Noooo! :( With Prior and Woody healthy, that 0.49 can be made up in half the season.

I like to think I stay pretty up-to-date with our minor leaguers, and remember most names from the past....but Gissell, this one I am clueless. What is his background and the link to the Cubs? Looks like he has some respectable numbers there for Memphis (I like the ERA and 3/1 K/BB ratio) Chris was a Cubs 4th round pick out of HS in 1996 who was thought of pretty highly in the late '90s (he cracked #3 in BA's top 10 Cubs list in 1999 or 2000). I guess he's about 27 now.

Daytona: LHP Yorkin Ferreras (0-2, 8.53 ERA) vs. RHP Brett Smith (4-4, 5.26 ERA).

I don't think I would have a problem with that. Once the Jaxx season is over if they wanted to call him up to be a pinch runner and get the occasional spot start, it could be good for him. I really hope they let him finish his season at West Tenn. though. Agreed, I don't know if their season, plus playoffs, will be over before the end of the regular season though. It should be. I don't want to see Felix in the big leagues (I'm indifferent to Sept. call-ups) till midseason 2006.

Neither of them have played yet, Mesa had the day off yesterday. I assume Corey and Jason will be in Mesa's lineup today.

West Tenn: RHP Carlos Marmol (1-1, 6.08 ERA, 13.1 IP) @ LHP Nic Ungs (3-4, 3.92 ERA) - thanks Ron! Daytona: RHP Alfredo Polanco <--not sure due to all those rain outs Peoria: RHP Jesse Estrada (4-8, 5.13 ERA) vs Ivan Blanco (2-1, 4.03 ERA) - thanks Serena! Boise: LHP Darrin Downs (2-1, 2.45 ERA)

Game over on a 1-2-3 DP. The World team wins, 4-0. Justin Huber was named the MVP.

I've read that he'd prefer a Cubs hat if he makes the Hall. Is he still a Marlin FO employee? Yes, which was why I was surprised with the Cubs hat. I can see why Adam Loewen's had major control problems the past few seasons. Yeesh.
  9. CaliforniaRaisin
Yup, looks like he just missed it. :(

Walk-balk-walk and here comes Moore with a pitching change first. Loewen pitching to Moore. Takes ball 1 outside. Takes strike 1 outside corner. Takes ball 2 HIGH. Moore flies out to left-center (to Montanez), about 5 feet from the warning track. Man, Moore looks big, and his bat looks small.
  11. CaliforniaRaisin
    Scott Moore on deck!
  12. CaliforniaRaisin
Montanez up with the bases loaded and 2 outs. Takes ball 1. Takes ball 2 outside. Flies out to CF. Luis goes 1 for 3, with a HBP and 2 Rs.
  13. CaliforniaRaisin
I was disappointed to not see Carlos Quentin too.
  14. CaliforniaRaisin
Don't let it happen again. :P
  15. CaliforniaRaisin
Andre Dawson (in a Cubs hat) sighting!
  16. CaliforniaRaisin
    Chris Moore, eh? Poor Scott.
  17. CaliforniaRaisin
And Montanez scores his second run of the game. 4-0, World.
  18. CaliforniaRaisin
Montanez singles to RF on the first pitch. He's 1 for 2 with a HBP and a run.

My MILB.com won't load on my computer, so hopefully someone else can link these stats. LHP Justin Jones is pitching for high-A Ft. Myers (FSL) in the Twins system. He's 2-1 with a 4.91 ERA, 8 SOs and 5 BBs in 3 starts/14.2 IP. RHP Chris Gissell is pitching for AAA Memphis (PCL) in the Cardinals system. He's 7-5 with a 2.62 ERA, 104 SOs, 30 BBs in 113.1 IP.

We really need to discuss this. I'm a poor college grad, but I'm willing to chip in for you on this one! :D
  21. CaliforniaRaisin
Man, Andy LaRoche is still in the game. FREE MOORE!
  22. CaliforniaRaisin
No, he didn't. Kevin Thompson (NYY) did.
  23. CaliforniaRaisin
Eww, Chris Lambert (St. Louis) pitching. He said he wants to pitch like Mark Prior. He needs to keep his Cardinals cooties away from Mark.
  24. CaliforniaRaisin
2-RBI double for Justin Huber, Montanez is the second run to score. The World now leads 3-0. Ian Snell is struggling big time (and now he has been pulled).
  25. CaliforniaRaisin
Monty up again. Takes ball 1 outside. Bunt attempt, but Luis is HBP.
