Drew being available? Does Colletti think he is too expensive to keep? If so, I'd swap Jones for Drew in a heartbeat though I don't know if Colletti would. That move would require the Cubs to acquire a really good 4th OFer for when Drew goes on the DL, but for the 400-500 ABs the Cubs will likely get out of him, it would be worth it. Dellucci is a FA and would make an excellent 4th OFer. Aubrey Huff, Luis Gonzalez, Gary Matthews Jr., Trot Nixon, Craig Wilson among others are also possibilities, so if Dellucci doesn't want to come to Chicago, the Cubs would have plenty of other candidates from which to choose. Drew would be an upgrade in OBP most certainly, but possibly not much of an upgrade in SLG which is why I think the main move the Cubs must make is acquiring Andruw Jones. The thing that is nice about Drew is that he is left-handed. And with Lee, Barrett, Ramirez (hopefully) and Murton the likely mainstays of the Cubs offense all being right-handed, any and all good left-handed bats would be welcome. The left-handed Felix Pie will help, but he really would benefit from another half season, at least, in AAA. And I would much rather have a lopsided line-up that can produce runs than a balanced one that can't. Yes, salary concerns is the main reason. I think Drew's SLG will go up once he leaves Dodger Stadium and the NL West (the same for Giles if he ever left Petco and the NL West).
  14. Something tells me that the Cubs wouldn't need Izturis in that scenario. Two LFs and two SSs in the same lineup. :-k It'll be interesting to play with no pitcher or RF.
  15. Guy who yelled at reporters when he got to NY vs. guy who tried to kill camera man?
  16. Should be posted on BA's site in a few hours. According to the Cub reporter, Sean Gallagher came in at #12 and Eric Patterson at #17.
  17. Bill Richardson, not Mark.
  18. Beware. People are going to argue that those inexperienced players flourished all by themselvles and the influence of Girardi had no effect whatsoever on fostering their development. Where did anyone say that? People did say that he didn't manage the team to a winning record and that, while the roster was full of young players worth $15 million, they were still very talented - much more so than most rebuilding teams. Some posters also feel that Girardi might be favored to other candidates because of his past ties to the Cubs.
