  1. I've been trying to guess what else is on the Cubs shopping list for this deadline, and what deals are still possible after flipping Eloy & Cease. Backup C? LHRP? Another starter, probably more in the Monty 2016 mold? All of the above? Still all for Gausman if you're talking about someone like Monty 2016.
  2. The Cubs can always rebuild their system by trading Wade Davis now.
  3. I know a few of you have mentioned potentially trading Eloy when his trade value was maximized but they definitely did that with Cease. He desperately needs to get increase innings and avoid injuries to avoid being a Georgian Julio Urias.
  4. I know the Rays are still competitive but I wonder how much more expensive Archer would have been. This really clears up a lot of stress in the coming offseason.
  5. Chris Singleton, the kid from Charleston Southern whose mom was murdered at Emmanuel AME Church, made his pro debut today with the AZL Cubs.

  8. Pick 78 ended up being Zagunis. It definitely disappoints to read that and then remember the Cubs were heavy linked to Jack Flaherty with their 2nd round pick the same year. The Cardinals picked him right before the Cubs 2nd rounder, who ended up being Jake Stinnett. Admittedly every team has a few stories like that.

  10. Brett Anderson also got in 4 rehab innings. Rob Zatryzny getting the rehab start for the AZL Cubs.
  11. Good to see. I'd be interested to hear where his velocity was at. Hendricks' final line: 3.1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 45-27 pitches-strikes. Must have hit his pitch count. The run he gave up was inherited by James Pugliese. Not sure he can start on Saturday if he only had a 45 pitch pitch count today.
  12. Hendricks so far: 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, 35-23 pitches-strikes
  13. Scott Efross, not Michael Rucker, will start for Myrtle Beach. Jose Paulino will start for South Bend.
  14. Season ends today, is there anyone who doesn't have Paredes safely tucked inside our top 10? Last I looked I had 5 hitters ahead of him(Eloy, Burks, and the AAA trio), and on the pitching side you've got an increasing number of interesting options plus the draft class. Short answer, I don't know if I would. Agreed. I just came up with a list and had Paredes at 12. Obviously I only put a couple minutes of thought into it, but it shows he's no slam dunk for the top 10. 1. Eloy Jimenez 2. Dylan Cease 3. Adbert Alzolay 4. Brendon Little 5. Alex Lange 6. Jose Albertos 7. Thomas Hatch 8. Charcer Burks 9. Jeimer Candelario 10. Victor Caratini 11. Mark Zagunis 12. Isaac Paredes
  15. 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 10 K on 84 pitches for Alzolay. He and Albertos didn't disappoint.
  16. 4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 8 K for Alzolay. Two of the base runners he allowed were thrown out on the bases - a CS and a pickoff by his catcher.
  17. Rockies rookie lefty just lost a no-hitter to Melky Cabrera with one out in the 9th inning.
  18. Also you have to remember the players aren't robots and likely won't respond well to a white flag trade like that. Even with the Pirates' miserly reputation, knowing full well Melancon was gone in the offseason, McCutcheon and Cole were super pissed when Melancon was traded last deadline (and they got big league pen help in Rivero, not some far away prospect).
