  1. i'm very upset that farns was traded. i think a lot of fans buy into the 'he was bad for team chemistry' line and are glad that he's gone....as evidenced by the boos he got when he came in. oh good, the continuing effort to have wood's arm fall off will continue. Dusty took care of Prior's arm earlier in the game. If only this game could go to extras so Dusty could take care of Z's arm too.
  2. Because Dusty doesn't think Glendon is pitching bad? Dusty did skip a Jerome Williams start earlier this year.
  3. Novoa couldn't have had that 1-2-3 inning in the 7th, of course.
  4. Veal also had 2 WPs and a Balk. Any thoughts on where he'll start next season? And Pawelek! with 2 WPs and a HBP. I expect both to start the season in Peoria. Good to see another good start out of Donald (or Donnie) up in Boise, despite the control.
  5. Well he was at 122 when the at-bat started. The time to complain was then, not after the count was 2-2 and there were 5 foul balls. He shoulda been taken out before the Giles AB. I didn't see anything before the Furcal AB, but he was taxed there too.
  6. Good thing everyone but Dusty could see the altering of mechanics as Prior topped 120. Ugh.
  7. Iowa: LHP Raul Valdes (5-6, 5.90 ERA) West Tenn: RHP Ricky Nolasco (11-3, 3.26 ERA) Daytona: LHP Chris Shaver (2-2, 2.25 ERA, 28 IP) @ LHP Oscar Alvarez (2-0, 1.88 ERA) Peoria: RHP Mike Billek (2-0, 3.42 ERA) @ RHP Mark McCormick (1-1, 2.83 ERA) - Cards' supplemental first rounder Boise: RHP Matt Avery (1-2, 4.66 ERA, 38.2 IP)
  8. Hey Sam, thanks for taking your time to answer our questions! Why did you choose to go across the country from New Hampshire to Stanford for college baseball? I went to a few Stanford-UCLA games at Jackie Robinson Field/UCLA. I remember one game your senior year where you hit a HR and had quite a few RBI and beat us. I was really impressed with your play and glad to see the Cubs drafted you (again). Do you still keep in touch with your former Stanford teammates, like Carlos Quentin? You were struggling to start the season. Did you make any changes as you got hot, or did things just finally click? Keep up the good work, Sam! I'll especially be rooting for you since I was a CF in high school and was an econ major at UCLA. :)
  9. Thanks for taking the time to answer our questions, Grant. How tough was dealing with the hamstring injury in that your pro debut was pushed back? Have you had a difficult time getting used to life as a minor leaguer, or was it not as difficult for you (compared to player straight out of high school) because of your time at Notre Dame? Good luck to you the rest of the way!
  10. Hey Ryan, What do you think is your biggest weakness in hitting and how do you try to improve on it? Nathan Baliva has said you have improved against breaking balls over the course of the season. How have you done that? What was it like to hit that moving bus at the MWL home run derby? Thanks for answering our questions and good luck the rest of the way!
  11. How scary was it getting hit by that line drive, especially so soon after Mark Prior was hit? How were you able to return so quickly, not even missing a start? Is that incident still in the back of your head whenever you go out to pitch, and if it isn't, how do you get past it? Thanks for taking our questions, Matt!
  12. Thanks for the question! That "contest" lasted about two days. It was only a mustache to start with. It was a lot more talk than action. Aaron Smith and Joe Simokaitis started and when no-one else joined them they bailed on it. Smith and Larsen did it earlier in the year for a road trip but that was it. I think they all knew they couldn't compete with my goatee!! And no, Patterson was not involved... THanks for answering my question and I'm glad he wasn't involved! I think Eric would look hot with a beard, but what do I know?
