  1. So Jack Leiter is now working 96-100 (if the TV gun is to be believed) which was definitely not something he could do last year.
  2. As bad as the Bears have been at drafting and developing QBs, their inability to do so with pass rushers is equally bad. Floyd never developed into a pass rusher and before that wasn't Mark Andersen the last one? And Anderson was basically a 1-year wonder. They've plugged pass rush through free agency and trade for the most part this century - Quinn, Mack, Peppers, Ogunleye.
  3. refresh my memory, what was it about? I believe that former bears staffer and occasional XFL exec Greg Gabriel said something about suspecting the bears didn’t want Ballard since he was a part of the organization and knows what needs to be fixed? Massive organizational shifts the Bears weren't comfortable with (but were likely necessary).
  4. Well said. I was trying to think of how to say that Pace would get killed for trading for Wentz, while Ballard would mae it look interesting. Partly due to their respective success at the QB position, partly due to the rest of the roster and chance for success. I think Wentz will be pretty good for the Colts. Also, every time I see the Colts/Ballard discussed (a lot living in Indiana) I think about how the Bears were considering him for GM before hiring Pace. I was routing for Ballard then and I really like him in Indy, especially after he had to deal with the Josh McDaniels stuff. Hate reading why Ballard lost the job to Pace when he was right.
  5. ZiPS top 100 prospects: https://blogs.fangraphs.com/zips-2021-top-100-prospects/ 27. Miguel Amaya 86. Brennen Davis 96. Cory Abbott
  6. This class would have been the 7/2/2021 class before the rule changes. Prospect linked to the Cubs per Peloteros International: Adán Sánchez, C, Panama Prospects Linked to the Cubs by BA: 22. Adán Sánchez, C, Panama 28. Alexis Hernández, SS, Dominican Republic 34. Jefferson Rojas, SS, Dominican Republic Eric Longenhagen's Board at FanGraphs (2/16/21): Rodrick Arias, SS, Dominican Republic - NY Yankees Jonathan Mejía, SS, Dominican Republic - St Louis Jarlin Susana, RHP, Dominican Republic - San Diego (was eligible for the 2021 class, deferred to 2022 for a larger bonus) Dyan Jorge, CF, Cuba - Colorado (was eligible for the 2021 class, deferred to 2022 for a larger bonus) Cristian Vaquero, RF, Cuba - Washington Oscar Colás, RF, Cuba - Miami Ismael Javier, SS, Dominican Republic There are two 1/15/2023 prospects who would technically be eligible in fall 2022 because of the change in the draft class period (with the old rules, they would have been eligible 7/2/2022). There's a chance a team with a most of their bonus money still available could poach them before 2023: https://blogs.fangraphs.com/international-player-update/ Felnin Celestin, SS, Dominican Republic - Seattle Brandon Mayea, CF, Cuba - NY Yankees
  7. Yeah - shocked Amaya isn't ahead of Márquez. Márquez - 113 Preciado - 133 (literally Eric's last 50 FV guy)
  8. Keith Law's Cubs top 20: https://theathletic.com/2376097/2021/02/17/keith-law-prospect-rankings-cubs/ 1. Brennen Davis 2. Brailyn Márquez 3. Miguel Amaya 4. Adbert Alzolay 5. Ed Howard 6. Kohl Franklin 7. Ryan Jensen 8. Yohendrick Piñango 9. Riley Thompson 10. Reginald Preciado 11. Chase Strumpf 12. Cole Roederer 13. Chris Clarke 14. Christopher Morel 15. Yovanny Cruz 16. Rafael Morel 17. Michael McAvene 18. Yeison Santana 19. Owen Caissie 20. Ethan Hearn Others of Note: DJ Herz, Ronnier Quintero, Ismael Mena, Justin Nwogu, Burl Carraway
  9. R isn’t gone. The Cubs will still have a team in the AZL so I don’t think anything will change for HS kids in draft year. A- (shortseason NWL) is gone so I expect most second year kids will stay in Mesa for extended spring training and then in June, the better ones will go to A Myrtle Beach rather than start the new season in the AZL in June. I’m sure a guy like Ed Howard who is considered more advanced will have every chance start his first full year in full season. Also, the Cubs will have a chance to go back to two AZL affiliates in 2022.
  10. Seems odd with Eugene no longer being part of the system and everyone missing a year of game action. The only thing I can think of is they want to protect arms and are worried about innings pitched coming off a missed season.
  11. Kiley had us at 22nd, and basically said that we're on the upswing but lack the top 100 types that tend to drive those rankings. He also said the Cubs could be at the top of the rankings in 2 years, which is what many of us have been hoping with the acquisition of so many talented but greener prospects.
  12. Well then, I see no reason for the Bears to offer a first for Wentz.
  13. Coby looking good
  14. BA released theirs today too and have the Cubs at 17.
  15. Completely agree. Not sure how well national lists will handle a canceled season but it looks like most of his changes were due to trades or graduations (that’s fair, that’s probably the only truly accurate info you have).
  16. Trading Thaddeus would help a lot. He's like the 2nd or 3rd best player on this team right now. Plus you should be able to get a late first for him.
  17. Hey, it’s a 5 player draft.
