  1. Dane Brugler at the Athletic had a mock draft today. Had Trevor Lawrence going at 1, Zach Wilson at 2, Justin Fields at 6, Trey Lance at 8 and had the Bears getting Northwestern OL Rashawn Slater at 14 (the second OL drafted after Penei Sewell). One might disagree with the specific order of the QBs drafted but it does seem reasonable to think that the top 4 QBs would be gone by 8. Hopefully the Bears can lose their way into the top 8 (and Washington can win their division) because Pace will definitely trade away too many draft picks to flail at another QB. I really hope Pace doesn't get another chance to pick a QB.
  2. I like what I've read of Dobbs. I'm not sure they're going to part with Pace or Nagy this offseason.
  3. Do you guys think the Bears will ever have a good QB?
  4. Sound like South Bend and Eugene will both be high-A affiliates next year so it’s not shocking the Cubs would pick the one much closer. I imagine Myrtle Beach will probably become their A-ball affiliate so the Cubs don’t have to worry about going to Florida or getting one of the hitter-friendly affiliates in California. https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/mlb-nears-decision-on-120-full-season-minor-league-clubs-for-2021/
  5. Mustache Man can’t stop, won’t stop
  6. The best prospect when Theo took over was Brett Jackson (lol) A good friend who is much more of a casual fan texted me “You think he’s better than Brett Jackson???” when they traded for Rizzo. At least your friend didn’t confuse Jackson with Clayton Kershaw.
  7. Be careful. Modzilla once warned me when I tried to Duck the Fodgers. Well yeah, the Dodgers deserve the actual f word.

  9. The pitching infrastructure the last 5 years has been pretty depressing. Hopefully Breslow is as good as progressive folks seem to think.
  10. Time to root for a school I actually went to Don't bring your stink to Jon M. Davis' Alma Mater.
  11. MLS = MACtion
  12. Honestly, the rebuilding years were probably the most invested I had ever been in the Cubs in my whole life. Theo had a lot to do with that, but if they blow it up and pull in some big prospects/youngsters I actually think I might be more interested than I have been the last couple of years. Back then, there were minor league game threads with more posts than a week of big league game threads.
  13. Porter seems the most likely. I wish they could poach Josh Byrnes from the Dodgers but I'm not sure the Cubs GM position is even a lateral move for him (he's a VP of Baseball Operations and the Dodgers haven't had a formal GM since Farhan Zaidi left for San Francisco). Byrnes did work closely with Theo and Jed in Boston. Wasn’t Josh Byrnes the original rumor for the role Hoyer wound up with? Yep.
  14. Yeah, Sharma's article from yesterday indicated that Kantrovitz and/or Craig Breslow are due to get promoted, and they're looking at Porter or Amiel Sawdaye from Arizona as outside hires. Sawdaye, for people who don't know, was under Theo and Jed back in Boston. 15. Prospects Live starts us off. 1. Brennen Davis - 55 OFP 2. Ed Howard - 55 3. Miguel Amaya - 55 4. Brailyn Márquez - 55 5. Adbert Alzolay - 50 6. Christopher Morel - 50 7. Richard Gallardo - 45 8. Luis Verdugo - 45 9. Chase Strumpf - 45 10. Ryan Jensen - 45
  16. I wish... but somehow the Bears would horsefeathers that up too.
  17. Those 3 first are pretty problematic for Milwaukee when Giannis is in Miami in 2021-22.
  18. And Muschamp is out. He's making $21 million in buyout money from SEC schools. I wish someone would pay me 1% of that to not work for them.
  19. MLB Pipeline: Here's the state of the Cubs' farm system
  20. From MLBTR: "As for the Rays, they picked up the younger, 19-year-old Martinez who now ranks as their No. 21 prospect at MLB.com and Baseball America as well as their No. 31 prospect at FanGraphs. The lack of a minor league season makes it impossible to really evaluate the younger Martinez’s 2020 season. That said, he posted a .311/.388/.437 slash through 233 plate appearances back in 2019 and adds some depth to the lower levels of one of MLB’s best farms." If he ranks #21 or #31 in the Rays system, he would probably be close to the top 10 in our system. He was 19 in BA, 28 on MLB Pipeline (this is probably an obsolete ranking if he's 21 for the Rays), 22 on Fangraphs.
  21. Matt Miller had a mock this week with all 4 in the top 9 (Lawrence, Fields, Lance and Wilson in that order). Bears got Mac Jones at 18 (Kyle Trask was picked ahead of Jones so 6 QBs went top 18).
