  1. Time to feel old again: Craig Hodges' son is a prep prospect expected to be picked high in the 2019 draft.
  2. Cubs offering that makes sense. Kris turning that down makes sense. Of course I have no idea how accurate Kaplan is. He was saying Maddon would be out if the Cubs lost to the Rockies and...
  3. He’s an Astro so isn’t that the same thing?
  4. Nico ended up going 0/4 with 3 Ks. He's on the taxi squad so he gets to sit on that performance till the weekend. No other Cubs played tonight.
  5. Nico is batting 6th, playing short for Mesa. He just struck out swinging in a 6-pitch AB against arguably the best pitching prospect in baseball, Forrest Whitley.
  6. I imagine the Stanford swing is going away. Last year was Stanford's first year with a new coach after Mark Marquess retired. To the point of Nico's scouting reports, I feel like a lot of the media reports have said they are updating their reports and were too light on him in the past (more power is the biggest note I keep seeing). I think this shows more about the weaknesses of prospect scouting reports in the media and what info they can get rather than a negative about actual MLB scouts. We already saw the gap in info on Roederer as some teams saw him when he was healthy and didn't want to give out their more glowing reports to the media and tip off other teams.
  7. Davell, Mills has one more option year. He’s a rare 4 option guy. I assume Tseng will get taken off the 40-man and might not be back in the organization in 2019.
  8. NWL Top 20 Prospects: 3. Brailyn Márquez, LHP - Brailyn was only behind Joey Bart and Hans Crouse and ahead of prospects like Xavier Edwards and Julio Pablo Martínez. 8. Nelson Velázquez, OF
  9. Atlanta hasn’t scored in 2 games and now gets Walker Buehler in Game 3.
  10. The Mesas had their workout today: https://www.mlb.com/news/mesa-brothers-hold-showcase-impress-scouts/c-297190688?tid=151437456 Apparently Marc Anthony was there.
  11. Richard Gallardo Unless he gets assigned to South bend, I don't think he'll be in the conversation for number one in the system until the following year. If someone outside of full season ball is #1, that probably means that a lot has gone wrong with the other guys. Yes, it would take an aggressive and unlikely assignment. He doesn’t have to start at full season, just end there for a few months to be rated very highly considering his pedigree.
  12. Other names I'm hoping can be part of that conversation (for good reasons) Brennan Davis (stays healthy, performs with an aggressive assignment at SB) Nelson Velazquez (improves contact while maintaining or growing power) Aramis Ademan (bounces back in big way, makes it to Tenn as a 20 year old) Brailyn Marquez (stays healthy for full year, perhaps gains another tick and refines offspeed) Brendon Little (uh, does a lot better) Richard Gallardo
  13. Next Tuesday. Mesa plays at 6:35 p.m. MST.
  14. I'm thinking more a guy who will be able to play three straight games next season and someone with Dexter-like speed, at least. So....Harper? Or Kris.
  15. We have one. He had the biggest go-ahead hit in Cubs history.
  16. Also re: the Dodgers being investigated by the FBI. I'm never not going to stop laughing at the Dodgers rating their employees on how big a criminal each is.
  17. Eloy and Torres are Cuban, aren’t they? And beautiful Jorge Eloy is Dominican and Torres is Venezuelan. Close enough to Cuba.
  18. We need a guy who can put the bat on the ball in clutch situations (to move runners over, to hit a sacrifice fly, etc.). I'm tired of watching batter after batter swing for the fences and then strike out with men in scoring position. We have too many all-or-nothing hitters. You should have watched the 2018 season then if you didn't want guys swinging for the fences.
  19. Amaya ends the season as the 87th ranked prospect by MLB.com.
  20. Miguel Amaya made the BA top 20 MWL prospects at 12. He’s the first Cub to make a league list so far (they’ve gone through the PCL, SL and CL too so far):
  21. With Soto, the Nationals are about as well-set to lose a Bryce Harper in his prime as any team could possibly be. Just wild. Sounds like Atlanta is going to be a contender for Bryce too.
