  1. Just so we are on the same page, has there been an updated scouting report on Hjelle that has him gaining velocity? I've only seen 1 game of his and he was 90-92, and was around 90 much more frequently in the 4th and 5th. The reports I've read have him in that same range. I didn't see one plus secondary pitch, although I've seen reports that he has flashed a plus curve. The changeup is average. I will agree that the command is really good though. He's a strikethrower. But he doesn't miss any bats. K/9 under 8 this year in college is a huge red flag for me. It's a testament to his mediocre stuff if he can't even get collegiate players to swing and miss. You have to be 100% sure that Hjelle is going to be able to gain several ticks on the fastball and that he gets consistency with the curve and change. Just because a guy is tall and has a frame to add on to, doesn't mean the velo with increase. People always kept waiting for Chris Volstad, Jon Rauch and Mark Hendrickson to bump up their velos, but it never happened. Volstad is actually the guy that comes to mind when I see Hjelle. Maybe Chris Young on the high side. Neither are ideal, although early career Chris Young had a season or two that were solid. That’s still the scouting report I’ve seen for Hjelle. He’s kind of disappointed this season. I took the whole mock with a grain of salt after seeing Singer at 2 but I’m with you on picking another college arm with a 4/5 ceiling in the first.
  2. The Eugene rotation should be fun. Correa and Ramos can work upper 90s and while Marquez and Estrada slower, we’ve consistently seen reports of 90-95 which will play.

  5. South Bend got no-hit and lost 10-0.
  6. He has said in the past one of the main reasons he took a huge leap last year was that he sped things up and stopped thinking so much on the mound. So I could see a situation where he overdoes it like his second start and this is more normal for him but plenty fast compared to most pitchers.
  7. Schwarber should’ve kept going home. It was clearly the only chance he’d have scored.

  9. Dammit probably. They also could wait until July if they can stay afloat and trade for Machado and sneak under luxury tax. Which is what I think they’ll do. Can’t see any team paying the premium for the extra months of Machado right now so he won’t be going anywhere, and they don’t need to commit to this season unless they’re still competitive in a few months.
  10. Jonathan Mayo mock draft: https://www.mlb.com/news/projections-for-all-30-first-round-draft-picks/c-274577288?tid=151437456 Not sure how good a mock is when it has Singer at #2 overall but anyways, here are some other names that have been mentioned around here: Triston Casas at 13, Jonathan India at 14, Cole Winn at 15, Ethan Hankins at 18, Trevor Larnach at 21, Ryan Weathers at 22, Kumar Rocker at 23, Noah Naylor at 25 and Connor Scott at 28.
  11. I have to say I absolutely love how Pace actually drafts offensive linemen early nearly every year.
  12. Nothing irrational about hating a team that hit Kris Bryant in the head and has a player who whines to the ump about Javy Báez trying to block him from stealing signs.

  15. Don’t know why they aren’t making him a starter. But great to see them potentially not maximize his value. They’ve also relegated Woodruff to the bullpen, which is weird. Hah. The 3 runs the Brewers scored in the 7th were more runs they scored the entire 4-game series against the Cubs.

  17. 5 no-hit innings now. Don’t know this is possible with Duke in person.
  18. Miguel Amaya (73 PA): .292/.370/.538, 11.0% BB%, 17.8% K% and a 152 wRC+ as a 19-year old catcher in A-ball.
  19. Sounds like Gerrit Cole a few years back and his “the Cubs aren’t that good” talk. That tourned out for the Pirates well...... Jake kicked their dick in, in the WC Game and we scared them in to a rebuild. I think cole's "I don't think the cubs are the best team" comment came in early 2016, which is even worse. The cubs turning into a juggernaut has really broken a lot of people's brains. I love it. And there was Josh Harrison singing "No Cubs no" after one of the Pirates 4 wins that year. The Pirates went 4-14 in 2016 against the Cubs. The Brewers can only hope they can get their winning percentage up to .222 against the Cubs this year.
