  1. This is a 16-year old the Cubs signed in December:
  2. https://www.fangraphs.com/prospects/the-board/2020-international/summary?sort=-1,1 Fangraphs rates Christian Hernandez as the 2nd best prospect in 2020. He's going to get a $3 million bonus (BA says $3.5 million), which would tie for the biggest IFA bonus the Cubs have given in the pool era (Quintero is the other at $3 million; Eloy at $2.8 were the previous highs). Also:
  3. BA had a mock draft earlier this week. In this mock, Carlos Collazo of BA alternated picks with a front office executive who focuses on the draft at a national level. Collazo got the Cubs pick: https://www.baseballamerica.com/rankings/mlb-mock-draft/ Prep RHP Mick Abel and prep OF Robert Hassell went in the next two picks and I'd much prefer either of them (and Collazo said he thought about going with Hassell for the Cubs).
  4. Clarke has 4-seam and sinker, both low-to-mid 90s plus a spike curve which was one of the best in the draft. Has the makings of a back-end rotation piece or a late inning reliever.
  5. Brailyn Maybe Keegan Thompson or Justin Steele but I think injuries have sapped any meaningful chance of them starting in the majors.
  6. Heston Kjerstad hit 4 home runs this weekend for Arkansas.
  7. Riley Thompson and Kohl Franklin in these pics.
  8. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/zips-top-100-prospects/ ZiPS Top 100 prospects: 14. Miguel Amaya 38. Brennen Davis 53. Nico Hoerner 58. Cory Abbott
  9. Emerson Hancock was roughed yesterday. Cole Wilcox fared much better today:
  10. https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/biggest-strength-weakness-for-every-mlb-farm-system-entering-2020/#Cubs Names not mentioned by Tom: Pertuz at 23 and Short at 28.
  11. Also from the Longenhagen chat:
  12. BA ranked the Cubs farm the 22nd best in baseball but they also ranked Cleveland, NYY and Texas ahead of the Cubs which I don't understand. https://www.baseballamerica.com/rankings/2020-mlb-organization-talent-rankings/
  13. BA did a podcast on the Cubs top 10 prospect list, clearly before their top 100 list came out. They're really low on Miguel Amaya, which I disagree with. They mentioned some guys who were considered for the back end of their top 10: Adbert Alzolay, Tyson Miller, Kevin Made and Ronnier Quintero. https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/2020-chicago-cubs-top-10-prospects-podcast/
  14. https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/2020-mlb-international-prospects-preview-catchers-to-watch/ On top of potentially the top IFA in next year's class, Dominican SS Christian Hernandez, the Cubs are also linked to Venezuelan catcher Moises Ballesteros. Ballesteros bats lefty, produces hard contact and has a strong arm. https://www.instagram.com/p/B1SI7O3gBpj/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link
  15. I’m guessing the White Sox would have to trade for cap space to be able to afford Colás after this signing. He’s probably going to demand ~$4 million.
  16. Badler had the same news earlier today. Really wish they had given adequate IFA penalties to the Astros. Badler made it sound like this future Astro isn't as good as the guys he rated 1a and 1b, SS Christian Hernandez (linked to the Cubs) and a SS linked to the Rays.
  17. MLB Pipeline released each team’s best non-top-100 prospect: https://www.mlb.com/news/prospects-missed-top-100-list?t=mlb-pipeline-coverage Cole Roederer was the Cubs choice, so now we know MLB Pipelines’s top 5 prospects for the Cubs.
  18. BA ranked the top 100 international signings from 2019 (post-July 2nd): https://www.baseballamerica.com/rankings/2019-international-top-100-prospects/ 14. Ronnier Quintero 20. Kevin Made 70. Brayan Altuve Regarding the Cubs strategy of going after only a couple of high-end prospects, I found it interesting the Yankees and Dodgers did the same thing. The Yankees only had 2 in the top 100 - #1 and #62 while the Dodgers had 2 also - #2 and #38. The Yankees had to forgo their agreement with the #10 ranked prospect last year because they couldn't acquire cap space.
  19. The Cubs signed someone from Spain: https://www.thecubreporter.com/01272020/cubs-2019-20-international-signing-period-j-2-players
  20. Man I hope he falls to us It’s wild - FG has Veen at 7 and BA at 26. BA knocked him down recently, saying it was because of swing-and-miss issues that popped up last summer.
  21. Here’s the list: http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2020?list=prospects FYI, Paredes was 100 for BA and Lowe, Díaz and Stephenson didn’t make their list.
  22. Players We Believe Could Make The 2021 Top 100:
  23. MLB Pipeline will release their top 100 this Saturday.
