9th rounder: Colton Book, RHP, St Joseph's. Unranked by MLB: Unranked by BA too.
-
His college commitment is probably strong enough it has scared teams from taking him in the first 10 rounds, where any unsigned pick means the team also looses that pick's bonus money. I'm sure he'll be picked in rounds 11-20, even if it's unlikely he'll sign. (I think his combination of poor control/velo uptick might not have helped.)

With all these seniors on top of the remaining savings yesterday, they might have another $1 million swing in them. EDIT: Certainly $500k-$750k. Lovich got $650k, Hope $400k.

8th round: RHP Jake Knapp, UNC (senior) Not ranked by Pipeline: Ranked 328th by BA:
-
Pierce Coppola, LHP, Florida (senior). Unranked by MLB: 430th by BA:
-
Benny's son if you want to feel old.
-
BA (167): MLB Pipeline (#108): ESPN rated him 53rd. Same HS as Mikey Romero and Gerrit Cole.
-
BA had Snell as one of their 20 sleepers for today:
-
Yes, because the first $150k doesn't count to the bonus pool and there is no risk of losing pool space in rounds 11-20 like there are in the first 10 rounds.
-
Probably some savings. He's a 23 year old senior.
-
Pipeline (227th): BA (200th): ESPN did not rank him in their top 150.
-
Cubs 5th rounder: OF Kade Snell, Alabama (senior)
-
Yeah, I totally mixed up the draft spot and ranking. ESPN had him 95th so that's two out of the three bigger pubs having him top 100.
-
So if we assume Wing gets ~$1 million, the Cubs are probably out on the Fisher, Appenzeler, Bauer types who'd require $2 million or more (and it sounds like Appenzeler and Bauer are headed to college anyways). I assume the Cubs can swing another ~$1 bonus type in the top 10 rounds and then another big swing in round 11 (but Hope and Lovich got mid-6-figures).
-
Dodgers took Aidan West who Greg Z had said the Cubs liked (would've been another $1M-type bonus).
-
Oops, you're right. 121st pick.
-
But he also took Jackson Ferris (top 25 bonus in his draft year) the last time he went as far underslot as Greg Z assumes Conrad will be. (But Wing is probably more in the Southisene/Mulé low 7-figures bonus area.)
-
ESPN/Kiley had him ranked 95th.
-
BA ranks him 201st:
-
MLB Pipeline ranks Wing 121st:
-
Cubs select: RHP Kaleb Wing, Scotts Valley HS (CA) - Loyola Marymount (CA) commit

On the heels of having a fantastic, college-heavy draft last year too.
