  1. We get to watch Benson do his best Anthony Thomas impression? Or do we get to see Adrian Peterson play? :|
  2. Pete Carroll was opposed to instant replay coming to the Pac 10 too. Reggie Bush was cleared to play on Saturday but will continue to go light in practice this week. UCLA DT Brigham Harwell was also cleared to play for UCLA in Pullman, despite his sprained ankle. Weather will be a factor in the UCLA game with temps in the 40s and rain (which is a big deal since most of our guys are Californians - 2 years ago, half the team saw snow for the first time in their lives when it snowed during the UCLA-WSU game).
  3. LHP Jarrod Washburn (8-8, 3.20 ERA), who had a throat infection will make his 2005 playoff debut against LHP Mark Buehrle (Regular Season: 16-8, 3.12 ERA; ALCS: 1-0, 5.14 ERA, 7 IP). Game time weather: 62°F, Cloudy/Sprinkles, 30% chance of precipitation. Broadcast note: The game might be on FX in certain areas, especially where the Astros and Cardinals are the regional team. GO ANGELS!
  4. I don't know about that. Hendry is definitely trying his hardest and doing what he thinks is best - obviously many of us don't agree with him. I don't see what help the Sox winning will do. Gotta love the Angels winning despite playing in 3 different stadiums the past 3 days, traveling through 4 different airports, flying approximately 5000 miles and getting 3 hours of sleep last night. :)
  5. Someone may have more details, but I believe it surfaced after the draft that Tim had some arm troubles. He disclosed them prior to contract talks, and the result was a reduced bonus, but Tim could sleep soundly at night. Yes, I believe he actually gave money back, or countered a much higher offer with the 750K. He disclosed after he was drafted, the Padres had him take an MRI and offered him a lower contract to which he agreed.
  6. You don't think Allison has a chance to battle back? Harvey is definitely way behind. :(
  7. Bartolo Colon is off the Angels ALCS roster while Jarod Washburn is on it but still is sick with a throat infection.
  8. How many times do I have to say this? Nobody is saying Michigan is marquee. They are saying the game is a marquee matchup. Nobody is claiming it is THE marquee matchup either, just one of the few. I think you should say it about 500 times. IMO it's not a marque matchup. If you're a Big 10 fan it probably is but it isn't for me. I'm very much interested in the game and I don't care for the Big 10.
  9. IIRC, he was actually drafted as a somewhat light-bat, good defense SS. I had gotten the impression that since he hit for power his senior year, he was considered a much better hitting prospect and no longer just a good defense-kid. Looking at that 2003 first round, that was an impressive draft (link). Wood isn't the only Angels SS prospect in the farm. Eric Aybar is a good looking SS prospect too and was the reason Brandon Wood didn't get promoted to AA this past season. And don't forget they have Jered Weaver. IMB, if both Kotchman and Morales are on the same team, I expect Morales will play LF.
  10. Chances for glory? What glory do they get for being on a list of marquee matchups this weekend in college football? Sorry it's not a Big East matchup. Perhaps Rutgers/Syracuse deserves more glory. It's an undefeated Big Ten team, facing the previous year's conference champion. That's a marquee matchup. A team that has beaten the ever so tough No. Illinois and E. Michigan and lost to about everyone else is marque? I don't think so. While we are talking about the wonderful Big 10/11 let me know how many top 25 teams they have beaten out of conference? It's not that Michigan is a top team but the matchup between them and Penn State is a marquee matchup. And this coming from someone who doesn't care about the Big 10 outside of Northwestern.
  11. UCLA heads up to Pullman to battle Washington State. There better be no letdown game after the Cal win. Oh, and go USC. :shudder:
  12. He should stay at SS, he can hold his own. The one time I saw him, I was impressed with his range. He definitely needs better plate discipline. He was robbed of the BA Minor League Player of the Year.
  13. Washburn and Byrd are free agents, while Escobar is under contract (and will be slated for the rotation again). I don't see why the Angels would trade him.
  14. Check the other AFL thread for audio/video broadcast information on AFL games, including Tuesday's Mesa game.
  15. Some AFL games are broadcasted on radio and video, all have an MLB.com-style Gamecast. Tuesday's (today's) Mesa game will be on audio/video (4 pm ET). Sadly, Angel Guzman is slated to pitch on Wednesday (according to my calculations), and Mesa's game won't be broadcasted that day. Link to AFL audio/video broadcast schedule (w/ links to each broadcast)
  16. A little reading on the top college, high school and even JuCo prospects: linky.
  17. I want the Cubs to take the player they feel is the best at their spot, whether they are HSer or college kid, pitcher or hitter. BPA is the best strategy to drafting. And the Cubs draft BPA, they don't emphasize either HS or college picks. It doesn't help much to draft the BPA if he's a high schooler...he's many times less likely to make it to the big leagues than a player out of college. That's a statistical fact....and even that is assuming the high schooler signs in the first place. BPA is not the best strategy. You have to take into account the probability of a player making it to the bigs. He's more likely to fail as a HSer but also more likely to reach stardom out of HS. As UK always says, you have to select the best available player and trust your minor league development personnel.
  18. Their success with RISP does make up for their other deficincies on offense. The success might not be attainable in future seasons but it is one of the main reasons they have been able to win with a below-average offense.
  19. No to Wagner, but I'd pay that or even a bit more for BJ Ryan over Dempster. Save totals don't tell the whole story. Remember, Alfonseca once racked up 45 in a season. As a closer, Dempster posted a 1.85 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, 8.17 k/9 and .218 BAA to go with his league leading .943 save percentage. There was nothing about Dempster's performance to indicate he will be anything but good. Injuries are really the primary concern. Or a return to control problems that have plagued most of his career.
  20. He's going nowhere. He did hit 4 HRs today in the AFL. In one game.
  21. Pitching and Vlad. GA isn't their second best hitter, Chone Figgins and Bengie Molina have had better seasons.
  22. Angels >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> White Sox > Astros >>>> Cards
  23. Yeah, OC should be batting lower. At least Erstad isn't hitting at the top of the lineup anymore.
  24. RHP Paul Byrd (Regular Season: 12-11, 3.74 ERA, ALDS: 0-0, 9.82 ERA, 3.2 IP) @ RHP Jose Contreras (Regular Season: 15-7, 3.61 ERA, ALDS: 1-0, 2.35 ERA, 7.2 IP) Game time weather: Cloudy, 60°F. GO ANGELS! EDIT: Asterix added to note Doug Eddings sucks.
