Yeah, I imagine it's merely a matter of 40 man messiness at this point. I wouldn't be surprised if by August 1st any/all of these guys are out of the org (the latter two would be by trade rather than DFA): Sogard Lobaton Arrieta Ortega Maples Brothers That'll mostly be in service of bringing in better like-for-like options, but should still provide the opportunity to get a look at Leeper or (less likely) Ethan Roberts. Mekkes probably warrants a look before Roberts (obviously Leeper deserves the first chance of anyone not on the 40-man).

Schalffer's final line: Of all the years to get rid of SS A ball, the year immediately after a complete shutdown of minor league baseball probably wasn't the best one. At least for the prep draft picks from 2020, as well as some of the teenage IFAs. I don't know if Caissie is ready for full season A ball (especially with the older than usual pitching staffs there this year), but it sure looks like he needs to be challenged more than he will be in the ACL. Eugene would have been perfect. Yep. And Howard would likely benefit from Eugene too.

It's a risky proposition considering his injury history, but he's looked really good so far... He's got at least two good pitches, probably 3. FBs sitting 94, curve (or whatever it is) has good shape and was effective. Don't remember seeing a change-up tonight, but he's supposed to have a really good one a few years ago. Danis Correa's FB is a plus pitch, but he doesn't have much else. That guy is definitely a reliever only. But Estrada's arsenal can definitely play as a starter. Now his arm/body has to hold up... I know he's missed a lot of time with injuries but I view it as just one injury: He missed the end of 2017 and all of 2018 with a sprained UCL which the Cubs tried going the rest route rather than surgery. Then, he pitched a little in 2019 before getting Tommy John surgery on the elbow. He definitely needs the innings even if he doesn't end up a starting pitcher in the end.