  13. Hopefully he'll be working on his OF defense. I'd like to see him compete for any OF-vacancy next spring with Murton. Since Patterson went to a big-time college program and missed some time due to injury this season, I'm not too shocked to see this. I don't think EPatt will land at WT with a good fall, mainly because the Cubs seem to be moving him up the ranks slowly. Oh, and I fully expect Dope to make the jump to WT despite the subpar season. He'll probably be in the DR Winter League with Licey again. It'll be important for him since he missed half the season with injury and the Cubs seem intent on rushing Felix to the big leagues by next April.
  14. Iowa: RHP Bobby Brownlie (6-5, 4.47 ERA) vs. LHP Bill Pulsipher (4-6, 4.79 ERA) West Tenn: LHP Ryan O'Malley (3-2, 4.68 ERA) Daytona: RHP Randy Wells (8-2, 3.15 ERA) @ RHP Dennis Dove (2-3, 3.43 ERA) Boise: LHP Donald Veal (1-2, 5.06 ERA, 10.2 IP, 9 K, 5 BB) Mesa: LHP Mark Pawelek (0-3, 2.50 ERA, 36 IP, 47 K, 19 BB)
  15. Who wants to see The Farns come in and try to close it out?
  16. i'm telling you, that's not matt lawton. There is no way a player's approach to hitting changes that drastically after one trade. Unless there is some sort of Clockwork Orange visual torture where they make their players associate walks with rape and murder... Lawton has grown cold in the second half before.
  17. True, they're spring training AB's, there's a good chance he hit against some ML stuff too. All I'm saying is the guy can hit, no one argues that. The only arguement is his plate discipline. Will he walk, or will he K too much. Would you take Jeff Francoeur? He has 1 BB (Intentional) in 127 PA vs 24 K. Is it possible that Francoeur is patient enough to work himself into a good count, but then swings at good ones..........and can Pie do the same thing? Not really, in my opinion. Pie's plate discipline is poor at AA (it's worse than Corey Patterson's plate discipline at AA), it would take a bigger hit against pitchers in the big leagues. Also, Felix is still a poor baserunner, and I'm still interested in seeing if he can maintain that power he should for the first 2 months for a full season. Felix needs a full season at AAA, imo. He's not as polished as a guy like Miguel Cabrerra to jump straight from AA at a young age.
  18. The Hill-Wainwright pitching matchup a few days ago was another good pitching duel between Cubs and Cards farmhands.
  19. For a guy who was a 3rd baseman 4 months ago, I was very impressed. He was 90-92 on the QC scoreboard. Im not sure how accurate thier board is but either way 1 or 2 MPH up or down is still good. He had a good curve and good control as well. Probably helped that we were up 14-6 so no pressure which Im sure for Julio and Tom was an ideal situation to bring him into for a 1st outing. im interested to see how he performs back to back or with runners on when he comes in... That leads me to ask - do you know if Alfredo throws anything besides a FB and a curve?
  20. A few starts ago, Ryu was clocked at 95 and 98 in the 3rd or 4th inning (Ron seemed to think the radar was missing a bulb or something was wrong with it). Later in that same inning, he was clocked at 89 mph. I have no clue on the breakdown, but I did spit out my Coke when I heard that 98 mph reading. And I looked something like this: .
  21. And a quick reminder: This Wednesday is the deadline for the Grant Johnson (Regular | Premium), Matt Weber (Regular | Premium), Ryan Harvey (Regular | Premium) and Sam Fuld (Regular | Premium) Q & As. Get your questions in!
  22. Probable Starting Pitchers: Iowa: RHP Jon Leicester (1-7, 5.63) vs. RHP Kevin Jarvis (10-5, 3.45) West Tenn: LHP Renyel Pinto (9-2, 2.34 ERA) Daytona: LHP J.R. Mathes (9-7, 4.28 ERA) Boise: LHP Jesus Yepez (4-0, 2.94 ERA) Mesa: RHP Scott Taylor (0-2, 4.50 ERA, 10 IP) - '05 5th rounder
  23. How did Alfredo Francisco look in his return to the Chiefs? How hard did he throw?
  24. 8 IP, 4H, 12 K, 1 BB...but it is R-ball.
