  1. I believe he K'd 4 of the last 6 he faced. His PC will get him out of the game early. He's around 110 pitches. 111 pitches and he's done after 6. Aardsma in. 9 Ks, 2 BBs, 1 HBP, 4 Hs, 0 R for Pinto.
  2. Man, Pinto is on. 9 Ks through 6 IP, Jaxx lead 3-0.
  3. Scotty Poddy has a strained muscle in his left leg. It will be interesting to see how the White Sox' top prospect does in the big leagues.
  4. What team do you see winning 90?? This group of wildcard contenders don't look too strong. Anyone know what's the lowest win total to take the wildcard?? I don't know.. but in 2003 we took the division with only 87... :) 88. My bad, you're right.. I think 87 might have been the 2001 win total. I was thinking we won 88 last year, and I knew we won one more last year than in 03... but we actually won 89. That team could easily have won 92-93 games.. Actually, the '01 team won 88 too.
  5. I thought it was Illinoisans? And you forgot the bad driver part. Believe me, people from Illinois are not that bad of drivers. Go to New Jersey or Ohio for a little while and you'll realize that. Californians are bad.
  6. What about Wainwright?
  7. How did it feel to get all that press this past offseason and be considered the top Cubs prospect and one of the 25 best prospects (at least according to BA) in all of baseball? What do you consider to be your biggest strength and weakness at the plate? How do you address this weakness?
  8. Release Wellemeyer. No loss @ all. Majorly disagree. raisin, what do you see in Welle? He has the pitches to be a bottom of the order starter - he posted an ERA of 3 at AAA in 11 starts this year. He could also be a good set-up man. The Cubs need to give him a proper role and not dust him off once every week in blow outs. I dont mean to pick a bone with you, but I dont see it. lower to mid 90's fastball, ok slider, changup...and limited success at AAA. it seems like every time he gets called up his head implodes and he cant find the strikezone. do you think he needs to start? He needs regular playing time to succeed. He doesn't get it in the big leagues (except for about two weeks in May) and that's why I think he struggles more with his control in the big leagues. He gets proper playing time in the minors and does well. If only Choi could play ever day...... And the song plays on.... It's Dusty fault. doo dooo. Dusty's fault. dooo dooo. It rained today and was Dusty's fault. doo doooo :D it'd be one thing if your boy glendon had pitched well tonight and you were over here taunting people about their preference for youngsters. it's just mind-boggling that you're still doing it after rusch got rocked. It's one poor game. The guy hasn't started for a few months. His ERA was 3.32 as a starter. He was the best option for tonight. But Welly doesn't get the same flack for his first relief appearance and big league appearance in months (AND he cleaned up one of Rusch's messes)? Welly got 1 frikken out tonight, and had to be pulled before he let 6 more men on. Rusch sukked, whereas there isn't a word in the dictionary to describe how bad Welly was. And you're going to judge a player by one bad outing, to the point of wanting to cut him? Especially when he could be used in a trade?

  10. If he can't make it here, then he's a commodity that can be sent to the teams that can use him. Why do you want Welly cut from the organization, yet clamor for Rueter to be signed? What can the Cubs get for him?? Seriously? Could catch lightning in a bottle w/ Reuter. At least he's had success in the majors, and can't be much worse than Hill, Mitre or Welly. Not by himself, using him as part of a package he's a valuable component. Besides, he's not taking anyone's space that's needed before the end of the season, no need to be wasteful by cutting him. Rueter has been terrible. We're better off seeing what we have in Rusch/Hill/Mitre/Welly/etc. than hoping to get 4 good starts out of a guy who never had good stuff whose age is catching up to him. I'll give Rusch a shot. The other 3 shouldn't be starting in a wildcard chase. Obviously Rusch did fantastic today. And the Cubs aren't in the wildcard chase.

Wait, you want Reuter over Hill, Mitre or Welly? Reuter had success when he could get that FB up over 80 mph. I'd rather lose 8 - 4 than 15 - 4. And Reuter is going to help accomplish that? 2-7, 5.95 ERA, 25 Ks, 47 BBs, 1.66 WHIP and a low 80s fastball. I'd rather the Cubs try to see what they have with the youth for next year rather than try another veteran.

I reeally dont know anything about him other then the occasional call up for these types of games, then he disappears to Iowa. I'd say his changeup is better than ok, but otherwise, I think you're right. I think those 3 pitches are enough to get by as a competent #5 starter in this day and age.

Throw the towel in. No, a bottom of the order starter for the Cubs. I'd rather him start than Jerome Williams. I don't see why his age is so important. And cutting him would be a waste, trade him if you want. If the guy can't get it going by now, doubtful he ever will. Disagree. There have been quite a few pitchers who have succeeded after age 26 (without previous big league success). Welly has the stuff to do it, and he has never been given a proper chance before in the big leagues.

  18. Reuter and someone from Double A. Sisco..er umm..Guzman..er um..O screw them all........... Isnt Sisco with Royals? ... and Guzman is injured. Guzman is healthy again and should be pitching for Mesa tonight.
  19. Release Wellemeyer. No loss @ all. Majorly disagree.
  20. Yes. CUBS are 15-10 when the temperature is 85 degree or above It's because of all those dark-skinned minorities on the team. ;)
  21. I have Angel going last Wednesday and Pina going last Thursday, which would be the proper 4-days rest (this based on the 8/10 and 8/11 game threads). Also, Guzman went after Pawelek last time and Mark was Mesa's last starter. Thanks, Nathan! I'll edit that in.
  22. I missed this because I was out of town, but kudos to DJAXX! Great job! :)
  23. Iowa: LHP Rich Hill (3-1, 4.53 ERA) @ RHP Ryan Jensen (1-7, 6.00 ERA) Peoria: RHP Jesse Estrda (6-9, 5.15 ERA) @ RHP Ross Ohlendorf (8-9, 4.88 ERA) Boise: RHP Mitch Atkins (1-5, 5.59 ERA) @ Sergio Romo (5-0, 1.58 ERA) Mesa: RHP Angel Guzman (0-0, 0.00 ERA, 2 IP) I hope I got the Mesa starter right.
